I've been in the market for a "set and forget" type of printer recently and I think this solidifies my decision to get a CORE One. I'm confident Prusa can address many of the issues you caught in your review with firmware or slicer updates, and their after-sales support and product longevity is just unmatched. Plus with the recent Bambu Lab stuff... yeah. Have you tried removing the chamber door for PLA prints? That might lower the chamber temperature enough to print overhangs as nicely as MK4S. I remember Prusa was showing off how you could swap the side the door was on, so you should be able to remove it entirely.
Hi Stefan! I have great news: the server-grade fans actually run at 40% max, as we’ve matched the cooling performance internally to the MK4S while keeping the printer quiet. I’m sorry your cooling didn’t match the other printers, but we have 60% headroom now. You can reach full performance manually via the tune menu, and I’d love to hear your values so we can fine-tune for everyone 💨
In a future version maybe have an intake fan as well or allow the exhaust fan to be controlled to spin both directions so when you needed additional cool air it can pull it in instead of removing it.
Most people don't really care so much about the Bambu changes. They aren't as drastic as all the enthusiasts are screaming about. The Bambu is still what I'm recommending to people. It's still cheaper than this and just as good, if not better. This is still slower, still more expensive. Sure, it's a way better option for Prusa fans, but for the average person who doesn't understand why they would care, they're going to continue picking Bambu.

@kwinzman thats a tough question. It will also depend on multicolor usage and preference of footprint. Mmu still needs to be tuned for core one to be less space hungry. I will go for core one. But it is up to everyone.
My mini got this feature with a recent firmware update. I was over the moon. Or if interest It's actually dependent on the additional object notation in the gcode (i.e. requires up to date slicer)
For me the most important thing is I'm investing in "Made in Europe" instead of "Made in China". Prusa even solders their own PCBs for example. If you take that into account they're still incredibly affordable. We have a whole lot more regulations here which Chinese companies simply don't need to obey to. My mk3 is still running very well despite being over 6 years old and literally never had any printing issues that needed intervention.

Coming from an Ender 5+ and transitioning to Bambu Lab X1Cs, I’ve always heard great things about Prusa and have a lot of respect for both their culture and products. I truly enjoy my Bambu X1Cs and will likely stick with them because of the ecosystem, but I completely agree-competition is a good thing, and having multiple great companies producing excellent machines benefits everyone. Keep up the great work with CNC, and hats off to Prusa as well! 👏🙏
I have owned the entire Prusa FDM printer family for about 10 years now, having bought some printers on presale and some years after release. I can only give everyone this advice: don't you ever buy a Prusa printer on day one! Give them a few months to iron out firmware and hardware flaws! I bought my Prusa XL 5TH + enclosure two months ago (thus, over a year after release), and man, it was a pleasure to assemble, and it runs well-contrary to what the early reviews said. On the other hand, I bought the MK4 on presale, and it took them one year and an S-iteration to get it finished (mostly). Because Prusa has been supporting its printers for years with update/upgrade options to newer models, you will not run into a buy of an end-of-life product that easy.
Correct. Our 7 year old Mk3s became MK3S, then MK4 and now will soon become Core Ones. Upgrades allowed us to keep components serviced to new ( bearings etc... ). I don't know any other company that offers this. Invaluable.

