  • Take a detailed look at these eMTB specific tires designed and developed by Schwalbe.
    A couple months back Schwalbe sponsored our 2020 eMTB Roundup in an effort to ensure all our test bikes had the same platform to truly compare the bikes to each other. We instantly fell in love with the Eddy Current eMTB tires and wanted to do a deep dive feature on them.

    Just ordered a pair of these because of your (and Sam’s bikes) review. I am a fan of Hans Dampf, I have 1200 miles on the tires with no flats though I am getting some significant wear on the rear. SoCal rider so riding the same trails.

      Right on Trevyn, Thanks also for the recent order. We greatly appreciate your support and are sure you are gonna dig these tires. We loved them in the 20-24 PSI range depending on your terrain that should work well.

    Thanks for the review guys, love the content as always. Are you guys planning on doing an Ebike tire shootout in the near future? I may have to throw a set of these on my Rail here shortly. if they work in Palm Springs , they should work really well in the loose and dry Kern river valley.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 роки тому +1

      They would absolutely kill it in Kern. We will be working on an eMTB wheel and tire roundup in the near future, but we can say, these are the best eMTB tires we've ridden yet. Honestly may be some of the best tires, period.

    Running the eddy current on the front of my canyon spectral ON tried 2.8 on the rear just found to have alot rolling resistance/draggy went back to using Hans dampf 2.6 SG on the rear faster rolling and also better in wet and muddy conditions.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the input. We didn't run any 2.8" tires as we prefer 2.6 for less drag and more precise handling. Thanks for sharing though.

    Got Soft' compound.
    Was flexing & rolling over/squirmy at 18psi
    Went up to 22psi
    Wayy better.

    Anxious to hear how they do in the softer stuff. I’m running a new Michelin wild E in 27.5x2.8 and it’s been excellent so far. You mentioned you started at 22/28 but worked down without issues and wondering where you ended up?

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 роки тому

      It depended on the rider's speed and riding style. Most of the quicker/aggressive guys liked the 21-22psi front and 23-25 rear. Our newer, less advanced riders enjoyed pressures in the high teens.

    Hey guys, another great video with even better information. Seeing how demanding and punishing E-Bikes can be on tires it's good to see E-Bike specific sets finally coming to the market. Currently rocking the Assegai/Agressor combo from Maxxis and been happy, but wanted to get your thoughts or any comparisons on how well these performed when compared to some of the more popular choices out there as Maxxis. I've never ran Schwalbe so would the equivalent be that of an Exo casing/Double Down and MaxGrip/Maxterra compounds? Lastly, likely hard to say as they weren't ran in such a fashion, but do you believe a cushcore would round up the setup or believe the tires are burly enough to handle anything SoCal has to throw at them on their own?
    Again, keep the E-Bike specific content coming and hope everybody stays safe! Cheers!

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Miguel,
      Thanks a lot for the awesome feedback and question. We just reviewed the Assegai and love that tire, although it is very slow rolling. We rode them on an ebike as well, I believe it was the Norco Range VLT that comes spec'd with those.
      These tires offer an all around better ride in terms of compliance and support. The Assegais GRIP! but these grip and roll and absorb.
      As a SoCal native, and having tested these for 10 days under 10 riders of varying line choices and skill levels, we were actually blown away that nobody flatted or punctured the whole trip. I'm pretty confident that for myself (Drew speaking) I would not add inserts to these tires. Maybe if you live in Santa Barbara and you're a hard charger who loves gapping stuff, or you love low PSI, I would consider an insert, but Mynesweepers are cheaper and lighter, so I'd maybe run that route if i needed to.
      Overall though, I think Schwalbe did a great job developing these tires for the demands of ebikes and ebike riders.

      Make sure the beads are squeezed in to the inner/larger rim area. This allows the tyre to move over to where the lever is.

    Did you run the front tire on,both the front and back wheel set up? And did you try the rear tire as bith the frint snd back wheel set up?

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 роки тому +2

      No we did not. The front could probably do decent on front and back, but we'd suspect the rear tire would only be decent as a front for VERY specific riding styles/terrains. Ultimately Schwalbe did a lot of research to make this tire a front and back combo for a reason, so because of that we believe they perform best as they designed them.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 місяці тому +1

      Depends on a lot of variables from rider weight, bike weight, terrain and skill level.
      But we typically run 22-24PSI front and 25-27 rear.

    • @product8498
      @product8498 4 роки тому

      The Michelin Ebike tyres are not that great, neither fast rolling or high grip. With a Ebike might as well use the biggest grippiest tyres possible. The Eddy Currents are a very good Ebike option.

    Most variations of today's mtb tires are just splitting hairs unless of course you have thick hair.
    Seriously the only real drastic improvement i ever noticed was when i went from semi slicks to
    specialized Ground Control tires back in the eighties or when ever it was they came out .

    indestructable for sure but the rolling resistance is just way to bad imo. i sold them after one tour. i wish you would have covered this up in your vid. you didnt and because of that it feels more like a schwalbe marketing video. feels bad.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  4 роки тому +5

      Thanks for the input Soren. The tires, mostly the front, do have a slighlty higher rolling resistance than some tires, however we didn't really find them to be extremely SLOW, say like the Maxxis Assegai for example. Are there faster rolling tires? Yes, but we wouldn't say these are a drag by any means. We don't know what type of riding you do, but if touring is your thing, then a softer/grippier rubber may not be needed for pavement or fire roads where a harder compound with tighter spaced and ramped knobs will help you. But that does bring up a good point which we didn't address! Thank you. These tires are for riders looking for grip, traction and performance from their ebikes, not a commuter or long distance touring tire. Thanks for reaching out.

      @@TheLoamWolf I have 29x2.6 Magic Mary's front & rear on a Focus eMTB running 22psi. Not had any experience with other tyres on an eMTB but i don't find these tyres slow. Most times rolling (no peddling), on dirt or sealed, i roll faster than other bikes with other tyre brands (which may just roll slower) so i have no issues. I have a Schwalbe Hans Dampf 29x2.6 SpeedGrip rear to fit soon so i may notice a difference but it would have to be a huge improvement for me to even notice or care.
