These trips were not part of the NS 21st Century steam Program. The 21st Century steam program was intended from its inception to be a 5 year program. It ran its course and did what NS wanted, acted as a good will ambassador gor the railroad. With the 5 year period over and the image of the railroad well reflected by the program, it ended as scheduled. Increased insurance costs for passenger and steam trips certainly didnt help convince NS to keep the program around longer either.
They have them on there for HEP, and assistance with dynamic breaking or if the steam loco breaks down but other than that I agree. I would prefer to see no diesels.
There was another event much like this in 2014. There will likely be an event like this in the future, but with everything going on lately, no one will say when.
@@DynamoProductions-trains I thought someone said that this likely wont happen again even pre-pandemic lat least after 2014 becuase the company that did these events went bankrupt cause they lost money from them. Did someone else buy them or pick up the mantle or something?

6988 might be my new top 3 engine. Watching it cross those bridges, it looked so nice and serious. I want to see it in person so bad

765 ran 70 mph on Metra in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
This was the first time 765 got to run at track speed since the rebuild

Man those Chinese steam locomotives are so cool.
They put on a good show.
I don't know much about these excursions, and please don't roast me for that, but why did Norfolk Southern conclude it's steam program?

Mostly HEP. It was a hot weekend, and keeping the cars cool was a necessity.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the whistle 6988 blew/sported for much of this event a Illinois Central steamboat whistle?

Is this the city that the Rock Island Railroad got its name from?
Yes, the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific was named after the two major cities it served.
Will there be another train festival like this in the near future?
