One of the first prayers I learned as a child - Holy Mary, Mother of God, PRAY FOR US SINNERS, NOW AND AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH. Mary is the beloved Mother of Our Savior! We are asking Mary to pray for us to her Son! - as we would ask others to pray to her Son.
Excellent job. (You sound like a student of Scott Hahn.) If I may, I would add something to reinforce the last part of the Hail Mary, “Pray for us sinners now & at the hour of our death”, which helped me a lot apologetically, which is James 5:16:”The prayer of a righteous person has great power in its effect.” Keep up the good work!
I recently learned during the battle of Lepanto the last part "now and at the hour of our deaths" was added. Mary's intercession even at death of the soldiers fighting against the ottoman Turks.
This video is absolutely wonderful. I love how you made it. Can't wait to show it to my kids (13, 12, and 8). You might be my new favorite UA-camr! haha Ave Maria! And great job including the quote from Luther at the end, who was extremely devoted to Our Lady.
There is no friendship, no love, like that of the parent for the child. -- Henry Ward Beecher. Holy Mary IS HIS MOTHER. We can not love him exactly as his mother does. We can not love her exactly as He does. But, she is our Mother, and we can not love her enough. Hail! Full of Grace! Grace upon Grace. MOST Holy. EVER BLESSED. EVER VIRGIN. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. PRAY FOR US, ALWAYS. AMEN.
Beautifully put. Many are hesitant to give her love and honor but I never understood this. She should be give the most love and honor a human being who isn’t God can be!
Think of it this way: no one can love Jesus more than his mother, and Jesus loves his mother way more than any of us. So, how can it be wrong to ask Mary to pray for us when all they both want is to make us into saints?😋
@@mile7981 If this is true (that our Lord can't say no to Mary), it's probably because his will and her will are so united that they're inseparable. Which will happen when one becomes a saint. But, what I think happens sometimes is that when my sin has separated me so much from our Good Lord that he has a hard time 'seeing me,' I can go to Mary to help get me back to the sacraments and the Holy Mass to make things right again with Jesus. Which can happen to some of us who are so stuck in our sin the we need help down to the level of our free will. Have a great day.
With the theme is Mary, but the centre of this pray is Jesus. I proof it with the latin version. "Et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus". Benedictus is male form of benedicere, obviously this passage dedicated solely for Jesus. This passage is the centre of this prayer.
Very true. Mary always serves to direct us to her son. All we are doing by saying this prayer is praising her for being obedient to God and asking her to pray for us to do the same.
@@southernbella8503 yes, all devotion to Mary is always about Jesus. We take principles of Per Mariam Ad Jesum very seriously. And all veneration to Mary not because her own merit, but because our love to her Son, our Redemptor & our King
The Hail Mary is only part of the Rosary and is not just saying prayers but also meditating on major events leading to our salvation. Add the Apostles Creed, Our Father, and Gloria to the Hail Mary and you are immersing yourself into the life of Christ. Each Hail Mary prayed is the gift of a spiritual rose to our heavenly mother, hence Rosary.
Hey, one question. I want to start receiving the Eucharist on the tongue, but i only learned it by hand. Do I stick the tongue out of my mouth or how should i do that? I don't want to embarrass myself XD
That’s awesome! It’s a much more reverent way to receive the Eucharist and protects our Lord’s body from being desecrated when particles of the hosts are strewn all over the church. So, all you do is tip your head back slightly and open your mouth. No need to stick out your tongue. I know it’s kind of scary at first but I promise you, you will feel a difference in how you perceive the Eucharist! Thanks for watching!
My simple explanation is when our loved ones pass away, we often talk to them. Mary and the Saints are no different. We never worship Mary or the Saints. We ask them to continue praying for us.
