    Well, I've just bought an Evolution Rage 5S and Russell, I must say that your assembly guide is the best on UA-cam. Easy to follow and your explaining of where each nut, bolt fastener goes was priceless! Thank you ever so much.

    Very helpful, thank you.
    A couple of suggestions to make things easier.
    1. Put the plastic end plugs/bungs in boiling water and push them in hot. You won't need a hammer.
    2. Don't fully tighten any bolts until the whole base is assembled. The play in the system makes assembly much easier.

      Thank you for taking the time to comment Simon. Brilliant idea regarding the plugs as they were difficult to get in. Leaving all of the bolts slack makes a lot of sense too. :-)

      Wish I’d seen this first, was following the evolution video and the last bolt and spacer on the leg assembly was extremely difficult to locate once everything else was assembled, I ended up taking out the bolt attaching the end of the outer piece to the table again just to get enough play to locate it all.

    Russell, thank you for a very informative video.
    I have just taken delivery of this table saw and I can honestly say I would have really struggled to put it it together if I was relying on the instructions alone.
    Your video was exactly what I needed to help me. Thanks again!!

    A massive thank you for this video. Extremely useful I basically threw away the instruction manual as it wasn’t great and followed this step by step. I seriously don’t think I’d have gotten mine all set up in twice the time if it wasn’t for your video. Thank you 👍👍

    Cheers Russell. Assembled my saw today with the aid of your video and had no problems at all. Think I would have struggled if I'd had to rely on the instructions that came with it. The only thing I did differently, having pre-watched your video beforehand, was I used the four "spare" washes on the first four bolts fitted, primarily to help spread the load and avoid crushing the tube, as you mentioned, but also because these were really the only bolts the washers would fit on. Even the official Evolution assemble video doesn't use these washes, even though they still list them in the parts. All very strange! Your video certainly made a tricky job much easier. Many thanks.

    Tank you for this detailled instruction. It helped a lot for my device.
    The washers left over were provided in order to put them under the heads of the very first 4 screws being used at assembly. They prevent the plastic material to wear out during usage.

    Thank you Russell, so pleased to have discovered your video. I was struggling to read the paper manual with my glasses on, then lost my glasses whilst assembling Grrrr!!. Your video was so informative, concise and easy to understand. No unnecessary rambling blurb like so many videos. My only difficulty was not having wifi in my workshop so was running up and down to the house for each move and then trying to remember it. However, found I could download onto my phone, which made life easier. As an extra, I found the Evolution box made a very good assembly table. Many thanks for helping me!!

    The four black washers that were left over appear to be for the first two parts attached to the table ( the handles). Figure 2 in the assembly guide omits to show the washers, which is why they were left over at the end of the build.
    Thanks for the video, it was an enormous help in assembling my table saw as the manufacturer’s guide was woefully sparse and inaccurate.

    Good clear video. This is the 2nd one that I've built up in 4 days.
    I bought mine on Amazon Prime day with 30% off. I'd been going to get one for months and I couldn't resist the deal.
    The right box arrived but with a 110V saw inside. Amazon, to be fair delivered another one within a couple of days.
    I won't tell you where the black washers go, as someone else has already told you.
    Even after already assembling one, I still referred to your guide to build my second, which unlike some others, stressed the difficulties in threading some bolts through holes.
    The first did have play in the mitre track, but my second is rock solid, with no play at all.

    After seeing your review and others, picked up one of these today. Managed to get the base together after much cursing and swearing at the last 2 spacers, only to find I had the U-shaped bit on the wrong way (as you mentioned, manual doesn't show which way to put it). Thankfully it didn't take as long the second time. Interesting problem I had though is the holes for big bolt that holds the wheels seem to be different diameters and I had to install the bolts reversed. I'll probably ream it out a bit and do them the right way around later. I've also found a broken off plastic tab when unpacking, but I can find where its broken from! Also found the spring that holds the latch comes out with the slightest touch, probably going to need a dab of adhesive.

      Hello again Russell, does your machines blade spindle have some play in it? This causes it to slap when starting it up. I don't know if it's a fault or not. It certainly starts with a jolt!

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  4 роки тому

      My blade has free movement forward and backwards when the saw is unplugged. It can be pushed/pulled around 8mm before resistance is felt. This is normal. The motor is not an induction motor, so it starts violently and this can be a little unnerving until you get used to it. There is no sideways play on my blade. If it is cutting alright then I would not worry.

