I remember seeing this program on PBS years and years ago in the early seventies. Vincent Price gives a good reading Edgar Allan Poe The Tell-Tale Heart, sounds like a true madman who is trying to convince me and you that he is sane as anyone else.
No one, and I mean no one can read the way that Vincent price does! The man was a true gift and talented beyond words! Rest in peace Vincent, you gave us wonderful moments to look back on!
ahhhh vincent price the king of horror and terror, his voice alone van send shivers down your spine, my grate grate grate uncle twice removed used to act along side him in a few films, GOD REST BOTH THIER SOULS
I agree 1 billion percent that Vincent Price is the best narraotor in the world! :D Vincent Price is beyond any narrator I've EVER heard. That voice! That amazing, dramatic voicee! Along with his grasping face expressions. Ahh.. it gives you chills. Edgar Allan Poe is also genius for such suspenseful, detailed writing! Agh, great combination. That's why this video is so good! I can't imagine if it had never been done..
Edgar allan poe was a very lost soul. He was weak and wary, and no one on this earth will ever understand what he had to go through. You can really tell his pain in his writings, but that's only the tiniest shred of the dread that went through his mind. Rest in peace edgar allan pie, may you finally be happy.
My English teacher taught us about and dressed up as Edgar Allan Poe today. It was pretty awesome. He was telling us about "himself", then read us this.
This was broadcast in the mid seventies if I'm not mistaken. I have it on DVD and it should still be available. Price also performs a few other Poe stories. Just incredible, but I would expect no less from Vinnie.
i remember in 8th grade my fav english teacher read this to us . he covered the windows and turned off the lights and just had a flashlight and he read it sooooo perfectly. this is such a good story! love poe
Vincent Price is one of my all-time favorite actors. He had the ability to scare the hell out of me. One of the movies I love him best in is Diary of A Madman. RIP!
Fist time I heared this tale was several years ago when I bought some Halloween CD tapes that had several ghost stores on it from Headless Horseman to Tell Tale Heart. It was great I'm a big Fan of Vincent Price He is one of the few hollwood stars I wish I had chance to meet before he passed away.
The one thing about Price is that he was BORN to act/read out Poe's work, his voice is beautiful, his acting just as much, nothing beats Price telling/acting out Poe's work, he was a master at it. I have not seen or heard another guy who can do a great job like Price did, nothing else compares to Price, im not saying actors havent done decent enough jobs, they have, just that Price was in a league of his own when it came to Poe's work that there is no comparison.
awesome! i read this story a long time ago.. im currently reading some stuff about edgar allan poe in my English class, i didnt know he had to do with this! thats so cool!
I love the part of this video where he widened his eyes and they make me laugh. They were the funniest pair of eyes Vincent Price ever had in his head.
I have acted this every year in high school i won 3 times and the last year at the very end when "Villains!" I shrieked, "dissemble no more! I admit the deed! -- tear up the planks! -- here, here! -- it is the beating of his hideous heart!" i made my self cried in a psycho kind of way. i won first prize that year.
2:40-2:45 WOW...First you open the glass door,in looong steps, then your eyes have to get use to the darkness, your breathing & steps are LOUD!!.Find and follow the cords & unplud them, ssslowly, cuz there are people upstairs.get every thing ready but keep your ear to the cealing.Damn.I was 13 & just the 1 time. But for having a big mouth it came back bite me in the arse.Man V/P is a hypnotist!!the way he does his dialogue he pull you in & keeps you there,he makes every thing he's in more watchable
Everyone will eventually agree that Vincent was the King Horror for his acting on Poe stories. He was my hero that put me on the path of Poe and other great literature such as Oedipus Rex. I wish I had a copy of him playing a part in a Sophacles play.
@MushuPork13 there is no probably about it lol. What a great talent, lost forever, thank the maker we were blessed with him in a time of capturing his true genius. And this was without teleprompters! Live forever Vincent we love you.

I'm a big Fan of Vincent Price He is one of the few hollwood stars I wish I had chance to meet before he passed away.
Agreed. So scary when I was little, it wasn't what one saw, rather what one didn't. No movie today gets me the way the old horror movies did.
The one thing about Price is that he was BORN to act/read out Poe's work, his voice is beautiful, his acting just as much, nothing beats Price telling/acting out Poe's work, he was a master at it.

My favorite peice of Poe literature(:
A barely there stage and props. The heart itself is only a red light on his hands but...oh my gosh....his horror is palpable!!!!!
I read this in class!
"would a mad man be so wise?"
Poe is the benchmark for all great horror writers