So, you spent $1070 to turn one printer into another, when you could have bought an entirely new CORE One without even needing to sell your old printer?
You can order on the day two, because there will be always so many preorders that it will take few weeks or months to get your printer. And at that time it will be already perfect.
@@biomech8 🤪 Yeah... sort of... I spoke with Prusa support today because my XL shows a recently discovered issue with the main cable assembly. That is also a nice thing you buy with the extended costs of a Prusa printer compared to a cheap Chinese one: the support didn't have a single problem sending me the replacement parts. I just had to fill out a short form where they track this issue. I also got some additional advice on narrowing the root cause, and I shall return to them if the problem returns for further assistance and replacement parts.
@@jamiemacdonald436 yeah - Stefan commented that are using PC-Blend for the printed parts, but I wish he had spoken more about what a pain it is for "pre-assembled" XL and Mk4 printers to come with PETG parts, when Prusa knows many of them will be put into enclosures. There was no reason to make them with PETG from the start. It also means if you buy a pre-assembled XL like I did, you are forced to do a lot of disassembly to replace the sub-par PETG parts. Then why did I pay for the assembly fee if I am stuck doing it myself?
@@falxonPSN I was thinking why they did petg over the years. Honestly I think one reason is to show you can print your own parts if you want. Notably all the parts are available on printables. People rarely do, as prusa is meant to be the original ready to go printer Vs DIY or modders heaven. But I feel the concept of not having to print with an enclosure is part of where they came from.
I'm so tempted to buy one but the build volume is too small for my projects. I would get the xl but it's just too expensive for me. I hope Prusa can eventually scale their operation to the point where we can see better prices in the US. I really love the quality in their machines and would love to own one eventually down the line.
My mark 3 is still doing well thanks to constant free software updates . I m sure anyone buying the Core One will similarly be happily printing with it for many years to come.
The MK3, now MK3S+, just got updated to firmware 3.14.1 a few months back. PrusaSlicer updates have made the MK3 so much more capable, but that's not exclusive to Prusa machines.
Still using my upgraded to Prusa Mk2.5s. Their support is great, had an issue, opened a ticket and they helped me diagnose, 9 years after purchase. If only they had released this last year, I wouldn't have moved on to a Voron with my latest printer.
This video sums everything up! I do not own a Prusa printer myself, but I like the allover concept of Prusa. Easy maintenance and expansion / update options that you can't find elsewhere. In my opinion the price is absolutely fine for what you get. It is important to have and keep such great manufacturers in Europe, and I'm also thinking of some filament manufacturers here.
Thank you for the great review. Up to this point was Bambu Lab X1 but did not like a lot of the baggage attached. This is now a viable alternative. I don't mind paying more for the peace of mind that comes with dealing with a known trusted entity!
The average user doesnt print abrasives though and brass has better thermal conductivity than hardened steel nozles. Tungsten and other materials are options but that'd drive the price up another bump when people are already complaining about the price.
I was hoping for "remarkable" print quality. Given the fanfare around the new ducting for the fan, cleaner overhangs was clearly marketed in the early promotional material. Both of the comprehensive reviews said there were a few quality concerns. My A1 broke so I can't say it was a high quality unit but the print quality was astonishing. I'm going to press the pause button until there is a lot of feedback.
Great to see Prusa delivered another great product! It nearly convinces me to make the switch from MK3 to the CORE. But since my MK3 still works flawlessly after a few years of use I guess I'll wait.
Same. I'm really happy with MK3S at home. Yeah it's slow by todays standards, but still a workhorse. However at work where I have same printer and constantly have split parts by design to be able to make them. XL with large nozzle is getting really tempting.
It is safe to say that "Prusa fan demand Bambulab to be better so that they can have better Prusa machine", and "Bambu lab fanboys want Prusa to be better so that they can have better Bambu lab machine".
What intrigued me was how well the old Prusa MK3 held up in actually making parts! My son left his old MK3 to me when he got his Bambu and he loves the speed of his Bambu, however, speed really does not matter to this old retired person. I just print overnight or while I do other things. Sucks in a way, I can't really justify buying a new printer to myself or my wife :) Note - I design and print mostly functional parts in PETG so the heated chamber, higher build plate temps, etc. would be nice but ae not essential.
9:35 for majority of users you just dont need hardened nozzle and a few that need it have option to get one. its same situation like in 0.4 vs 0.6, for majority people 0.4 will work better because prints looks a touch cleaner but a few will say that 0.6 is a must because you get significant speed increases with minimal degradation in quality.
I mean, you don't absolutely need one, but if one is starting, having one lets you try a lot of different things without destroying your nozzle. I probably don't need to use CF fillaments, but I would not have known that if I hadn't had a spool to try stuff with.
I think for me, its not so much that you dont need it as it is that, at this price point, hardened steel + camera + filter should really be included and not an upgrade you have to pay for
@@HarryVoyager they would try to have an option to not include brass nozzle but instead have hardened nozzle for a few extra money (price difference between brass and hardened), will be interesting to see how many people will actually go for hardened one and it will cost basically nothing for Prusa to do.
@@CodexAdrian well "Prusa tax" will increase the price a little bit compared to China, but for this extra tax you really buying a 3d printer, not just renting one.
At the two times the price of competition? Hmmm, not sure it is worth it. Others really upped their game, become basically an appliance. What Prusa can offer more that it is worth two times more ( compared to Bambu Lab P1S or Creality K1C)?
@@emuboy85 No, I get you and I know they see 3D farms as their main market, but others got really good. No joke. And if you can buy 20 instead of 10 printers, that means your production capacity is double at the same quality and if I understand even faster printing, since Core One doesn't seems specially fast. You can also control them all from one application. And I think that is important too. So for the volume and specs they bring, I would be not that optimistic. I hope they will sell well, because Prusa is very important company in 3D printing industry.
@@CNCKitchen I'd like to see that. I have only ever used the one piece v6 and volcano nozzles. With these thermal conductivity is on the level of brass.
They produce solid diamond-tipped nozzles under the DiamondBack brand, made by Champion X, in a V6 format-which requires a Nextruder adapter. However, there are rumors that a Nextruder-compatible DiamondBack nozzle is in the works. I’d love to see CNC Kitchen test and review these nozzles!
It's nice to see that Prusa is still making quality parts. The Core One looks like a premium product for sure. I still run an old CR10 v2, These newer machines do have me jealous with the ease of use.
I think having this and the XL would be the ideal ecosystem because they would cover pretty much anything you need to print. That’s a lot of money though especially with a multi tool head model XL
3:04 so their print monitoring camera requires internet connectivity, binding to a cloud account, and would stop working if Prusa stopped supporting it on their cloud system? Not saying that they *would* stop supporting it any time soon, but cloud systems have an ongoing cost and at some point you have to stop supporting legacy devices, thereby bricking it if there is no ability to use it local-only.
If it didn't have internet capability then how would we watch our prints when we are away? Besides, even if they did stop supporting it, their tech is open source and you can use the hacker board i/o to install something else.

I think it was a mistake not to compete with the X1 on build volume. They have additional height, but I think a lot of people are going to look at the smaller plate as a big negative.
I think it was the perfect choice. Prusa builds printers to last and to be upgraded and to fit into the existing ecosystem...not thrown away after 3 years because of degradation. Who cares about that little bit bigger volume...if you want to print big, you anyway need a much bigger printer. You are buying a Prusa as a workhorse, repairable and long lasting. A good ecosystem is worth much more than the latest and greatest...see Apple.
They already tried that with the XL, and it kind of did not work out that great. I rather see them succeed at this, than fail at stuff like they actually did with the XL.
This offers an upgrade path to Mk4 owners and uses proven components. Once they work out the kinks in the Core1, I hope they’ll offer a version with a larger plate. It would make sense in their lineup, and from an engineering perspective it should not be too hard to design one with a good footprint, without adding a lot to the price.
Realistically, 90% of what I print would fit equally well on either print bed. The remaining 10% is large objects that wouldn't fit on either printer and were cut into parts based on the X1's print bed. How representative I am of the larger community I've no idea, but I suspect that for most people it's not an actual issue. It may end up as a *perceived* issue, of course. But reusing the existing print bed means they're reusing the print bed *tooling* and I'm sure that works out to a huge part of how they kept the price down to that of the X1C.
Absolutely love the direction Prusa is going with the Core One. Personally a Voron fan, but if I had to add a reliable backup printer to my workshop, absolutely going for the Prusa. Their product aligns with my values and for the first time in a while offers something reasonably competitive in pricing, especially the kit version (and well, just my opinion as a lego enjoyer, but assembling it is part of the fun).
I really don´t mind the CORE One shipping with a brass nozzle. If you´re printing with abrasive technical materials you´re more than likely already deeper into printing engineering matierals with abrasive properties and likely already own hardened nozzles.
Except people that have issues with leaking nozzles on the Mk3/Mk4 and XL are told "your fault for using an aftermarket nozzle" by Prusa, even though they're buying the official nextruder V6 adapters and V6 nozzles. Such crap from a premium priced printer company that prices itself on being an open ecosystem.

