Cochem, Castle Christmas and Christmas Market 2023 - Germany 4k Travel Channel

In addition to the Cochem Christmas market is a Cochem Castle Christmas at the Reichsburg. The Reichsburg can be reached by a small tourist train or a bus from Endertplatz.
The Reichsburg is picturesquely situated above Cochem above the vineyards. Once built by Count Palatine, it was later administered by kings and electors. The castle was destroyed by French troops in 1789 and rebuilt as a summer residence in 1868 by Louis Ravené, a steel wholesaler and patron of the arts. After the Second World War, American troops handed the Reichsburg over to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1978, the town of Cochem acquired the castle from the state.
We visit the Reichsburg on the 2nd weekend of Advent. The Cochem Castle Christmas takes place this weekend. A living nativity play is performed, symbolically based on the events of Bethlehem.
Visitors can follow Mary and Joseph with their donkey as they search for shelter. The nativity play ends in the stable with other live animals. We show parts of it in the video. One should buy an online ticket in advance because the rush is very high. This 25-minute performance with live animals in front of an impressive backdrop is enjoyable for children but also adults.
There is a small Christmas market in the castle's rose courtyard. Before descending to the picturesque market square, we treat ourselves to a mulled wine and a small snack.
In the town, the Christmas market is spread across Endertplatz, Carlfritz-Nicolay-Platz, and Marktplatz.
Decorated stalls offer Christmas decorations, nativity scenes, tasty treats, and hot drinks.
From the banks of the Moselle, the illuminated Reichsburg Castle seems to float above the town in the dark.

Neben dem eigentlichen Cochemer Weihnachtsmarkt findet auf der Reichsburg die Cochemer Burgweihnacht statt. Die Reichsburg ist mit einer kleinen Touristenbahn oder einem Linienbus vom Endertplatz aus erreichbar.
Die Reichsburg liegt malerisch über Cochem oberhalb der Weinberge. Einst von Pfalzgrafen errichtet, wurde sie später von Königen und Kurfürsten verwaltet. 1789 wurde die Burg von französischen Truppen zerstört und 1868 von von Louis Ravené, einem Stahlgroßhändler und Kunstmäzen als Sommerresidenz wieder aufgebaut. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg übergaben amerikanischen Truppen die Reichsburg dem Land Rheinland-Pfalz. 1978 erwarb die Stadt Cochem die Burg vom Land.
Wir besuchen die Reichsburg am 2. Adventswochenende. An diesem Wochenende findet die Cochemer Burgweihnacht statt. Dabei wird ein lebendiges Krippenspiel aufgeführt, das sich symbolisch an die Ereignisse von Betlehem anlehnt.
Die Besucher können Maria und Josef mit ihrem Esel bei der Herbergssuche begleiten. Das Krippenspiel endet im Stall mit weiteren lebenden Tieren. Teile davon zeigen wir im Video. Es empfiehlt sich vorab ein Online - Ticket zu kaufen, denn der Andrang ist sehr hoch. Speziell Kindern, aber auch Erwachsenen bereitet diese 25 minütige Aufführung mit lebendigen Tieren vor der beeindruckenden Kulisse sehr viel Freude.
Im Rosenhof der Burg gibt es einen kleinen Weihnachtsmarkt. Vor dem Abstieg zum malerischen Marktplatz gönnen wir uns hier noch einen Glühwein und einen kleinen Imbiss.
In der Stadt verteilt sich der Weihnachtmarkt über den Endertplatz, den Carlfritz-Nicolay-Platz und den Marktplatz.
Geschmückte Stände bieten Weihnachtsschmuck, Weihnachtskrippen, sowie Leckereien und warme Getränke an.
Vom Ufer der Mosel aus scheint die illuminierte Reichsburg bei Dunkelheit über der Stadt zu schweben.
