Spectacled bears actually live in a variety of habitats in the Andean region, from semi-desert similar to the Sonoran desert in Peru, to wet moorlands in Ecuador, to tropical forest in Colombia, but they definitely would fit best in a mountains pack since the Andes is really the only place they live in South America

  • @Hippolf

My most-wanted South American animal is the Patagonian mara, which would have fit in the Grasslands pack but didn't make it. I think its best shot might be in some kind of Children's Zoo pack, which is a concept that seems to be divisive within the community but I think has a lot of potential.
For a highlands animal pack I'd love to see an Asian pheasant or a Himalayan monal, and for another oddball choice maybe a rock hyrax.

Most of the animals that could live in Scandinavian areas are attributed to other regions or biomes, but I'd really love to have Musk Ox and Wolverines, and maybe even Arctic Hares (complete with a changing pelt, though I doubt PZ would go that far). One of the reasons South America has less representation than the other speciose regions (Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia) is likely that there are less large animals in South America compared to these regions. Larger species are overall more represented in Planet Zoo than smaller species (and for good reason), and for larger species the only species that's missing from South America is, as you mentioned, the Andean Bear, which may not be the most popular pick since there are multiple bear species already, though that's not me saying that the species should be omitted if it fits a future pack. However, one thing to note is that smaller mammals have been getting more representation in recent packs. As such, I would like to see some more South American representation in terms of small mammals. Options could include tamanduas, Chilean pudu, two-toed sloths, ocelot, neotropical primates, and more.
In all seriousness, when I first saw the map and the title "what's missing?", I thought you were going for the need for an Antarctica pack, lol.

i tend to lean more towards build packs, and for those i really think we need a Mexico pack and a Russia pack. its really hard to build anything right now that feels authentically from Mexico city with the tools in game, much less trying to represent other parts of Mexico. For that one, I'd like to see bobcats, coyotes, sloths, tamanduas, maybe spider monkeys, definitely more cacti and desert foliage (American deserts are relatively wet), and just a whole lot more street art and graffiti. Russian architecture is kind of hard to pull since most of what we think of is USSR brutalist concrete, but I'd love to see build pieces for st. petersburg cathedral, decorative brick and wood facade pieces, etc. for animals, we don't have wolverines or walruses. I'd also love to see some yaks or muskox, palas cats, and Baikal seals. i dont think the russian one could be a pure animal pack unless we're down for a lot of ungulates, or if frontier are willing to break their ban on pure aquatic animals.

One area that I feel is still lacking is the exhibit animals, there is not enough lizard, snake, turtle, arachnids and arthropod species IMHO, especially when I make replicas of real zoos I find that is where I struggle I most to find complimentary species or the diversity of these animals. I also feel like we need another Tortoise species. Island animal Madagascar that isn't a monkey or the Fossa, Radiated Tortoise is the choice.
North America inclusion in an Island Pack... enter the Hawaiian Monk Seal.
I also feel like we might get a Drylands pack... which can put in more animals from Northern Africa in the game, which makes the African Elephant Shrew or the African Golden Wolf interesting inclusions. I think we especially need more non mammals as habitat animals. For ones there are the birds, yes everyone wants flying birds but there are many that could be implemented similary to the peafowl or crane. Just to name a few: pelikan, geese, ducks and swans, Marabu, shoebill, herons and storks, bustards, pheasants and turkeys, victoria crowned pidgeon, roadrunner and burrowing owl, Kiwki and Kakapo (those are actually flighless) As for reptiles we have almost non apart from crocodiles. They sadly already ruined the green Iguana by making it an exhibit animal, but maybe they'll compromise and give us a rhinoceros Iguana. The Perentie and water monitor would also work very well. Then there are turtles and tortoises, we just have the giant ones, but there are several smaller tortoises especially from arid environments that would work well, as well as terrapins like the arrau turtle and giant softshell turtle. Sea turtles are one of the few aquatic animals that would be executable since unlike cetaceans and manatees they actually can go on land, so it wouldn't require an overhaul of the way habitat gates work. Regarding Packs I agree on south america, rodents like the Dolichotis or the agouti would fit very well here, same as the sloth and the perviously mentioned arrau turtle. Bush dogs would also be very cool. I also could imagine a desert pack, featuring most importantly the perentie, roadrunner, pekari aswell as some desert caprine like the nubian ibex or the desert bighorn sheep and maybe some desert tortoise aswell. I chinese or japanese giant salamder would also be something I'd really like to see

