It's not the music (well not JUST the music) it's the memories of an era of happiness and celebration that simply doesn't exist anymore. And, I don't even like country. But, that vile soul-less crap out now, makes you a fan of this music.

I grew up listening to the Oaks and can't imagine a life without their wholesome entertainment and music. Saw them in Lancaster, PA one week ago. They looked and sounded fantastic. The new guy is doing a great job that is in Joe Bonsall's spot - wishing the guys and the band much love, health, and success!

A #1 hit for The Oak Ridge Boys on the Country & Western charts. It was the 926th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. My beloved mother saw them several years back at the Newberry (SC) Opera House.

I ain't gonna ride no rail or hitchhike down no highway
I ain't going nowhere feeling the way I do
Because my baby's long gone and nothings going my way
I'm gonna let this muddy water just wash away my blues.
Gonna take a lot of river,
To keep this broken heart afloat,
Gonna take a lot of river
Running all the live long days,
Gonna take the Mississippi, the Monongahela and the Ohio,
Gonna take a lot of river
    To wash these blues away.
Well, I wish I was tug boat pushing and pulling them barges along
Moving on the water with a heart made of iron and steel
There wouldn't be no women that could ever take my loving and do me wrong
I could work all day with nothing in the world to feel.
Gonna take a lot of river
To keep this broken heart afloat
Gonna take a lot of river
Running all the live long days
Gonna take the Mississippi, the Monongahela and the Ohio
Gonna take a lot of river
    To wash these blues away.
    Is she in New Orleans
    Is she a cajun queen
I wonder what she's doing now
But if I know her she's got rings and furs, struggling along somehow.
Gonna take a lot of river
To keep this broken heart afloat
Gonna take a lot of river
Running all the live long days
Gonna take the Mississippi, the Monongahela and the Ohio
Gonna take a lot of river
    To wash these blues away.
Gonna take a lot of river
To keep this broken heart afloat
Gonna take a lot of river

Check out that video camera. You could use it as a boat anchor. Great song!

My guess, everyone had a good time filming this. I need me some Cajun food.

I was never a big country fan, though somehow the 70s and 80s seemed a lot better than these days with just about everyone wrapping their music in the flag in some way.
Country to me, the white man's blues, should be about lost dogs, wives, trucks, trains , and whiskey bottles...
I was drawn to this song for no real reason other than it struck a chord with me and I love hearing it when I think of it!

When I got out of the Navy in 88,a radio station had a contest where whoever could pronounce all the rivers mentioned won a prize. When I called in,they asked how I knew Monongahela and I told them it was because we'd refueled my ship from an oiler by that name and I had to mention the ships name during the "Smoking lamp is out topside while alongside USNS Monongahela"announcements.

Really a good video and a great song sad to see Steve Sanders knowing what his ultimate fate would be. I actually saw him on an episode of gunsmoke the other day he was quite a talented guy RIP
