Another solid track by Insomnium, love the atmosphere of the song/video and the vocal contrast. Also those acoustic parts are amazing! Riivata top notch as usual with the video, mesmerizing. btw "we are so happy about the sad band" LOL
Ia m ashamed to say i never heard this band until this album was released. This song is probably my favourite of the year so far. The album is fantastic. Its a beautiful journey.
No shame bro, definitely check out their most recent releases. The Winter's Gate album is especially brilliant! It's story based as well! Glad to hear you enjoy them! / george
I think She IS the werewolf, and they're after her.. wait a sec.. Copypasted & translated from all over the internet: A major inspiration for this album was Sudenmorsian [the bride of the wolf or Wolf's Bride] - a novel by the Finnish poet and writer Aino Kallas, published in 1928. It is written in Kallas's archaic, old-fashioned and ballad-like style she used in her works Barbara von Tisenhusen (1923), Reig's Priest (1926) and Sudenmorsian (1928), based on old Hiiumaa and Livonian themes. These ballad-style novels, considered her best works, depict a passionate, unreconciled love that brings happiness and fulfilment but leads to death. The Story of Wolf's Bride tells the story of the beautiful Aalo, who lives in 17th-century Hiiumaa [an isle in Estonia] and is the sensitive wife of a ranger named Priidik. She does chores during the day.. Bored with the ordinary everyday life, Aalo starts to escape into the forest at night in search of her true self. She begins to consort with wolves and sometimes turns into a wolf herself (the transformation into a werewolf happens by the influence of the Forest Spirit, Diabolus Sylvarum.) The villagers find out about Aalo's nocturnal excursions, and she is sentenced to death and burned at the stake. BUT. They wrote a new novel from that inspiration, where the wolf escapes to finnish forests, and survives there. (About this novel I don't know excact facts, I hope someone who does, helps out)
Holy shit that's amazing. It's really annoying that I didn't properly get to study the Lore of this album but that synthesis gives a really good overview and makes the Wolf theme and Witch Hunter theme come together really well. Thank you! /Andrei
@@thewindmillfullovcorpses a bit more: "With Anno 1696 [the album where this is from], Insomnium takes us into a world of sadness and the last crumbling remnants of hope, anger and morbid lullabies. This is a time of unrest" and horrible famine. "The witch-hunt is in full swing across Europe and horrific witch trials have even reached the remote and majestic landscapes of Finland and Sweden. Welcome to 1696. Welcome to hell."
Good stuff. If you're into Insomnium veering towards black metal, you have to check out Belzebubs. The track "Cathedrals of Mourning" is a good start, and has an awesome animated music video as a bonus. The actual identities of the musicians behind Belzebubs has never been made public, but it's pretty obvious that at least some Insomnium band members are involved. Hope to see you react to it soon! \m/
Hey man, thanks so much for commenting. Sorry to disappoint you buy we heard the full album from Belzebubs already! I'm with you I can totally hear the Niilo in the vocals! Maybe we react when they put out new stuff! Cheers! / George
I don't know anything about the filming of the music video, but I'm making it my head-canon that the wolf is a half-wolf or less, and the dogs that got released to chase it just wanted to play with their new friend. The sharp contrast in the transitions really shook me in this. Normally I would complain, but the overall sound is very pretty, so I shall not.
Very happy to notice your absence of complaints! Truthfully I don't mind sudden transitions and Insomnium have some killer ones. Definitely with you on the video though, how else are you gonna get dogs chasing in a safe way hehe / George
The sad band = best band. Everything they make, I absolutely adore (seeing them live last month was amazing).
Yooo so awesome you got to see them live! /Andrei

I mean how else are you gonna feel about a sad band? Sad? naaah that makes no sense! / George
Free merch is awesome! Love watching you two!
Thanks a million! It is awesome indeed! / George
@@thewindmillfullovcorpses I love the contrast of the lovely Johanna's voice against the rest of the song! And I wish you more free merch!
That's one hell of a great song! 😲🤯
btw. "being involved" with Tuomas is a neat description for being married to him 😉
They lack critical information, lol.
I mean hey, you can't get more involved than that right?! / George