Honestly I expected more from them. It's like you said "the release seems a bit fast". I think they are doing the same mistakes they did with the XL. Just the problems here are less severe.
What mistakes did they do with the XL? I own one (for almost a year now), and it’s a phenomenal machine, I’ve accumulated weeks of print time and no problems at all. Multimaterial unmatched by anything else.
at the same time I don't think they can afford to fuck around. To me it looks like they're tryna get these machines to customers to get some real life feedback about the performance and iterate, maybe losing some time and money now but with the hope of having the next generation of these machines to be actually better or at the same level with the competition without compromises. If bambulab doesn't come up with something as revolutionary as the X1C this year to update their lineup Prusa is gonna catch up fast, even if they probably will never be able to actually beat bambu in pricing which is probably impossible.
@@allEs0nE"almost a year" is your answer. It was released with many issues in mid or late 23 after being delayed. It had plenty of issues. You can check teaching tech's channel and watch the xl's review of you're interested
9:29 If a hardened nozzle is standard on other printers that print as good or better, than there is simply no excuses. The motivation doesn't even matter anymore, if it doesn't "move any needles", when it comes to quality or speed. I'd rather pay a little extra for a hardened nozzle.
Assuming you already have M4s, you could buy a whole Qidi Q1 Pro just for printing engineering materials and it would be still cheaper than the upgrade kit…
The CORE One was the perfect opportunity to create a truly new product line without any of the compromises of the i3 platform, but alas, they chose to maintain an upgrade path at the cost of making the printer more expensive than it needed to be.
I bought a MK4 because of Prusa's reputation to make machines that "just work". Mine regularly fails prints. Just now my colleague told me it failed to print a simple 210*210*1 slab of PETG, printed quite slowly. Most of the time it works, but it still fails too often in my opinion.
I think that adaptive printing based on temperature is worth exploring. E.g. if the temp in the enclosure is say above 30c and the filament is pla, overhangs and bridges are printed slower.
It seems like it really excels at ASA, ABS, PC.. I would have loved to see comparisons with the X1C and perhaps a "stock" Voron for the technical materials.
If only Prusa made 2 hotends solution (to be able to use two different materials at the same print; 2 only to keep costs low)... It would be a hit. No idea if technically possible while keeping quality and speed though.
There are two problems with the Core One that will keep me, a Prusa Fan Boy, from even considering buying one. First, there's no multi material option for it (fact checking myself--there is--the MMU3 is compatible with the Core One). Maybe in the future it will get one, but right now it doesn't have that. (Or maybe I have no clue what I'm talking about.) Second, the market is already saturated with high quality enclosed core-x-y machines at less than half the price. This is the main issue I have with Prusa right now. They are not keeping up competitively with the market in terms of pricing. When I bought my MK3, it was a unique printer that had more options than others on the market. Everyone was playing catchup to Prusa. So I was willing to pay the premium. But the big players have caught up, and are undercutting Prusa on price. Until Prusa makes their printers more competitive pricewise, I don't see any incentive to buy another Prusa. They are all great machines. They are just too expensive.
I need to correct myself. The Core One IS compatible with the MMU3. Total cost is over $1,500 not including shipping, so my other point stands. Way to expensive.
@@rickseiden1 Considering that with Prusa you are buying printer that will be working great for at least 10 years, will receive firmware upgrades, support, has spare parts available, etc. it's not expensive at all. You can buy Bambu cheaper, but you will not own it and one day you may be forced to pay subscription for using it. MMU is much more effective than AMS which wastes a ton of filament when used and it's not worth it. The best multimaterial option is Prusa XL with minimum waste. Sometimes the cheap options aren't really cheaper.
This is the kind of thoughtful and thorough evaluation Ive come to expect from your channel. Its REALLY HARD to develop a machine thats everything to everyone and I think you point that out well. The competition really is about what the two companies does with the information on your pc. And we already know that all Chinese companies are required BY LAW to give information on their users to the Chinese government.

For the PLA... dont.. dont they recommend you keep the door OPEN when you print that, specifically to avoid the heating issue? I'm pretty sure they said that during CES.
6:30 I was also using one of those tiny things and later switched to Makita’s dust blower and oh man, the difference is huge. I never use that little blower any more. Get yourself a proper blower, won’t regret it, although need ear protection(AirPods work as well)
@@nottimothy5994 I had/have a good one too but Makita DAS180Z at its lowest setting is much stronger than any of those tiny things. I am also using with my own built 17Ah(5S3P 21700) 18V battery and it holds for days, with frequent use on a daily basis

Awesome video. I was surprised by your blind test results. I was not expecting the Core One to be leaps and bounds better than the X1C, but enough better to show that we're moving forward. the Core One definitely is a lovely looking machine, and I think when shown next to the X1C, the X1C looks bland and even a little dated. Keep up the good work, it really is appreciated.
@timothymusson5040 We don't know that. All we currently know is the tonnes of gossip going around, which usually ends up as people being angry at a worst case scenario that doesn't happen. I'll give them some time to see what actually develops.

