Lyrics
(And now for my next number, I'd like to return to the classics
Perhaps the most famous classic in all the world of music...)
The first time around, you didn't quite understand our new style of
Speak
(Don't worry, we can fix that right now)
So why don't you all just grab your bags
(Come on aboard, hoist the anchor, and we'll be off)
Plug One, Plug Two, Plug One, Plug Two
Plug One, Plug Two, Plug One
Answering any other service
Prerogative praised positively I'm acquitted
Enemies publicly shame my ability
After the battle they admit that I'm with it
Simply soothe, will move vinyl like glue
Transistors are never more shown with like
Like wind, vocal flow brings it all down in ruin
Due to a clue of a naughty noise called
Plug Tunin'
(Hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmmm)
Flock to the preacher called Pos
Let him be the stir to the style of your stew
Sit while the kid of the Plug form aroma
Then grab a Daisy to sip your favorite brew
Lettin' this soul fire be your first prior
But don't let the kick drum stub your big toe
See that the three will be your thread
But like my man Chuck D said, 'What a brother know'
Dance while I play and the cue cards sway
From my flower girls China and Jette
The button is pressed in '89 we'll start the panic
From De La Soul and a Prince from Stet
Negative noise will be all divided
Dangerous to dance, Posdnuos will croon
Ducks and kizids will all be rid
When paying position to the naughty noise called
Plug Tunin'
(Hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmmm)
Plug One, Plug Two, Plug One, Plug Two
Plug One, Plug Two, Plug One, Plug Two
Freeze cause these are the brothers
Brothers of the Soul who project a new flick
Every last viewer is tuned to the method
Known to be a method, no magicians, not a trick
Bitten by the spoken who been titled Plug Two
Swallowed by the loonies who are jealous with the showbiz
Dove'll teach the truth, Posdnuos will preach the youth
To the fact that this will bring an end to the negative
Flow to the sway cause I say fa-so-la-ti
At the top we will dwell
Difference is fame as we rise then we build
Where we are set we get fat and we swell
Motions of the Soul is a positive stride
One step forward is the space we consume
Vivid as the moon, you have yet to assume
How the Soul found the motto of a naughty noise called
Plug Tunin'
Vocal is local so believe that
This chant sends L.I. on the strong map
Trying and live so you best realize
That the gift that I present, I say gift wrap
Style of the tune is personal
And defining what's the rhyme is worst of all
Stop, sit and study cause the meaning isn't muddy
Just preach and throw the gear as the first of all
Watch while the pitcher is pitching
Cause this is the pitch of the year
Sing a simple song but keep the swing strong
Though you heard Dove crying, I ain't fearing
Those who think De La's on the flip tip
Try to flip this and you're doomed
Watch for the B-B cause if you try to grieve me
You'll be hung by the wire of the Plug Tune
(Hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmm-mm, hmmm)
(I can't twist your arm and make you stay with me)
(Are you ready for this?)

