My mother actually has dementia and I'm actually kind of offended that they would so casually throw around a diagnosis of such a horrible disease. I would not wish it on anyone.

Best of luck to you and your mother. My grandmother had dementia and her final days in the hospital were nightmarish for the family, even worse so for her I imagine. And it was a long, sad decline before then.
Hope you have a better experience and that this serious, terrible disease becomes treatable sooner than later.