As a Protestant, I'm not at all upset by the beginning. I recognize it as part of Mary's canticle. I think that's fine. So I have not problem in saying: "Hail Marry, full of grace, […] of thy womb, Jesus", but what follows, I don't quite agree with, in the sense that I would be cautions.
the technical answer is bit more complicated. The origin of the word "worship" is to give proper (not improper) honor to that which is above you in some way. So, for instance, in old English (when the bible was originally translated to English) someone may have called a town official "your worship", but this is not implying anything other than acknowledging the office of the person. Additionally, the word "pray" simply meant to ask or beg. Conclusion is, we can be said to worship saint and pray to them if using the original meaning of the words, however modern protestant ideas have caused these words to appear to only refer to actions reserved for God alone.
The more we draw near to Mary, the more we will learn about her SON. What kind of a mother does not like talking about their son. I had a friend in high school, and the more I talked to my friend’s mother, the more I learned about my friend. We will learn more about Jesus from Mary, because Mary will lead you to her SON!
As a reminder. Holy means saint and is reserved for those set aside…for a purpose. Gods purpose. Mary is definitely holy as see was chosen but God himself to bring forth God the son in the flesh. I don’t care how different denominations argue it. It’s scripture. Denominations do not submit to Gods words…they shape (pervert) Gods words for themselves. My opinions. Full of grace refers to Gods will as sinless again my opinion. People do not understand the power of the language or the FULL meaning of the words Full means COMPETE/fully. Example: we are filled with the Holy Spirit. The past tense of to fill or being filled. It doesn’t not mean full or complete. It could be a drop…it is the act of filling
These are really good points! Sometimes I find it hard to see a lot of protestant objections to the Hail Mary because I’ve just grown up with it and it seems total common sense to me, but I hope I was able to help some feel more comfortable with this beautiful prayer.
Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Obviously, Jesus is not saying he isn’t good but is testing them to see if they believe He is God. Yes, only God is ultimately good but through his grace we are called to be perfect and good as well. Jesus says in Matthew 12:35 “The good man out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.” So Jesus believed men can be good. In the original Greek, I’m guessing the word Jesus uses in Matthew 19 likely has different translations than the word “good” as we understand it (maybe righteous or obedient, both words are used to describe men many times in the Bible), but I’m not 100% on that.
From an Orthodox Christian point of view I can't dispute any of your your message. We abundantly love the most holy Theotokos and we pray for her intersessions. In fact we do use the first half of the prayer (among others) adding at the end of it, "for thou hast bourn the Saviour of our souls!" And certainly there is nothing wrong with the second half. What makes no sense is the rosary which came into being only 500 years ago. Why would the Mother of God wait 1500 years to ask people to pray to her? That makes no sense, especially when she gives all things to her Son.
I’m glad you agree! That’s a complicated question since the history of the rosary is a bit complex, but I’ll have a video on it soonish. But basically the Hail Mary existed before the rosary, but the rosary was originally called the psalter and was a way for the poor people who couldn’t read to pray through psalms along with the literate priests. The rosary was the poor man’s divine office. When Mary appeared to St Dominic, she said “pray my psalter” and connected the practice of reciting the psalter to meditating on the mysteries of Christ’s life. There’s way more to it so stay tuned!!
I agree that Jesus is the one mediator between God and man, but intercessor is not the same thing as mediator. Check out my video on prayer to saints to see my thoughts on this!
Sorry, Rich. There is only one Mediator who could repair Adam’s sin as a man while being holy enough to cross the chasm that separating mere creatures from the divine - that is the Lord Jesus. However, we see in Jn 2 and elsewhere, a person takes a problem to the king, who addresses the matter.

Holy Mary Mother of God Pray for Us Sinners Now is not in the Bible at all but was added to the words of St Gabriel and St Elizabeth by Pope Pius the 5th in 1568 so they are the words of the leader of the RC Church a mere man but truly inspiring to pray and runs well with the words of the hail Mary
Yes, the first half of that prayer is lifted directly from the Bible. The last half isn’t straight from scripture, but still good and its a wonderful thing to ask Jesus’ Mother for her prayers.
