Which is Better? Miele or Dyson?
So between Miele and Dyson is one definitively better than the other? Basically, no. Both brands offer their own distinct set of features and benefits, along with drawbacks.
Depending on what exactly you’re looking for, Miele or Dyson could have the best option for you.
    1. What type of vacuum do you need?
Upright Vacuum - These models generally have the most suction power and on-board features. Likewise, they are also usually heavy and can be hard to maintain at times.
Stick Vacuum - Stick vacuums are used similarly to an upright, but they are significantly lighter, easier to maneuver. That being said, they also have smaller dust bins and may have less suction power.
Robot Vacuum - Robot vacuums take the work right out vacuuming. Set it and forget it, these vacuums can run on their own, whether you’re home or not. Specifically considering Miele and Dyson, I have reservations about both of these models. If you’re hunting for a robot vacuum, I would recommend you check out our best robot vacuums guide.
Canister Vacuum - Canister vacuums have strong suction power, are generally just slightly lighter than a traditional upright, and can be wheeled around as you clean. The in-hand portion is light like a stick vacuum. The Miele and Dyson canister vacuum models are corded.
    2. What is your budget?
Depending on the exact type of vacuum you’re looking for, each brand seems to excel in different areas, as far as budget is concerned.
For upright vacuums, Miele vacuums range from the $$ to $$$ tier. Dysons have a bit wider range, starting around the low $$ tier, but going towards the top of the $$$ tier.
Stick vacuums, Miele only has one model that floats around the bottom of the $$ tier while Dyson offers five options, supplying a range from the bottom of $$ to the top top of $$$ tier.
For robot vacuums, the Miele model is around the $$$ tier, while the Dyson comes in hot at the top of our $$$ category (arguably breaking ground into a new $$$$ tier).
Canister vacuums, the Miele range is at the top of the market, around $$$ to $$$$, while Dyson comes in closer to the top of $$ and ranging up to $$$.
    3. What features are important to you?
You want a cordless stick vacuum with a long run time? You’ll want to check out the Dyson V10, the Dyson V11 Torque Drive, and the Dyson V11 Outsize.
Want want a cordless vacuum with the smartest features and most power? Don’t miss the Dyson V11 Outsize or Dyson V11 Torque Drive.
You want the absolute best vacuum for hardwoods floors? The Miele Compact C1 can’t be beat. In addition, Dyson cordless vacuums with the soft roller head like the V10 Absolute and V8 Absolute are also good choice.
You want the power of an upright, but in a smaller size? Don’t miss the Dyson Multi Floor 2.
You need something to remove pet hair? Dyson’s Animal 2 or the Miele Cat & Dog are both good choices.

The problem is that the batteries in the vacuum cleaner work like in a telephone, after some time they are to be replaced. So I prefer the cable because I can vacuum the whole house, not one floor quickly.

My 16 year old Miele is going strong. Always used authentic bags and filters and once had to have the shop clean the cord retractor mechanism. Otherwise no issues.

One thing to note - Batteries always deteriate. Anything with a battery is going to fail within 5 years. If they can be repaired easily, thats a bonus. Philips trimmers for example super glue their batteries to the motherboard making them impossible to replace. Once the battery is dead, your trimmer is dead too regardless of how much you've used it. Some companies do this as a secret planned obsolescence strategy so you go buy a new device.

You didn’t connect the handle on the wand of the Dyson Canister. With the handle there’s a air suction adjustment trigger to release some suction for larger debris pick up.

Miele for sure on mattress, just due to the form factor of most of their canister vacuums.

I found a Dyson corded upright in the trash one day and decided to take it apart to see what's inside. About an hour later I had a huge pile of tiny plastic parts and dozens and dozens of various sized screws, springs and wires. It looked like a giant Lego set. There was zero chance I would be able to put it back together. It was going back in the trash/recycling.
I also have a corded Miele C2 Compact which I took apart to compare and clean.
7 identical screws is all there was to remove and I had half a half dozen beautifully designed pieces in about 10 minutes. It took less time to put it back together too. It didn't need cleaning either. I'll still have that Miele in 20 years.
Bagged is the only way to go too

I love my Miele cylinder vac. It doesn't use a lot of energy. It has great suction power. It is fairly quiet for a vacuum cleaner. It has a bag that is useful for people who might have allergies. You don't necessarily want to be cleaning out those Dyson containers all the time. I think it is better to have everything you hovered in a nice bag that self-locks so you don't need to deal with all that, come into any contact with it or be breathing it in. The Dyson cleaners might be powerful and great for a lot of people but they have their downsides. Being bagless I think is a big downside. The size of their vacuum cleaners and especially their weight of them are not the best especially if you are cleaning stairs. If anything ever goes wrong with your Dyson good look getting it repaired and having the replacement parts you need for it at a reasonable price. You can't beat Miele and German-made products for the home in my view especially vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, and washing machines.