I ordered a CORE One as soon as I could afford it (a couple of weeks ago) as my trusty Mk2.5S (upgraded from an original Mk2 kit) is starting to show it's age, at 9 years old!! - this is the strength and beauty of Prusa - my 9 year old mk2 kit is still getting firmware updates (as a mk2.5S) was upgraded twice in it's life and is still producing repeatable, reliable and useful prints (I only print functional parts for my hobbies and household). Against my Son's Bambu X1C the prints are looking dated, but the CORE One will fix that 🙂 I'm very happy to pay the "Prusa tax" as I like the company and their founder, I support their community spirit and open source philosophy, and as you say, the industry really needs strong competition, rather than a monopoly from a company in a country with very dubius reputation for privacy!!
I bought the X1C because I wanted an enclosed printer. I have learned that printing fast has its drawbacks with plastic other than PLA. I don’t need fast, I want quality, tinker free printing. This might fill that need.
Bestellt. I was on the verge of buying a mk4s a while back, boy am i glad that i waited. If nothing bad happens, this will be the printer to go for a while.
Seeing as the X1C is a few years old now and has been now been beaten by a model that has undergone some decent improvements against the X1C. Sure I think that’s a great idea to have such a newcomer to core x y show them up. We as consumers will profit from this with decent prices to help keep fdm systems become more and more efficient and precise.
I'll be honest and swim against the current: yes, it is too little, too late. What is the added value of this printer that no others have? An active chamber. Great, it must then be better than other closed printers, right? Seemingly not. PLA overhangs are worse than competitors', and maybe other engineering materials will be better kept in check if you put their not-included reinforced nozzle. Let's list pros and cons: Cons: No camera No hardened nozzle Poor overhangs No 3-point tilt leveling No multimaterial capability Pricey Pros: No drama like BambuLab Has an active chamber I also want to address the following: "You can upgrade from the printer you have" is one of the worst things I have ever heard. Have you checked how much it costs to upgrade from one machine to another versus buying a new one while taking into account the printer that you lose in the process? Remember, you lose the money you previously spent on the printer you bought! Quick exercise: If you have an MK3 and upgrade it to an MK4, then to a CoreOne, you will have spent more than the price of a brand new CoreOne while also losing your MK3 and what you spent on it.
I definitely agree that the upgrade path thing has always been a marketting gimmick to seem more open and consumer friendly while not actually offering real value to 99.99%
I think the upgrade from MK3S+ to MK3.5S is fine, but MK3.9S or MK4S isn't it worth... better buy a new printer and sell the old MK3S+ for a good price.
Another problem with that is that they are never able to make a new printer with state of the art technology because they are kept anchored to old tech
Iterative improvements are fine by me, but this particular upgrade path makes no sense. Prusa needs to just bite the bullet and say “Listen, we’ve had a good run but… it’s overdue we get a new platform to future proof ourselves against upcoming innovation”
Right off the bat, I love the way the CORE One looks, and from what I'm seeing, the performance is really solid. It's great to see Prusa innovating this way. Will it be enough to pull me away from BambuLab? Honestly... probably not. Not at this price point. I print mostly in PLA, and the P1P + AMS brings such a crazy amount of value to the table. All the other printers in my lab have been sitting idle collecting dust for over a year now. If I weren't holding out in anticipation of a large format printer coming Soon™, I would have bought 1 or 2 more already. Even so, I'm willing to bet Prusa fans (new and old ) will love the CORE One, and the competition is great for everyone. It's awesome to see these machines evolve beyond the niche tinker-hobby it used to be!
I would love to move back from Bambu to Prusa but the missing "AMS" option having really reliable filament changes is definetly preventing this. MMU was always a pain from me while AMS is working without issues.
I have a Mk4 with the MMU3, and honestly? It just works. It's as reliable as it can be. And the best part: the MMU3 will be made compatible with the Core One at a later date.

Would have liked to see Bambu filament in the blind comparison, too. I really think part of the Bambu consumer-friendly/beginner-friendly "appliance" oriented ecosystem is using their filament in their machines.
I just can't justify the $600+ it would take for my free mk4 to become a core one with a camera. I could buy another bambu or qidi q1 pro, both of which print the same or better than my mk4, and I just don't have the time to assemble. You can upgrade just to MK4S. Which prints better than Bambu or Qidi. MK4S is a great printer. No need for rush to Core One (if you don't need closed chamber for special materials).
I would love to see blind comparison of print quality for the same print speed. It's not fair to compare slower printers like MK3S and X1C to faster ones like MK4S or even Core One. Peak speed performance may affect print quality. But speed is not everything. Sometimes the result quality is more important.
So, compared to X1C - it's more expensive - it prints with the same quality or worse - it's slower - it's smaller build volume + it's open source + it's made in europe
No real AMS alternative, no camera out of the box, no hardened nozzle in the box(meh). I was super excited for this thing but I think I’ll just keep my x1c for now. I’d love to switch away from Bambu but this just doesn’t really compete.
The core one and X1C are the same price. $1200 fully assembled. The core one in kit form is $250 cheaper at only $950 The core one actually prints faster, I just tested 10 different files and the core one was 10-15% faster on all of them with similar settings. The core one is significantly quieter at even when printing faster and double the weight due to the all steel construction. The core one is more robust and rigid, it's a tank. The core one and prusa have literally zero risk of turning their back and going anti consumer/anti 3rd party like bambu has already done. The core one has active chamber temp control and a X linear rail/bearing instead of a consumable CF rod/bushing X set up like the X1C
@@LilApe I've actually looked at a discounted price. Indeed, they are the same price. "Similar settings" - X doubt. For some reason, it's slower in this review. 99% of the BL consumers won't notice a difference. And it's BL who introduced them to 3D printing thanks to low barrier and not Prusa. It does not sound like being anticonsumer. What's gonna change is you 3rd party software won't be able to use their cloud servers. I'm pretty sure that's why Prusa can still afford those "free" online gimmicks - lack of popularity. Active chamber temperature control = a thermometer that starts the fans if the temp gets too high. X1C already has the sensor. I wonder if it was not a patent thing that prohibits them from adding the fan control to it. Consumable CF rod/bushing - yeah, I've replaced it 3 times last month. Honestly - how long does a carbon rail last compared to linear bearing?
I've got two Bambu Lab printers and I'd love a Core One. I'm in Australia though and Bambu Lab has a warehouse here, so I have quick access to their products and don't have to pay much for shipping. Additionally all taxes are already included in the price.
For me the main reason for choosing prusa is the ROI. A machine that receives HW and SW updates for many years, totally reliable, that prints top quality, that requires minimal maintenance and that in case of need can count on a five star customer support.