Mary wasn't the mother of Jesus. Jesus always referred to Mary by her gender, not by the title of Mother. John 2:4 and John 19:26... Jesus even denounced Mary as his mother...When Jesus was informed that his mother and brethren were waiting outside to speak with him Jesus replied: Who is my Mother and brothers and sisters.? Matt 12:48 Since the real Mary and her husband Joseph had 4 Sons and at least two daughters after Jesus was born. Mark 6:3. and Matt 13:55-56. Don't get mixed up with the Biblical Mary, and the Catholic Mary, they are not the same.
Okay, so you can’t just judge the Bible based on on your own opinions but have to look at it through history. The Bible clearly defines Mary as Jesus’s Mother. The term “woman” didn’t mean she wasn’t His Mother, but he was identifying her with the first woman, Eve, as Mary is the New Eve. He didn’t denounce Mary in John 2:4, but He was merely saying that we have to work with what God gives us and not strive for special honors that are not meant for us (like being Jesus’ Mother). God cares what we do with our lives, not what favors we were granted.
@@southernbella8503 The Bible isn't about personal opinions, you either believe what God is saying and if you don't believe the Bible then you believe in what the devil is saying. Devil. All we know about God is from the Bible. Anything else outside the Bible comes from the devil...I was a Catholic, but not anymore.
Mary is most regularly referred to as Jesus' mother... Matthew 1:18 - "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost." Matthew 2:11 - "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him." Matthew 12:46 - "While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him." Mark 3:31-35 - "There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him." Mark 6:3 - "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon?" Luke 1:43 - Elizabeth refers to Mary as "the mother of my Lord." Luke 2:34-35 - Simeon refers to Mary as the mother of Jesus during His presentation at the temple. Luke 2:48 - "And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us?" John 2:1-5 - Mary is referred to as Jesus' mother at the wedding in Cana. John 19:25-27 - At the crucifixion, Jesus refers to Mary as "woman," and entrusts her care to the disciple John: "Woman, behold your son!" Acts 1:14 - Mary is mentioned as being present with the disciples after Jesus' ascension: "These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren."
I guess where do you draw the line? In my town, on Our Lady of Guadalupe, they closed our street and had a parade. They had a statue of Mary, dressed in costumes, and danced around it. My friends insist they don’t worship Mary, but perception is reality. Also, if Jesus always listens to Mary, then what is the point of asking him? Jesus did say, who is my mother….anyway, I don’t have any issues with holding Mary in a high regard. To each their own
True. There is definitely a line. But things like that are old traditions and usually date back to a plague or drought that was lifted through the intercession of Mary. In that case, Our Lady of Guadalupe’s apparition can be closely linked to the conversion of 9 million pagan Aztecs, so that is definitely something to celebrate. There is great power in the love of a mother, and Mary has great power with Jesus due to her obedience to God and her sacrifice in carrying, raising, and burying him. He has a far deeper, more special relationship with her than He may ever have with us. Not that He doesn’t love us, but everyone knows there’s something special about the relationship of a son and mother. We can and should still DEFINITELY pray directly to Jesus, but never underestimate the power of His Mother. She showed at the Wedding Feast at Cana that her opinion matters and is very important with Our Lord.
"perception is reality"? Wouldn't reality be reality? The reality is that the Catholic Chruch teaches it is a grave sin to treat Mother Mary as a god(dess). So, if your friends are worshiping Mary as a god(dess) then they are contradicting the Catholic Faith.
The issue with the "Hail Mary" Prayer is that it involves Praying To someone who is Not GOD. Prayer to anyone that is not God is wicked idolatry. It is wicked sinfulness to pray to Mary as a mediator because God has said: 1 Timothy 2:5 New King James Version 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
There is a difference between worship (adoration and praise given to God) and intercessory prayer (a prayer asking someone to pray to Gos on your behalf). Worship given to anyone other than God is evil and idolatry. However, intercessory prayer is not only licit but good and we should ask the saints in heaven to pray for us. I discuss this in detail in this video: Why Do Catholics Pray to Saints? A Biblical Defense ua-cam.com/video/sgn60nBYx1o/v-deo.html.