I'm probably biased because it's where I live, but I really wish we had more western australia/south-western australia stuff. We're a biodiverse hotspot here, we have so many animals a lot of which are endemic to here! I can acknowledge that a lot of that is stuff like birds which might be difficult unless they bring birds to walkthroughs/do an aviary dlc, as much as I'd love to see some of our cockatoos. But there's some other stuff that could totally be added like numbats and quokkas, or for something more generally australian any of the quoll species would be a dream come true for me. I'm kind of surprised there aren't more australian reptiles represented in exhibits too, with notable well known snakes like carpet pythons, tapians or tiger snakes being missing despite all being pretty common in zoos.
My top picks for some animals you can find in/around south western australia would be numbats, quokkas, black swans, brolga, a cockatoo (maybe the red-tailed black cockatoo?), echidna, another snake and fairy penguins. There are a few different themes these various animals could fit into, for example I'd love to see a waterbird pack (if anything because of the mods you could make with a pack like that), and brolgas and black swans would both be great candidates, if we're sticking australian we have a lot of really cool native ducks too. God what I'd do for an official duck.

I'd love the tree kangaroo, but I think something from Japan would be a possibility as well, especially the serow or the raccoon dog. For the highlands pack, which I assume would be an animal pack, I'd predict the Rocky Mountain goat, alpine marmot, gelada or hamadryas baboon, spectacled bear, yellow-footed rock wallaby, takin or markhor, Pallas' cat and some sort of pheasant as a walkthrough animal. I’d think some of the non tropical flora and fauna of South America need some love in a patagonia pack. Animals can include:
    - Pudu
    - southern elephant seal
    -Patagonian Mara
-steamer ducks (we need a duck for those opening exhibits and these guys can work because they can’t fly, instead using their wings to beat up other waterfowl that wonders into their fjord.
    Lesser picks
    - nutria
    - another penguin (macaroni maybe)
    -rhea
    -Chilean flamingo
    - kodkod
    - pink fairy armadillo (exhibit)
If we need architecture maybe churches of Chiloé style can work or Andean

Let's say that we have 4 dlc in 2023. I think we will get 2 animal packs and 2 regular dlc like the last couple of years.
I hope that the first animal pack is a Tropical animal pack that includes the following animals. Red River Hog, Black Howler Monkey, Spectacled Bear, Fossa, Coati, Lar Gibbon, Ocelot and the first exhibit mammal the Sloth.
For the normal dlc I hope for a Mountains pack that includes the following. Wolverine, Hymadrayas Baboon, Bighorn Sheep, American Black Bear and the Painted Turtle.
For the second animal pack I hope for a Aviery animal pack that includes the Bald Eagle, Vulture, Falcon, Tucan, Macaw, Snow Owl, Secretary Bird and the American Flamingo.
The next dlc is a bit harder to chose but we really need the Tasmainian Devil in the game so I have to base the dlc around the Tasmainian Devil and I think that an Island pack would fit perfectly. The pack could also include the Tree Kangeroo, Kiwi, Quokkas and the Puffin.
There could be even more dlc after 2023 because there are a lot of other animals that should be in planet zoo like the Boar, Nile Crocodile, Dromedary Camel, Spider Monkey and a lot more. But these are the packs I hope for in 2023.
The anniversary animal can be one of the animals I diden't include like the Dromedary.

I really want a New Zealand centred pack - we got an Australia pack, why not NZ?
It would be a great opportunity for adding flying birds to the game, as NZ is a very bird-y place haha
They could add the kākāpō as a perfect starting place for birds as it wouldn't be too ambitious to try and implement I reckon. They're a relatively ground-dwelling bird who flies and climbs aswell, which I think wouldnt be a bad place to start.
You could also add Kiwi's, Pūkeko, Weka, Kōkako, Little brown bats, Little blue Penguin, tuatara (as an exhibit animal), Possums (even though they're more of an Australian thing but were missing from that pack) and most notably - the moa, which I'm aware is extinct but would be really cool to see. Plus if you really wanted to, cows and sheep haha
You would be able to have an almost conservation pack part 2 feel with it, with much more emphasis on adding NZ native plants to the game as we are a very nature oriented country. Plus adding NZ would be a good source of small animals which I know lots of people have been feeling we're missing.
I just feel Aotearoa New Zealand would be a perfect pack for Planet Zoo to work on and implement