Regardless, great video, and thank you for the insights! I've been in the market for a "set and forget" type of printer recently and I think this solidifies my decision to get a CORE One. I'm confident Prusa can address many of the issues you caught in your review with firmware or slicer updates, and their after-sales support and product longevity is just unmatched. Plus with the recent Bambu Lab stuff... yeah.
Have you tried removing the chamber door for PLA prints? That might lower the chamber temperature enough to print overhangs as nicely as MK4S. I remember Prusa was showing off how you could swap the side the door was on, so you should be able to remove it entirely.
Id suggest getting a Bambu P1s, it's by far better and doesn't look like its homemade, the speed is also half that of Bambu

In a future version maybe have an intake fan as well or allow the exhaust fan to be controlled to spin both directions so when you needed additional cool air it can pull it in instead of removing it.

Most people don't really care so much about the Bambu changes. They aren't as drastic as all the enthusiasts are screaming about. The Bambu is still what I'm recommending to people. It's still cheaper than this and just as good, if not better. This is still slower, still more expensive. Sure, it's a way better option for Prusa fans, but for the average person who doesn't understand why they would care, they're going to continue picking Bambu.

You have one of the best resource themed videos on UA-cam for 3d printing and I thank you for it.
For me the most important thing is I'm investing in "Made in Europe" instead of "Made in China". Prusa even solders their own PCBs for example. If you take that into account they're still incredibly affordable. We have a whole lot more regulations here which Chinese companies simply don't need to obey to.
My mk3 is still running very well despite being over 6 years old and literally never had any printing issues that needed intervention.

I have owned the entire Prusa FDM printer family for about 10 years now, having bought some printers on presale and some years after release. I can only give everyone this advice: don't you ever buy a Prusa printer on day one!
Give them a few months to iron out firmware and hardware flaws!
I bought my Prusa XL 5TH + enclosure two months ago (thus, over a year after release), and man, it was a pleasure to assemble, and it runs well-contrary to what the early reviews said. On the other hand, I bought the MK4 on presale, and it took them one year and an S-iteration to get it finished (mostly). Because Prusa has been supporting its printers for years with update/upgrade options to newer models, you will not run into a buy of an end-of-life product that easy.
Correct. Our 7 year old Mk3s became MK3S, then MK4 and now will soon become Core Ones. Upgrades allowed us to keep components serviced to new ( bearings etc... ). I don't know any other company that offers this. Invaluable.

I spoke with Prusa support today because my XL shows a recently discovered issue with the main cable assembly. That is also a nice thing you buy with the extended costs of a Prusa printer compared to a cheap Chinese one: the support didn't have a single problem sending me the replacement parts. I just had to fill out a short form where they track this issue. I also got some additional advice on narrowing the root cause, and I shall return to them if the problem returns for further assistance and replacement parts.
I love it when a company offers you an optional ecosystem that you would use because it is good, not because you are forced to.
I love how it took Prusa 2.5 years to come up with an answer for the X1C.

@@jamiemacdonald436 yeah - Stefan commented that are using PC-Blend for the printed parts, but I wish he had spoken more about what a pain it is for "pre-assembled" XL and Mk4 printers to come with PETG parts, when Prusa knows many of them will be put into enclosures. There was no reason to make them with PETG from the start. It also means if you buy a pre-assembled XL like I did, you are forced to do a lot of disassembly to replace the sub-par PETG parts. Then why did I pay for the assembly fee if I am stuck doing it myself?

Honestly I think one reason is to show you can print your own parts if you want. Notably all the parts are available on printables.
People rarely do, as prusa is meant to be the original ready to go printer Vs DIY or modders heaven.

I'm so tempted to buy one but the build volume is too small for my projects. I would get the xl but it's just too expensive for me. I hope Prusa can eventually scale their operation to the point where we can see better prices in the US. The MK3, now MK3S+, just got updated to firmware 3.14.1 a few months back. PrusaSlicer updates have made the MK3 so much more capable, but that's not exclusive to Prusa machines.
Still using my upgraded to Prusa Mk2.5s. Their support is great, had an issue, opened a ticket and they helped me diagnose, 9 years after purchase. If only they had released this last year, I wouldn't have moved on to a Voron with my latest printer.

I do not own a Prusa printer myself, but I like the allover concept of Prusa. Easy maintenance and expansion / update options that you can't find elsewhere.
In my opinion the price is absolutely fine for what you get.
It is important to have and keep such great manufacturers in Europe, and I'm also thinking of some filament manufacturers here.

Thank you for the great review. Up to this point was Bambu Lab X1 but did not like a lot of the baggage attached. This is now a viable alternative. I don't mind paying more for the peace of mind that comes with dealing with a known trusted entity!
For that price it should really come with a hardened nozzle and print abresives out of the box. Also it needs a good multicolor/multimaterial system
The average user doesnt print abrasives though and brass has better thermal conductivity than hardened steel nozles. Tungsten and other materials are options but that'd drive the price up another bump when people are already complaining about the price.