@@southernbella8503 Intercessory Prayer is find and good, but as usual, you are all turned around and all tied up in the wicked traditions of your idolatrous pagan religion. Intercessory Prayer is NOT praying to a non-God person such that the non-God person would relay your prayer request on behalf of another to God. No! Intercessory Prayer is praying to God such that He (God Himself) would hear your prayer directly and then intercede in the life of another. Where in the Bible do you read of Christians praying to people other than God. They would do no such thing because to do such a thing would be to mock God with your fake religion. Stop doing wickedness and start reading the Bible with the faith of a child and God will reveal the wickedness of your religion to you.
Exodus 20 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20 4, one of protestantism's most misunderstood verses. So you don't have any status, carvings, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth? Nevertheless, that is part of the first commandment that protestants change to be the second commandment in order for it to sound more anti catholic. This can be researched, so let me know if you have trouble finding the historical evidence. Furthermore God, then commands a bronze serpent and cherubim to be constructed, so the commandment reads (in context) to have no other gods before Him and no images of these gods.
Hail full of Grace is a Greeting, not a prayer, Luke 1:29 .The Angel Gabriel only greeted Mary he didn't pray to her when he told her Hail full of grace. Praying to Mary is idolatry which breaks the 2nd Commandment of God, as in Exodus 20:4-6 ' You'll find an example of who should only be worshipped in Rev19:10..Read what the angel told John when John went on his knees to worship the angel.in Rev 19:10...The same applies to those who worship Mary. Luke 1:29 doesn't say Hail Mary full of Grace... It says: Hail full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.
lol, goodness gracious. I can’t even begin to attempt to refute these claims because they are just so out of left field. These are wild accusations. Are you a Christian? Hello! Thanks for commenting. A lot of people will quote Luke 11:27 and say Jesus is “downgrading” Mary, but that is not the case. He is merely saying that you do not have to be someone who is as blessed and honored as His Mother to follow Him and be His disciple. Who founded the Catholic church? was it Jesus, or was it Mary? The answer is neither. But the Catholic Church is all about Mary, that's all they talk about, making it obvious that they think that Mary was the one who founded the Catholic Church. Mary said: "From now on every generation shall call me blessed". Luke 1:48...She didn't say: from now on every generation shall call me the mother of God, or the mother of Jesus. Big difference between being called blessed, and being called the mother of God.
So I’m sorry you have that opinion of the Catholic Church, but we do not believe Mary founded the church. Obviously it was Jesus Christ. Just because we honor and love Mary because of her obedience to God in accepting the role of Mother of God doesn’t mean we think she is God.
Yes! The rosary is a beautiful prayer and is an easy way to mediate on Our Lord’s life!
Perfect explanation. Vivat Jesus!
Thank you very much!
@southernbella8503 alright, thank you!
Kneel down, and just open your mouth and tongue out reverently, it’s Jesus your receiving, I’m doing that, no more hands💕🙏
My simple explanation is when our loved ones pass away, we often talk to them. Mary and the Saints are no different. We never worship Mary or the Saints. We ask them to continue praying for us.
Exactly. It’s simple but people over complicate it. Worship and prayer were not the same thing in the Bible, and aren’t now.
The only way God could be offended concerning the Ave Maria is to think He (Jesus, 2nd person) could offended by us praying to His beloved Mother.
Exactly. Jesus is a good Son, and all good sons love it when honor is shown to their mother.
As a Protestant, I'm not at all upset by the beginning. I recognize it as part of Mary's canticle. I think that's fine. So I have not problem in saying:
"Hail Marry, full of grace, […] of thy womb, Jesus", but what follows, I don't quite agree with, in the sense that I would be cautions.