I will say my 10 year old Miele S1 (if I recall the model correctly) upright has been a beast since day one and remains so to this day. While a bag collection system might seem to be bothersome for some folks, I 100% prefer it over the dusty dumping of canisters frequently. I would estimate a single collection bag holds the equivalent to 25 or more canister dumps. I may change the bag every month or so at most. It can completely pack the bag like a brick and the weight to match. I have used varies other vacuums that friends and family try to convince me over with. My test is simple, I have a black carpet in my theater room and a white cat the Miele just cant seem to be beat by the offerings I have tried for this test. I originally went with it due to the heavy hospital use of this vacuum for both HEPA and heavy use. Zero issues. No tools needed to disassemble the thing into 20 parts if ever needed. Really can't say enough good about it. Only drawback is the wand is a rather unwieldy to use at times as it requires a second hand on the vacuum to prevent it from tumbling over. Minor complaint for all work it puts in.

I have 30 very messy caged Parakeets in my Kitchen Nook area (only place w/o carpets). Their dander, feathers, and seed spillage is a daily chore, not to mention their ongoing bowl movements. My floored kitchen nook is always a mess, no matter how much I clean. Right now, for last 5 years, I have used a ShopVac and Kirby Attachments to clean their mess.
I also steam clean my carpets a lot with a Hoover. My returned water is always so dirty, and lots of seeds and dander that my Kirby Vacuum didn't suck up off carpets. So I fear the KIRBY just can't keep up anymore. (It's not old, just bought June 2020.)
Just heard about Miele on UA-cam, and I am interested in them. Just wondering which one suits me. I either want C2 or C3 with Carpet LED roller attachment. Do I really need Brilliant? Can I be happy with C3 Soft Carpet? What do you think? Brigitte in Tulsa Oklahoma Age 65.

We haven't tested the C2 or C3 models, only the C1. But even the C1 we found to be an amazing machine. I have no doubt that the C2 and C3 would be equal to or better.

If you want to do both carpets and hard surfaces I'd choose one with a motor brushroll, C1 Classic Turbo is an option - amzn.to/3bsaO6u

If you have allergies Miele is hands down your best option full stop. If dust does not bother you look for Dyson, you can typically find them on sale somewhere at some point. However, Miele is extremely hard to find outside of their set price range. If you are in America you will will pay a premium for Miele vs the EU / Asia. Straight suction vacuums are generally very poor for deep down dust and grit extraction in everyday use. Putting rice or salt on the carpets still isn't representative of general use. I find hair turn into small tiny balls of debris that get pushed around on carpets before enough passes eventually picks them up, vs powerhead which usually pick everything up in one pass. Id go for the Dyson's due to performance and easy of use with the V11 series vacuums. Mieles upright has been discontinued in the UK at least, and dint prove as popular nor as good as many imagine. Very difficult machine to work on and small parts in the cleaner head were prone to failing. Also, only the C3 Complete has a power-head, the others have air-driven heads which are of course better on carpets than straight suction novels, but not a patch on electric motor-assisted units.

because you'll have the dyson batteries sitting on a charger 24/7 when not in use, they will need to be replaced YEARLY if you need more than 10-15mins of vacuum time

Miele has the advantage of not coming with the inconvenience of added Brexit. It wins on this in all categories and at all price points. I’m afraid that dyson, the notorious Singapore vacuum manufacturer, can’t hope to match the non-Brexit convenience of the Miele and therefore can only be recommended for weirdos and cosplay Victorian industrialists.
    Get a Miele

My thoughts exactly. This is such an aggressively specific comment. As an American I think I'll just buy whatever one makes the most sense for my home.