I was hoping for "remarkable" print quality. Given the fanfare around the new ducting for the fan, cleaner overhangs was clearly marketed in the early promotional material. Both of the comprehensive reviews said there were a few quality concerns. My A1 broke so I can't say it was a high quality unit but the print quality was astonishing. I'm going to press the pause button until there is a lot of feedback.
The most hilarious part is I literally signed up to be notified about the release of the CORE One ***TODAY***, like 2 hours before the release xD

Same. I'm really happy with MK3S at home. Yeah it's slow by todays standards, but still a workhorse. However at work where I have same printer and constantly have split parts by design to be able to make them. XL with large nozzle is getting really tempting.
It is safe to say that "Prusa fan demand Bambulab to be better so that they can have better Prusa machine", and "Bambu lab fanboys want Prusa to be better so that they can have better Bambu lab machine".

The Core One is actually the first printer from Prusa that I'm seriously considering buying.
What intrigued me was how well the old Prusa MK3 held up in actually making parts! My son left his old MK3 to me when he got his Bambu and he loves the speed of his Bambu, however, speed really does not matter to this old retired person. I just print overnight or while I do other things. Sucks in a way, I can't really justify buying a new printer to myself or my wife :) Note - I design and print mostly functional parts in PETG so the heated chamber, higher build plate temps, etc. would be nice but ae not essential.
I've got 10 year old machines that still print as well as modern units, motion systems(hardware) haven't really changed just firmware and slicers.
I've seen this repeatedly. Bed slingers don't have a quality disadvantage. It's all about the speed.

9:35 for majority of users you just dont need hardened nozzle and a few that need it have option to get one. its same situation like in 0.4 vs 0.6, for majority people 0.4 will work better because prints looks a touch cleaner but a few will say that 0.6 is a must because you get significant speed increases with minimal degradation in quality.
I mean, you don't absolutely need one, but if one is starting, having one lets you try a lot of different things without destroying your nozzle.
I probably don't need to use CF fillaments, but I would not have known that if I hadn't had a spool to try stuff with.
I think for me, its not so much that you dont need it as it is that, at this price point, hardened steel + camera + filter should really be included and not an upgrade you have to pay for

Just so you know, loadcell on the nozzle means you need to keep your nozzle kinda clean! (Their PC CF blend is incredible ! It looks SO GOOD)
Prusa should have just had a tungsten carbide nozzle made. One nozzle to rule them all.

@@CNCKitchen I'd like to see that. I have only ever used the one piece v6 and volcano nozzles. With these thermal conductivity is on the level of brass.
They produce solid diamond-tipped nozzles under the DiamondBack brand, made by Champion X, in a V6 format-which requires a Nextruder adapter. However, there are rumors that a Nextruder-compatible DiamondBack nozzle is in the works. I’d love to see CNC Kitchen test and review these nozzles!

It's nice to see that Prusa is still making quality parts. The Core One looks like a premium product for sure. I still run an old CR10 v2, These newer machines do have me jealous with the ease of use.
I think having this and the XL would be the ideal ecosystem because they would cover pretty much anything you need to print. That’s a lot of money though especially with a multi tool head model XL

3:04 so their print monitoring camera requires internet connectivity, binding to a cloud account, and would stop working if Prusa stopped supporting it on their cloud system? Not saying that they *would* stop supporting it any time soon, but cloud systems have an ongoing cost and at some point you have to stop supporting legacy devices, thereby bricking it if there is no ability to use it local-only.

I think it was a mistake not to compete with the X1 on build volume. They have additional height, but I think a lot of people are going to look at the smaller plate as a big negative.
I think it was the perfect choice. Prusa builds printers to last and to be upgraded and to fit into the existing ecosystem...not thrown away after 3 years because of degradation. Who cares about that little bit bigger volume...if you want to print big, you anyway need a much bigger printer. You are buying a Prusa as a workhorse, repairable and long lasting. A good ecosystem is worth much more than the latest and greatest...see Apple.
They already tried that with the XL, and it kind of did not work out that great. I rather see them succeed at this, than fail at stuff like they actually did with the XL.

This offers an upgrade path to Mk4 owners and uses proven components. Once they work out the kinks in the Core1, I hope they’ll offer a version with a larger plate. It would make sense in their lineup, and from an engineering perspective it should not be too hard to design one with a good footprint, without adding a lot to the price.
Realistically, 90% of what I print would fit equally well on either print bed. The remaining 10% is large objects that wouldn't fit on either printer and were cut into parts based on the X1's print bed. How representative I am of the larger community I've no idea, but I suspect that for most people it's not an actual issue. It may end up as a *perceived* issue, of course.
But reusing the existing print bed means they're reusing the print bed *tooling* and I'm sure that works out to a huge part of how they kept the price down to that of the X1C.

Absolutely love the direction Prusa is going with the Core One. Personally a Voron fan, but if I had to add a reliable backup printer to my workshop, absolutely going for the Prusa. Their product aligns with my values and for the first time in a while offers something reasonably competitive in pricing, especially the kit version (and well, just my opinion as a lego enjoyer, but assembling it is part of the fun).

Check out Monolith. On sheet metal it's a cheaper upgrade than MK4->MK4s and it went from tinker machine to most reliable workhorse in my shop.