      It was fitted as standard when I made the video Mike. I have had other comments about it being removed by Evolution. I used this video instead of the manual and got it built fairly easily. However, it looks like the video has been edited slightly as on certain areas when connecting the frame you just get it done but could I get my holes to line up that easily? No way, took me ages to get the frame together. On the whole though, a good video and very helpful, thank you.

      I don't use mine, I prefer to measure the old fashioned way! The zero can be adjusted on the fence. :-)

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  4 роки тому

      @@bigdave6591 I find the table saw fine to use. I took this saw on my boat and did some cabinet work when I first got it. It would have been much harder with a machine without wheels or without a stand and I had no issues using it on a boat. You need to adjust the front feet to ensure that they are frimly located on the ground. I would not try to cut large sheet material with this saw, but that goes for any portable table saw. Ensure you have tightened the frame bolts sufficiently too. :-)

    Thanks again russel for taking the time to make this video, it has helped me alot just like the sliding compound mitre saw setup video you've done in the past, cheers!
    Couple of questions:
    - Do you know if its possible to add an Anti-Kickback Pawl to this table saw?
    - Do you know if its possible to add stacked dado cutter blades instead of the default blade?

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  5 років тому

      Thank you Alex. It would be possible to add the anti-kickback pawl, but you would have to drill a hole through the riving knife. It is not possible to fit stacked dado blades. :-)

      You are right to be worried about the table saw, they are very dangerous if not used correctly and being wary of them is far safer than growing complacent. I have been on the receiving end of a kickback about 15 years ago when I tried to cut a piece of plywood freehand and had no riving knife fitted to my saw. It threw the plywood back at me and hit me in the stomach. Felt like I had been kicked by a horse and left a huge bruise. If you have the riving knife and guard fitted you should be fine. The knife stops the wood contacting the rear of the blade and the guard will prevent the wood lifting up. Always use the fence or mitre gauge, NEVER cut freehand! :-)

    Thanks for posting your experiences, it helped me a lot.... I got the macine yesterday.. assembly took me one hour, thanks to the vids of you and ua-cam.com/video/22ieVD8fwGU/v-deo.html. I see the struggle of Russell Platten, but really i had it so much easier. The advantage of this post is, that because Russell is very detailed and takes his time, he is very clear and warns us for the pittfalls. My advice: try to do it with the mentioned vid, and if you need more, switch back to Russell he takes more time and many people will need that. The manual, sorry to say, is the weakest feature of the machine. There are people in the internet critisizing this machine... i would say... they are worse then the dutch and i can know...i am dutch.... the dutch invented cupper wiring fighting for a cent...if you critisize this beautiful machine for little under 400 euro you are crazy. Only the fence and the slider part of the table are so unique and of such a high quality that none of the 'great brands' deliver that. I only saw this on machines triple this price. The first one in the higher price range with a comparable fence is Bosch blue... but lacks the slider and the extensions, though to be honest has an extension in the back, that if available would make the evolution complete... There are vids on youtube though that solve this omission.
    The absolutley smooth operation of folding in the thing.... it is a technical masturbation. everything is so well overthought so of a much higher level than the price would make you expect. I saw one guy in youtube badmouthing the accuracy of the fences... i would say... what did you drink to make you pee vinigar.... you can fully adjust every readouts and adjustments, my saw, that came out of a slightly damaged box, was at absolute right angles. . Your critisism is a disqualification for you, not the machine! For me..its the best price performance ratio
    i experienced in years! Am extremely content with this (r)evolution in toolary.

      Thanks for the reply Russell I bought the saw for use in France where I live so like a fool I didn't check the contents of the box. Luckily I have lots of bolts and nuts and put it together but Evolution should look at their suppliers. As for the saw it is perfect for my occasional use. I must say putting it together was a bind instructions rubbish. All in all happy with the saw. Love your vids JIM

      +James Hodgkinson Cheers Jim, I’m glad you had everything you needed to put It together. I think it is a fine saw and have used it more than my cabinet makers saw since I got it. I have been using it on my Boat and the fact that it is so portable is a major plus for me.

      I bought the saw to build a Ron Paulk table which I have re designed to incorporate this table and a cheap router table which when I have sorted it will be good.. The reason,
      I am fed up struggling in my garage. I also can't stand buying things when I can make them better. I also built a canal barge this improved my carpentry skills as I only had the basic of equipment. Once a builder always a builder.

      Forgot to say I owe my passion for my tools to my lovely dad who passed away over the last few weeks he taught me to go for it. I miss our chats he would have been very interested in my new saw. His shed has yet to be sorted he went blind but never stopped building. I can only say i am broken hearted I miss our chats sharing a bottle of beer Wednesdays will never be the same.
