Gustavo Dudamel, conductor
Shostakovich Symphony 10
mvt III. Allegretto
Without doubt, these young musicians play in the same level or better than the finest and best paid orchestras in the world. This is truly Venezuela's gift to humantiy. Shostakovich would be proud, and all the suffering he endured would have made it all worth it just to hear this performance. A heart felt thanks to all who made this possible.
Excellent! Thanks a lot!!
In a letter to Nazirova, Shostakovich himself noted the similarity of the motif to the ape call in the first movement of Das Lied von der Erde, a work which he had been listening to around that time.
At concert pitch one fifth lower, the notes spell out "E La Mi Re A" in a combination of French and German notation. This motif, called out twelve times on the horn, represents Elmira Nazirova, a student of the composer's with whom he fell in love.
The motif is of ambiguous tonality, giving it an air of uncertainty or hollowness.
Just fabulous. Reminds me of the great Curtis Orchestra! Bravissimo!
True; but his eighth string quartet has the motive DSCH ALL over the place. That is the piece that he dedicated to himself. Awesome works!
The same horn call notes are used in both motifs,
and both are repeatedly played by the horn.
Love The Wiki!
3:36 the hair!
Well performed. It would be more than a little nerve-wracking to have all those cameras zipping all over the place, eh?
Its practicaly saying DSCH+ELMIRA=love. Shostakovich was in love with his student Elmira. he wrote this symphony for her.
Haha wikipedia xD