Maaaaannn, just the way these guys would think!!!! How they'd string words together to paint with lyrics.
The track that started it all. Masters from Day 1.
💯
This song holds a special spot in my heart
yup yup
Same
No doubt. Plug tunin is what made me get into producing. Was alread DJ'ing House Party's at 14 the year before but when Plug Tunin' dropped in '88 it changed everything. Didn't know nothing about studio equipment (no youtube back then lol) but somehow ended up with a Roland DR-220E Drum machine and a Tascam M-600 mixer and figured out a way to record onto tape decks before my dad gave me his reel 2 reel, just making the process up as i go....man those were some good days lol
This song was on a cassette compilation I had as a kid. It was unlike any rap cut that I'd ever heard before back then. Still my fave De La song 🎯👍💯
The creative wordsmithing on this one is without equal. Don’t we all miss the creativity and uniqueness of varied styles back then? Everything now sounds like the last chart topper.
You don't have to put other people down to compliment De La, I'm sure if you actually asked the members they would gladly bring up a list of some the modern hip hop artists they love. Tribe had a whole song about it with Dis Generation, Q-Tip even lists a few of his favorites, not even including Danny Brown, who he produced an album for. Stop living in the past, the present is exciting too
@@pepesilvia429 Calm down. We all like what we like and don’t what we don’t. There was horrid shit back then as there is today. Shit flows both ways.
I don't really get the meaning of the song but it sounds joyful, prerogative praised positively I'm acquitted.. peace and love to all
@@dramaking195lol telling him to calm down?? His message is exactly what you are saying, that we can like what we want and don't have to put others down? I don't understand the aggression towards his comment
@@dramaking195 One certainty in life is that every generation thinks that most of the succeeding generation’s music is garbage for the most part. Our grandparents thought our parents’ music was too loud, our parents called our music “noise,” and sure enough, you, too, will not understand the appeal of whatever’s current once you reach your early to mid-30s. It’s human nature, not a personal attack on taste.
I'm German. In 1990, I was 14 years old, my family and I came to the US and did a six week road trip through several states. I bought the album on cassette on a whim. We played it again and again throughout the entire trip - so it will always have a special place in my heart.
Did y’all skip over de la orgee? 😂
@@martineztony21 Yes.. yes, we did. :D
Innovators of the rhyme..How do you even think to write something like this. I remember when this song came out and we had no idea what they were saying..and now as an adult you realize how intricate and beautiful this rhyme is
lots of visual drops all of the sudden, sickk
It's good to see deep cuts like "Plug Tunin'" get the videos they deserved.
After thirty-plus years, the lyrical championship is still reflective and relevant. Long live the D.A.I.S.Y age.🌻🌻🌻🎼🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
This song takes it up a notch. Truely creative and well laid out and performed.
Pure POWER.... 🗿🙏👑
I predict this song will be opening a TV show for kids someday
It's on ninja turtles!
phenomenal song, we miss u dave
People don't give the magical genius of Prince Paul
I'm waiting for A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays" official video🤩. Vinia Mojica adds a touch of magic to this song
I love her ❤️
The flyest girl of them all
There is already one
PEACE TO DE LA SOUL. ✌👽
Wow! Lyrical mastery!....supreme poetic skills..... De La FOREVER
Still love it over 3 decades later!
Very first De La single (1988)
From the original demo of the beat by Maseo to how Prince Paul brought out all the sonics, all I can remember is this bumping in cars and jeeps. I'm laughing my head off because we all were saying the wrong words! Thank you De La Soul for your innovation. Proof point of what timeless is.
This entire album is incredible… Such a unique version of true Art, Prince Paul’s influence is all over it.
Thank you Dave. De La Forever❤
this is rap classic 💣🔥
Reasons for the rhythm is for causes unknown
Ain’t no way todays hip hop matches these lyrics and beats! De La 4 eva!!
you know it...!
This was the 1st song I ever heard from them back in like 🤔….shit 88 I think?…..fell in love with their music immediately ,it’s nice to see them getting love today, sadly Dave isn’t around to partake 😞Rock&Roll hall of time induction shouldn’t be too far off….to me at least🖤y’all be safe
Knowledge God with a sick beat ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️rip Trugoy
My childhood right here!
0 dislikes at the time I type this, de la never missed ♥
with it
De La and Prince Paul speak, a lot through the samples they use. When the sample goes "I Can't Twist Your Arm And Make You Stay With Me", that's like saying "if you can't comprehend where we're coming from after TWO versions of "Plug Tunin ", you'll never get it! LOL
👏BEAUTIFUL 👏✌💚👊
yeahhh baby :))))))))))))
Took 3 tabs of acid and watched this and made me fall in love with hip hop all over again
Yes!!! So many memories! ❤💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽🔥🎶
All Hail De La Soul

Love De la soul . I remember back in the having the de la soul design on my hair
Did he say ‘ I’ll just twist your arm and make you play with me?’ 😅 Song is still fire 🔥 🔥

Heavyweight!
Ummmhmmmmm Yeahhhh!!
The beat is so heavy 📚
sop up that sound!
9th Grade I became a fan because of this one song and a homie I ran track with new the entire song verbatim.. My song till infinity.
Definitely one of my choices for bests songs in history. The craft here is insane.
DAVE and POS are mic BEAST
Does anyone realize that this Last Chance to Comprehend is the same rhyme as the 12 inch version..but reconstructed??? This song is beautiful
Fly high dove

"Those who think De La's on the flip tip, try to flip this and you're doomed"
DLS tried to warn y'all for thinking they're soft, some heeded, some learned the hard way lol
I really do miss those samples they had to take out...
De la soul for la

I miss great HIP HOP.
👍
#thanksdave
Ultra Mag, TLarock influenced?
The album version is vastly inferior to the raw demo style 12” single version.
They both have their strong points. The Remix has elements in it the original doesn't but still keep stuff from the first one in it in places. Both versions have a sample of someone singing at the end even though different phrases. I miss the "mmm-hmmm... ye-ahh!" at the end of the choruses like the original one though. Most of those samples come from the same record too.
I am reading the lyrics and still don't understand shit.
A veritable sea change in Hip-Hop in 88 beginning with JBs then De La, setting the stage for 90s rap
Tribe was good but clearly 3rd wheel in this equation