And that’s totally fine! Hesitancy about the last half shouldn’t prevent you from saying that first part and giving Mary the honor she is due!
Absolutely not! We honor blessed Mary and worship our lord Jesus Christ!
Exactly! Thank you for watching!
the technical answer is bit more complicated.
That’s so true! Devotion to Mary is devotion directed to Christ. She NEVER draws people away from her Son but only pulls them closer to Him.
@@southernbella8503 👍
Jesus is our Saviour and we ask Mother Mary to pray for us so that Jesus may forgive us and and answer our prayers
God bless 🙏

Matthew 19:17
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
I love this
I’m glad you enjoyed!
There is only one intercessor ! JESUS !

Why pray to Mary , when you can directly pray to Jesus ?
When we pray to Mary, we ask her to intercede for us to her Son. She always directs us to her Son. Check this video where I explain this question more: Why Do Catholics Pray to Saints? A Biblical Defense
ua-cam.com/video/sgn60nBYx1o/v-deo.html.
Why ask your friends to pray for you, when you can pray directly to Jesus?
Matthew 1:18 - "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost."
Matthew 2:11 - "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him."
Matthew 12:46 - "While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him."
Mark 3:31-35 - "There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him."
Mark 6:3 - "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon?"
Luke 1:43 - Elizabeth refers to Mary as "the mother of my Lord."
Luke 2:34-35 - Simeon refers to Mary as the mother of Jesus during His presentation at the temple.
Luke 2:48 - "And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us?"
John 2:1-5 - Mary is referred to as Jesus' mother at the wedding in Cana.
John 19:25-27 - At the crucifixion, Jesus refers to Mary as "woman," and entrusts her care to the disciple John: "Woman, behold your son!"
Acts 1:14 - Mary is mentioned as being present with the disciples after Jesus' ascension: "These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren."
It is wicked sinfulness to pray to Mary as a mediator because God has said:
1 Timothy 2:5
New King James Version
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
There is a difference between worship (adoration and praise given to God) and intercessory prayer (a prayer asking someone to pray to Gos on your behalf). Worship given to anyone other than God is evil and idolatry. However, intercessory prayer is not only licit but good and we should ask the saints in heaven to pray for us. I discuss this in detail in this video: Why Do Catholics Pray to Saints? A Biblical Defense

Praying to Mary is idolatry which breaks the 2nd Commandment of God, as in Exodus 20:4-6 '
You'll find an example of who should only be worshipped in Rev19:10..Read what the angel told John when John went on his knees to worship the angel.in Rev 19:10...The same applies to those who worship Mary.
1- Have you ever prayed a prayer other than the Our Father prayer? If so, according to your rule (not mine or the bibles) you have prayed and unbiblical man-made prayer.
2- Have you ever prayed and was not in a room alone behind a closed door where only the father can see you? If so you have, according to your rule (not mine or the bibles) gone against scripture.

She is a holy, good woman and we honor her but don’t worship her.
@@southernbella8503 If Mary didn't establish the Catholic church, then what is the fuss about Mary all about.?

Matt 16:18 doesn't say it's the catholic church. It says I will build my church...And I can 100% assure it isn't the Catholic church.
If you can understand what you read then read Revelation Chapter 2. Jesus himself is naming his church. The Church Jesus founded was in the Province of Asia, not in Rome. Rev 1:4
Also, the Church Jesus founded has Seven names Reve 1:11.Seven names and the Catholic church is not one of the Seven names.
If you can understand what you read, then read Revelation 18 and Rev 17. Those prophecies are about the Church we know today as the Catholic church.

lol, we’re not “contacting” the dead for answers. We don’t conjure them up to speak to us and give us information. Prayer to saints is not necromancy, just how asking your family to pray for you isn’t idolatry. We are asking her to pray for us. People in heaven aren’t dead as I explained in the video.