I really don´t mind the CORE One shipping with a brass nozzle.
If you´re printing with abrasive technical materials you´re more than likely already deeper into printing engineering matierals with abrasive properties and likely already own hardened nozzles.
But that's exactly why it should be opt-out thing. This thing is very suitable for technical materials, unlike MK-series with "open air" design.
Except people that have issues with leaking nozzles on the Mk3/Mk4 and XL are told "your fault for using an aftermarket nozzle" by Prusa, even though they're buying the official nextruder V6 adapters and V6 nozzles. Such crap from a premium priced printer company that prices itself on being an open ecosystem.

To me it looks like they're tryna get these machines to customers to get some real life feedback about the performance and iterate, maybe losing some time and money now but with the hope of having the next generation of these machines to be actually better or at the same level with the competition without compromises.
If bambulab doesn't come up with something as revolutionary as the X1C this year to update their lineup Prusa is gonna catch up fast, even if they probably will never be able to actually beat bambu in pricing which is probably impossible.

9:29 If a hardened nozzle is standard on other printers that print as good or better, than there is simply no excuses. The motivation doesn't even matter anymore, if it doesn't "move any needles", when it comes to quality or speed. I'd rather pay a little extra for a hardened nozzle.
Assuming you already have M4s, you could buy a whole Qidi Q1 Pro just for printing engineering materials and it would be still cheaper than the upgrade kit…
The CORE One was the perfect opportunity to create a truly new product line without any of the compromises of the i3 platform, but alas, they chose to maintain an upgrade path at the cost of making the printer more expensive than it needed to be.

I bought a MK4 because of Prusa's reputation to make machines that "just work".
Mine regularly fails prints. Just now my colleague told me it failed to print a simple 210*210*1 slab of PETG, printed quite slowly.
Most of the time it works, but it still fails too often in my opinion.
Perhaps your infill is the wrong choice.

I think that adaptive printing based on temperature is worth exploring. E.g. if the temp in the enclosure is say above 30c and the filament is pla, overhangs and bridges are printed slower.
It seems like it really excels at ASA, ABS, PC.. I would have loved to see comparisons with the X1C and perhaps a "stock" Voron for the technical materials.
If only Prusa made 2 hotends solution (to be able to use two different materials at the same print; 2 only to keep costs low)... It would be a hit. No idea if technically possible while keeping quality and speed though.
There are two problems with the Core One that will keep me, a Prusa Fan Boy, from even considering buying one.
First, there's no multi material option for it (fact checking myself--there is--the MMU3 is compatible with the Core One). Maybe in the future it will get one, but right now it doesn't have that. (Or maybe I have no clue what I'm talking about.)
Second, the market is already saturated with high quality enclosed core-x-y machines at less than half the price. This is the main issue I have with Prusa right now. They are not keeping up competitively with the market in terms of pricing.
When I bought my MK3, it was a unique printer that had more options than others on the market. Everyone was playing catchup to Prusa. So I was willing to pay the premium. But the big players have caught up, and are undercutting Prusa on price. Until Prusa makes their printers more competitive pricewise, I don't see any incentive to buy another Prusa.
They are all great machines. They are just too expensive.
I need to correct myself. The Core One IS compatible with the MMU3.
Total cost is over $1,500 not including shipping, so my other point stands. Way to expensive.
@@rickseiden1 Considering that with Prusa you are buying printer that will be working great for at least 10 years, will receive firmware upgrades, support, has spare parts available, etc. it's not expensive at all. You can buy Bambu cheaper, but you will not own it and one day you may be forced to pay subscription for using it.
MMU is much more effective than AMS which wastes a ton of filament when used and it's not worth it. The best multimaterial option is Prusa XL with minimum waste.
Sometimes the cheap options aren't really cheaper.

It absolutely is the 3d printer I want, but the price puts it completely out of my range, with shipping, it is a years electric bills or four months rent.

For the PLA... dont.. dont they recommend you keep the door OPEN when you print that, specifically to avoid the heating issue? I'm pretty sure they said that during CES.
magnificent Josef himself says in the core one video that you can keep the door closed with PLA
6:30 I was also using one of those tiny things and later switched to Makita’s dust blower and oh man, the difference is huge. I never use that little blower any more. Get yourself a proper blower, won’t regret it, although need ear protection(AirPods work as well)

@@nottimothy5994 I had/have a good one too but Makita DAS180Z at its lowest setting is much stronger than any of those tiny things. I am also using with my own built 17Ah(5S3P 21700) 18V battery and it holds for days, with frequent use on a daily basis
@CNCKitchen, you might want to try add 'Vibration stopping tape' onto the metal sheets. So they do not act as amplifiers of sound.
As with all Prusa printers it looks great, however the price is always what takes me away from them :(

Awesome video. I was surprised by your blind test results. I was not expecting the Core One to be leaps and bounds better than the X1C, but enough better to show that we're moving forward. the Core One definitely is a lovely looking machine, and I think when shown next to the X1C, the X1C looks bland and even a little dated. Keep up the good work, it really is appreciated.
If Bambu still drops the ball after all the lack of clarity regarding what their plans are, I'll be putting in for a few of these 😊

@timothymusson5040 We don't know that. All we currently know is the tonnes of gossip going around, which usually ends up as people being angry at a worst case scenario that doesn't happen. I'll give them some time to see what actually develops.

I ordered a CORE One as soon as I could afford it (a couple of weeks ago) as my trusty Mk2.5S (upgraded from an original Mk2 kit) is starting to show it's age, at 9 years old!! - this is the strength and beauty of Prusa - my 9 year old mk2 kit is still getting firmware updates (as a mk2.5S) was upgraded twice in it's life and is still producing repeatable, reliable and useful prints (I only print functional parts for my hobbies and household). Against my Son's Bambu X1C the prints are looking dated, but the CORE One will fix that 🙂 I'm very happy to pay the "Prusa tax" as I like the company and their founder, I support their community spirit and open source philosophy, and as you say, the industry really needs strong competition, rather than a monopoly from a company in a country with very dubius reputation for privacy!!
I bought the X1C because I wanted an enclosed printer. I have learned that printing fast has its drawbacks with plastic other than PLA. I don’t need fast, I want quality, tinker free printing.
This might fill that need.

