Sonny has a terrible record with power 5 teams. He said he beat alot of p5 teams at la tech. 2. Illinois who was winless in big10 and virginia had 4 wins. He lost 3.
He only won 5 when at California. Smu was main beat tcu. How many last year. He had 1 great year.

He was 8-5 at Cal in 2015.
Interestingly, he has had a 5-7 season in his 1st or 2nd year at each school as head coach and followed it with a winning season: 8-5 LA Tech; 8-5 Cal; 10-3 SMU.
Having stated that, I'm cautiously optimistic. Our defense had better be not just better, but a _good_ defense. Briles needs to learn how to be consistent or he needs to go away.
