I love to see and hear the rain. The pond is incredible! I looked at it last night in another video and just shook my head ,and said to myself “a pond in the desert “
I'm 78 and in Switzerland and have watched all your videos John. That said I don't think I will be doing anything similar myself, at least not in this life. :-) PS I'm also John.
You have a smart water system which we all can learn from. You can last a long time off of it. Imagine if those of us not in the desert harvested water like this...
Wow I can't believe what you've done. You are a very smart, resourceful man. I hope that you are saved by JESUS and are looking forward to the rapture. Good job on your homestead. Wow, I'm jealous.
I am thankful I sold a few of my cruiser bikes that were just sitting, the single investment in large tanks, the storms filled ALL of them up, with just rv port we use for shade for tinyhouse, the side parking my sons built with slab and ibeams, even with panels on top of the metal roofs, all the rain, the investment into the gutters were a wise one! Can build a new deck next summer hahaha. So happy everyone is blessed with water!!!
Hello John, clad all is well really look forward to your content. You're doing so good on your homestead God Bless you and your animals enjoy seeing your dogs and Annie the cat.
Yea, unless it's funky at all in Golden. hey, The road was fixed and I got more packages today. I'll post a video soon. Thank you so much! It feels good to have a birthday all the way out here.
Excellent video ! I'm doing about the same except I'm digging permacuture to harvest and redirect the ground water. Eventually it will end up in the pond and overflow into the pasture. My son gave me a 20'x40' swimming pool liner and I'm still digging the pond to use it. Glad to see you're doing great and keep these videos coming. Charlie
Maybe make a diverter to send water from the gutter out to the pond, bypassing the underground tank. The bilge pumps will take a lot of power and will be slow, much slower than a rainstorm.
I've never gotten more rain than this in two years and last year was supposed to be the worst monsoon in ten years. I should be able to place the switch low enough that there's room for 600 gallons and if there's rain in the forecast I can manually move it.
What a great video!! Excellent content in my opinion. I've always wondered how the geothermal and root cellar hold up during the crazy monsoons taking place right now. I assumed they would be getting some water and feared they would be flooding. Im glad to see there's no seepage issues for you. I really wish i was able to collect all this great rain water but I'll be catching it all by next years monsoon. Let's hope for another good year of rain for 2023 as well. Congrats on the water storage success!
There's a little bit running in because I haven't been able to patch the hole in the top but I will soon. Nothing to worry about. By building a berm around the perimeter you can prevent most issues.
I have been looking for some property I'm not sure where the best and inexpensive places to buy are I have seen just about everywhere on line but I can only put a down payment then make payments. All I keep getting is dead end scammers so it's turning me off on the whole ordeal I'm retired but still have the strength to do a lot of things.thanks for your video looks like you were hit with a good amount of rain take care.

Really enjoyed the video, thanks. I live 'down the street' (Tucson) and am watching closely to see how your pond works out. I'd like to put one on our land and I like how you've created yours. You give many great tips and ideas, again thanks.

Hey John, how much rain have you been getting? I assume you have a rain gauge up. We got around 1.4" a few days ago south of Phoenix in one of the showers. The way it looked like it was coming down at your place it must have been at least an inch or two in that shower!
is it possible for you build a sand bag house on the property? i live in saskatchewan. there is a 150 year old sod house someone lived in it up till recently. what building material did indigenous people use in your area ?
When I had the county out to inspect my compost toilet system, I showed him around. He had nothing negative to say. Besides, water tanks supported directly on grade less than 5000 gallons do not require permit.
I'm not sure what you're referring to. I use several pumps. They run on my solar so it's not an issue. My shower needs high pressure and so do the pumps that move water. Thanks for the comment
@@FrugalOffGrid yeah it is high maintenance comparable to a PVC pipe placed in the underground water reserve and make it to extract that water to the surface water reserve because it seems to me it will be higher and the water will flow without pump i hope this make it clear now
@@FrugalOffGrid at some point you said you want to use pumps to stop the underground water reserve from Flooding why not just put PVC pipe to make the extra water to flow to another reserve
Simply placing a pipe into the underground cistern would not pull water up and out then over to the pond. It will require a lot of work and equipment I don't currently have. It's easy to dream up projects and another thing to be able to put them into place today.

The roof water is stored in cisterns. The swales more than full the pond.
