As of either march or April of 2021 the copyright office added a new category just for albums that allows up to 20 songs per registration PLUS allows album art work to be included. Sounds great, right? Remember in the video the lady warns to make sure you are getting sound recording protection AND lyric and music protection? Well, the new category created gives two choices: Music and lyrics OR sound recordings. Not both in one registration. Be careful that you are properly protected

****Everyone**** Please be aware that the rules have changed, as of March 15, 2019 with regard to registering "Multiple Works". In other words if you are registering more than one song you need to pay close attention, as the Copyright office has changed their procedure and no longer accepts the "Standard Application" for multiple works; instead they are using "Group Of Unpublished Works". If you attempt to register more than one song using the "Standard Application" you will pay $55, and they will only register 1 song. You can use the "Group Of Unpublished Works" to copyright up to 10 songs for that same $55. I know because I made this mistake and the government will not allow you or help you make this correction. I am now out $55.....

So how do I publish Multiple works that have been published already? I was assuming standard because the new option says for unpublished multiple works but my content is already published. Is this maybe the reason every time I attempt to move forward with multiple published work it’s only allowing me to put in one international standard number (isrc) that was confusing me because I have Multiple works so I will need to put in a isrc for each song

That is not correct according to their website. It specifically says you can use the standard application to register 1 collective work and an album of songs is a collective work as per their help pages. It sounds like you did something wrong when you filled in your information. copyright.gov/eco/help-collective-work.html

Yes I have a question: for the author sections; once we put “sound recording” and “other-music and lyrics” do we have to send the audio AND a music sheet (composition) of the song at the end of the copyright process? I don’t know if that makes sense

    Hi everyone, Hi Joyce,
Thank you very much for the information, very helpful,
I will publish my own album, will try to do by myself, to the online platforms such as Spotify, Itunes, UA-cam etc..
I live in London, for Copywriting, I was wondering if I do copywriting US Gov platform, does that protect my work globally or only in US, in that case do I need to do also in The UK as well,
One last question, is there any helpful information about self publishing for the online platforms?
    I would be glad,
    Thank you in advance...
    Denis.

Hi Denis, as far as I know the Berne Convention means that if you register your music copyrights in the US, you're covered in the UK as well but I'm not a lawyer so you might want to ask the US Copyright Office directly.
Here are a couple of posts you'll find helpful about music copyright and self-releasing music to platforms like Spotify:

      @cnlicnli 4 роки тому +1

@@FritzMadness Fritz Madness wrote, “…I’m in Canada I wanna copyright my music to upload it to UA-cam”
If your musical work is being infringed in Canada, then it’s likely being infringed in the US and other in countries.
International copyright holders from Berne Convention signatory countries, including Canada, Germany, France, UK, and Australia, are NOT required to register their creative works (made outside the US) with the US Copyright Office (USCO) to have legal standing to pursue US-based copyright infringers in a United States federal court.
HOWEVER, without a “timely” copyright Certificate of Registration issued from the USCO (i.e., the work was NOT registered BEFORE the infringement occurs in the USA or WITHIN three-months of its first-publication in the US), Americans, Canadians, AND international artists can ONLY pursue actual damages (typically the missed licensing fee) plus the disgorgement of profits (if any!) against American-based infringers. Actual money damages are typically LOW fees, and as a rule, your attorney fees will likely out-strip any money award you receive from a US court or via out of court settlement, making it financially impractical to pursue money damages against US-based copyright infringers without having timely registered your musical works.
Americans, Canadians, and other creatives who “timely” register their works with the USCO (in this instance, either before publication or within five-years of first-publication), receive “presumptive proof” (prima facie evidence) that they have a valid copyright, and the facts stated in their copyright registration application (who’s the copyright author, copyright claimant, year of creation, year of first-publication, etc.) will be deemed valid, unless disproved (17 USC § 410: Registration of claim and issuance of certificate).
Canadians and other copyright music owners who choose NOT to timely register their copyright claims with the USCO (no presumptive proof granted), will have to prove the their creation and copyright ownership before proceeding to trial (timely registering your copyrights with the USCO takes care of that problem).
So, even if you’re out of Canada, you should(!) timely register your music compositions and sound-recordings with the USCO for the point I made. Watch just the first 20-seconds of this copyright attorney litigator video to better understand my points: ua-cam.com/video/cBOKkrleY3Y/v-deo.html.
And you should NOT upload, share, publish, sell, post, or distribute your music to UA-cam or elsewhere until your music has been registered with the USCO. If your works are UN-published, you can register up to ten compositions AND their ten corresponding sound-recordings for US$55 (Group Registration of Unpublished Works): ua-cam.com/video/eR14iSM4esQ/v-deo.html Registering published works can be costly, as you might have to register each work for US$35. If applicable to you, you can also register up to 750 photographs in a single application for US$55 total (not US$55 for each image).
Here’s a great summary on why Canadians and international creatives really need to register their copyrights with the USCO; just change the word “companies” to “creatives”: donahue.com/resources/publications/copyrights-registered-u-s/