Seeing as the X1C is a few years old now and has been now been beaten by a model that has undergone some decent improvements against the X1C. Sure I think that’s a great idea to have such a newcomer to core x y show them up. We as consumers will profit from this with decent prices to help keep fdm systems become more and more efficient and precise.
I'll be honest and swim against the current: yes, it is too little, too late.
What is the added value of this printer that no others have? An active chamber. Great, it must then be better than other closed printers, right? Seemingly not. PLA overhangs are worse than competitors', and maybe other engineering materials will be better kept in check if you put their not-included reinforced nozzle.
Let's list pros and cons:

No 3-point tilt leveling
No multimaterial capability

I also want to address the following: "You can upgrade from the printer you have" is one of the worst things I have ever heard. Have you checked how much it costs to upgrade from one machine to another versus buying a new one while taking into account the printer that you lose in the process? Remember, you lose the money you previously spent on the printer you bought! Quick exercise: If you have an MK3 and upgrade it to an MK4, then to a CoreOne, you will have spent more than the price of a brand new CoreOne while also losing your MK3 and what you spent on it.
I definitely agree that the upgrade path thing has always been a marketting gimmick to seem more open and consumer friendly while not actually offering real value to 99.99%
I think the upgrade from MK3S+ to MK3.5S is fine, but MK3.9S or MK4S isn't it worth... better buy a new printer and sell the old MK3S+ for a good price.
Another problem with that is that they are never able to make a new printer with state of the art technology because they are kept anchored to old tech
Iterative improvements are fine by me, but this particular upgrade path makes no sense. Prusa needs to just bite the bullet and say “Listen, we’ve had a good run but… it’s overdue we get a new platform to future proof ourselves against upcoming innovation”

Right off the bat, I love the way the CORE One looks, and from what I'm seeing, the performance is really solid. It's great to see Prusa innovating this way.
Will it be enough to pull me away from BambuLab? Honestly... probably not. Not at this price point. I print mostly in PLA, and the P1P + AMS brings such a crazy amount of value to the table. All the other printers in my lab have been sitting idle collecting dust for over a year now. If I weren't holding out in anticipation of a large format printer coming Soon™, I would have bought 1 or 2 more already. Even so, I'm willing to bet Prusa fans (new and old ) will love the CORE One, and the competition is great for everyone. It's awesome to see these machines evolve beyond the niche tinker-hobby it used to be!
I would love to move back from Bambu to Prusa but the missing "AMS" option having really reliable filament changes is definetly preventing this. MMU was always a pain from me while AMS is working without issues.
I have a Mk4 with the MMU3, and honestly? It just works. It's as reliable as it can be. And the best part: the MMU3 will be made compatible with the Core One at a later date.

Would have liked to see Bambu filament in the blind comparison, too. I really think part of the Bambu consumer-friendly/beginner-friendly "appliance" oriented ecosystem is using their filament in their machines.
I just can't justify the $600+ it would take for my free mk4 to become a core one with a camera. I could buy another bambu or qidi q1 pro, both of which print the same or better than my mk4, and I just don't have the time to assemble. Maybe if they make a bundle deal or something to discount the leap from base mk4 to core one
You can upgrade just to MK4S. Which prints better than Bambu or Qidi. MK4S is a great printer. No need for rush to Core One (if you don't need closed chamber for special materials).

I would love to see blind comparison of print quality for the same print speed. It's not fair to compare slower printers like MK3S and X1C to faster ones like MK4S or even Core One. Peak speed performance may affect print quality. But speed is not everything. Sometimes the result quality is more important.
So, compared to X1C
- it's more expensive
- it prints with the same quality or worse
- it's slower
- it's smaller build volume
+ it's open source
+ it's made in europe
No real AMS alternative, no camera out of the box, no hardened nozzle in the box(meh). I was super excited for this thing but I think I’ll just keep my x1c for now. I’d love to switch away from Bambu but this just doesn’t really compete.
The core one and X1C are the same price. $1200 fully assembled. The core one in kit form is $250 cheaper at only $950
The core one actually prints faster, I just tested 10 different files and the core one was 10-15% faster on all of them with similar settings.
The core one is significantly quieter at even when printing faster and double the weight due to the all steel construction. The core one is more robust and rigid, it's a tank.
The core one and prusa have literally zero risk of turning their back and going anti consumer/anti 3rd party like bambu has already done.
The core one has active chamber temp control and a X linear rail/bearing instead of a consumable CF rod/bushing X set up like the X1C

"Similar settings" - X doubt. For some reason, it's slower in this review.
99% of the BL consumers won't notice a difference. And it's BL who introduced them to 3D printing thanks to low barrier and not Prusa. It does not sound like being anticonsumer. What's gonna change is you 3rd party software won't be able to use their cloud servers. I'm pretty sure that's why Prusa can still afford those "free" online gimmicks - lack of popularity.
Active chamber temperature control = a thermometer that starts the fans if the temp gets too high. X1C already has the sensor. I wonder if it was not a patent thing that prohibits them from adding the fan control to it.
Consumable CF rod/bushing - yeah, I've replaced it 3 times last month. Honestly - how long does a carbon rail last compared to linear bearing?
I've got two Bambu Lab printers and I'd love a Core One. I'm in Australia though and Bambu Lab has a warehouse here, so I have quick access to their products and don't have to pay much for shipping. Additionally all taxes are already included in the price.

For me the main reason for choosing prusa is the ROI. A machine that receives HW and SW updates for many years, totally reliable, that prints top quality, that requires minimal maintenance and that in case of need can count on a five star customer support.
