Here's a fun fact: if you peacefully reform Iberia as Monarchist Spain, you get cores on all Portuguese states. This means that you can theoretically create the empire of Iberia-Brazil-Angola-Mozambique.
@@olivercheese8706 the opposite work too : as spain, if there is a bourbon monarch in France, and you do the focus the focus to attack france as Monarchist Spain, france get a event and if they accept, spain get core on France

"Portugal, how can that be fun?" I actually had fun as Portugal before they even got their focus tree. Back then you could invade Spain a day after their civil war and they'd have no divisions so you could go ham and unite iberia (though I don't think that update to form iberia was out yet). After that I joined the axis, took most of France and then spent a few years building battleships to invade the uk which I eventually managed. Then I killed the Soviets and what was left of China.
One of the most fun campaigns I ever had. Painted the world in that beautiful dark blue. But not without suffering. The allies pushed me out of Iberia, so like in 1809 my government had to be relocated to Brazil. It was a hard fought campaign in all continents. First I consolidated Asia, then Africa, South America, then Liberated Portugal and conquered Europe. Lastly, of course, brought the USA down. Probably my most epic campaign, evacuating troops from Mainland Europe.
Man I really wish paradox would do something about the Soviets they spent all this time focusing on them in the DLC but every single time they just can't seem to push and makes it for very boring game because there's no race to Berlin
Portugal is super fun. They have the most powerfull buffs and even the guys you can hire are pretty good. Once you integrate the colonies you get a bonus for each one. I think like 10% non core manpower and construction speed

Personally, this was one of the most fun and exciting Hoi4 videos I've seen. Such a sweet-looking empire, especially with that blue colour. Was disappointed when the monarchist historical flag went, but the colour for the land area was still there!
My favourite path is iberian socialist union, you end up making the spanish civil war way more interesting, have to compete with the japanese for influence in china, and then have to hold off the axis alone in the Pyrenees. Really fun and underrated path, would recommend it to those who haven't checked it out
@V & Z Magnus I wouldn't call it Lusophobia, but people do make fun of Portuguese are dumb and literal minded. Don't really see hate towards them either, outside of fringe groups mad about the colonization and salty about the "plundered wealth" but given how much worse Spain's colonies got I can say it wasn't that bad.
@V & Z Magnus Lol, it doesn't exist here. In fact, several Portuguese lived here for years after independence, and they are all well integrated into Brazilian society. Many Brazilian families were neighbors of some Portuguese during the 20th century, or are themselves descendants of Portuguese. You were probably unlucky to hear this from some political militant, or took a joke seriously.
@V & Z Magnus I can't confirm but I would doubt it's "extreme", there is always people with that kind of mentality, but I would highly doubt it's the norm, as a Portuguese person myself I can confirm the opposite does exist, mostly from people that have the same mentality of "our land was stolen" keeping in mind when talking about Brazil and other colonies (There is also probably some degree of that with French and British people, and just about anyone that colonized and participated in the rape of Africa).

Fun video as always. Serious moment: I think the reason you cant declare war on franco through Focuses is under the bluster he was entirely a monarchist, and since Napoleon, few monarchies declared war on other monarchs leveraging ideological differences for fear their own populations might get ideas. It's also while mustache man didnt have any intentions of restoring the monarchy and Franco literally rebuilt it from life support. Fundamentalists fall into the puritan class not zealot class of revolution, while looking the same their goals are different.
Portugal feels like one of the least thought through focus trees in the game. They have paths that don't really go anywhere. No flavor or buildup to a lot of the political paths. I remember that when the DLC first came out, we legit had no new generals and I believe just 1 or 2 advisors unique to Portugal. I'd say they have the least thought through focus tree in the game. But we still have Democratic Hungary, Italian-Hungary alliance, and the entirety of the New Zealand Focus tree.
