    Thanks for another great video Daniel. I have come to the same conclusion even before I saw this video. It is usually NOT worth ha ding your coin(s) graded unless they are very rare, in really great condition, or highly valuable according to the gray sheet or a coin dealers opinion. I think I have 2 coins (out of many) that COULD be worth having graded, but I am still thinking on it and I am not in a hurry. My advice to anyone would be to really study the coin, get others opinions and be a sure as you can that it will be worth it. Again, $40 or more just for the grading, then there's shipping and all that on top of whatever time and money you already have in the coin.

    Good advice from Daniel. Collectors should also know that third party grading is very 'subjective'. And, when it comes to older key dates, many will likely be called cleaned or questionable color.
    Another call could be altered surfaces. I've seen numerous coins both clearly undergraded as well as overgraded. I've seen coins in problem holders that don't appear to have a problem, and coins graded with no problems that obviously have problems. Third party grading is not absolute. It's subject to human 'opinion' and human error. Sometimes coins have to be submitted multiple times to receive the desired grade. And, sometimes the desired grade just never happens.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 років тому +3

      It seems that key dates will mostly be problem coins but with low mintages and the fact that the best are already encapsulated (save for new discoveries), then it stands to reason what we see now is "rejects". I know some dealers crack problems coins out and sell as raw. I don't condone this but some coins are mislabeled as cleaned when they're not. I know because I have resubmitted cleaned coins and received a problem free grade and visa versa.

  • @silversurfer1986

    Ya good question and response. I typically won't send in a coin unless I'm certain that the grade it'll receive will make the coin worth more than what I paid for the coin including grading fees. The only caveat I'll say to this is that some people enjoy their collection in slabs. If it's for your own personal collection without regard to liquidation in the future then have at it. Also, some people have collections on PCGS and NGC registries and thus if they bought a coin say in NGC but have a PCGS registry, they may send it in to have it re-graded by PCGS so they can add it to their registry set. I used to buy raw coins however, I enjoy the comfort now of knowing it's relative grade, authentication, and having 3 "experts" deem the coin not to be cleaned/QT etc. I also think it's just a smarter move to buy the coin graded now days. They liquidate better and for more in the market place. Good video keep it up!

I have been to coin shops when in fact they have tried to take a certain coin to the back room to clean !!! Stating he worked for one of the main coin grading sites for many years that I will not name saying that this cleaning can not be detected . Is there a grading company I can take these binders to and sit with someone and get a recommendation on which ones to grade . I have spent many many hours going through coins and I know of some that should be graded such as 1909 s vdb, 1864 L on ribbon . 1969 full steps .
    Many more . Where I struggle with is there are so many where to begin and would like to sit with someone and get there recommendation on which ones to send in and someone I trust ???

    I think to some extent you should know about grading. For instance differentiating a coin that is fair, good, very good, extra fine, almost uncirculated, brilliant uncirculated and mint state. However is it really important to know what distinguishes a Ms 65 say from Ms 70? What makes the professional coin grader an expert who assigns one grade to a coin in mint state from another professional coin grader who assigns another grade in mint state to the same coin? Who do you go with if both are experts but come to different conclusions? Could experts be wrong?

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 років тому

      Yes and no. It depends on how you define wrong. It could be you're wrong and the grader was correct. So it is subjective. However, based on studying all these graded coins for a couple of decades I am seeing a lot of inconsistencies.

      What do you mean? They tend to grade in the PR63 to PR65 the further back you go but 1955 an back are worth sending the Franklin. Just depends on the year and how spotted they're.

    Hey Daniel, I had a question about dealing with local coin shops? I feel like they are trying to rip me off. Maybe Im wrong, but I rather ask you, since I dont believe you would steer me wrong. I went into a coin shop and asked how much they would give me for a 1 oz. 2021 type 2 gold eagle in BU condition. The first guy told me he would only offer 1750, (at the time spot price was $1789 according to my KITCO app) I felt insulted because it was below spot price, and he got upset saying i would not find a better price. The second shop told me, that they would only offer $1746, because its hard to find a buyer for a 1 ounce gold eagle in Memphis Tennessee.( My eyes rolled when he said that because i knew he was lying) I understand people need to make a living and have to make money. but I totally felt like they were trying to cheat me. Is this typical among coin shops to offer below spot price for a BU 1 oz gold eagle type 2 2021?

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  2 роки тому +1

      It is typical. I have some modern gold I paid up for and I can't sell it, now gold dropped on me. I usually pay spot but most shops do not unless it's a hot item. 2021 coins are not doing well.

    Just watched a video called "Jacks Coin Snacks." Another shooter selling high priced coins. On to the story. He had the vice president of NGC on. I cannot recall the gentlemans name. It was a forum where you could ask questions. I asked one question. Well I asked it more then once lol. Does the large companies like Heritage and Stacks and Bowers get preferred treatment over the common collector? He gave no answer but kept talking about the common collector while he was sitting in this beautiful office. He is so out of touch with reality. I am sticking to ANACS they truly know the everyday collector. If I take a little hit so be it. This pompous man I wouldn't let grade a baseball card stuck in the spokes of my bike. This company is about profit not about the true hard working numismatist. Enough said.