Other -lands DLCs and what they could add: (Please forgive me if I re-add a species the game already has)
Badlands: A DLC about deserty animals that live near crags and mountain ranges.
Will almost definitely have a coyote and a bobcat, if birds are a thing by then, a vulture. Otherwise, badlands exist all over the world so you can probably find enough neat creatures for them. Bighorn sheep, Maras, Jackrabbits, and Kori or Arabian bustards for this one.
Shrublands: A similar ish biotype to Badlands, that doesn't evoke the wild west vibes but could include similar fauna, alongside some others. Viable animal examples include:
Elands, the other rhino, rheas, flamingos, wolves and foxes.
Woodlands: A DLC about... Forests probably, honestly. I expect a big deer and a mid-size deer alongside some assorted random creatures. Viable seeming candidates include:
Muntjac deer, Wild boar, Wisent, Wolverine, some kangaroo, a forest antelope, and the Tasmanian devil.
Moorlands: A very out of left field DLC about the moorland biome that would probably benefit from getting added after birds have made their way into the game, if that's still going to happen. Moorlands are wet upland areas of usually grasslands and woodlands. The ground is really acidic here, and it seems these environments are really susceptible to human intervention. Most animals found here are also found in other biomes so this admittedly obscure DLC not happening will hardly disqualify them. Viable animal candidates are:
Duikers, Hyraxes, White stork, Grey heron, Roe deer, Coati and the Spectacled bear can be found here.
Bushlands: A term used for dry areas more or less specifically in Australia. Basically the way to go if you want a second Australia themed DLC that really doubles down on desert creatures. Probably not the best idea for a DLC, considering chances are we'd get new species of kangaroo, monitor lizard and maybe some birds at best for this one. I guess it could be expanded to creatures who are invasive in Australia, tho.
Notable species are perenties, freshwater crocodiles, various wallabies, grey kangaroos, invasive dromedary camels, the Numbat, Bandicoots and Bilbys.

  • @reiangossling6395
    @reiangossling6395 Рік тому +1

I hope that all of the remaining biomes receive animal packs even if the game's lifespan is unlikely to last long enough. Tundra is the most underrepresented which isn't too surprising but there's still a lot of great polar animals that could be added: musk ox, wolverine, walrus, leopard seal (not realistic at all but it would be cool) and Arctic hare to name a few. Tropical and desert, however, are the two highest priority biomes given how diverse they are.
    Rainforest/Jungle/ Animal Pack:
    1. Two-toed sloth.
    2. Golden lion tamarin.
    3. Red river hog.
    4. African forest elephant (very unrealistic as well but it would be very awesome and it's the only elephant species missing).
    5. Ocelot.
    6. Lowland anola.
    7. Tamandua.
    8. King cobra or as a walkthrough species the scarlet macaw (sloth could also fit this spot).
    Desert Animal Pack:
    1. Crested porcupine.
    2. Black rhinoceros (while more associated with grasslands, it does inhabit the Namib).
    3. Dromedary camel.
    4. Greater bilby.
    5. Hamadryas baboon.
    6. Chaocan peccary.
    7. Greater roadrunner.
    8. Frilled lizard or as another walkthrough exhibit the kookaburra.
I think, though, that the island animal pack will be this spring as it would add the largest diversity to the game and each habitat species could be from a different island.
    1. New Zealand: North Island brown kiwi.
    2. Papua New Guinea: Goodfellow/Matschie's tree kangaroo.
    3. Tasmania: Tasmanian devil.
    4. Madagascar: Fossa (Coquerel's sifaka would fit a temperate forest pack).
    5. Japan: Japanese serrow or the raccoon dog.
    6. Caribbean: American flamingo or Cuban crocodile.
    7. Antarctica: Leopard seal or another penguin.
    8. Rainbow lorikeets or golden orb-weavers as walkthrough exhibit animals (the latter based on In With the Spiders at London Zoo as I saw someone suggest on the forums a while back).
A mountain pack, on the other hand, would work better as a scenery pack imo. Not only with Nepalese/Andean architecture but also a new mountain map and a few yeti-themed scenery pieces (A yeti statue and snow footprint decals would be really interesting). Pallas' cat, golden/Sichuan takin, Andean bear and gelada would be my four picks as habitat animals and the sugar glider as a walkthrough exhibit animal since it does inhabit high elevations.

I’m desperate for some type of pole cats, ferrets, minks, stoats, weasels, or my personal favourite pine martens. Honey badger is also on the list as well as hedgehogs (maybe for a petting zoo👀) and MORE BATS. One quarter of all mammal species are bats! That’s how diverse they are and we only get one?? Where are my giant bats,my tiny bats, my bats with crazy noses, my acts with crazy ears, my cute fluffy bats? In general I just think that ‘tiny’ mammals are hugely under represented when they should be included in exhibits. Would it kill anyone to give us some voles, moles, mice, gerbils, degus, squirrels? I know that they aren’t ‘big’ habit animals but they would make great exhibit animals or even petting zoo animals.

Spring - Birds of the World Animal/Scenery Pack (mix of 8 walk-through exhibits and regular ol' "aviaries" in the exhibit format with a vintage menagerie/old school zoo building set and scenery to help flesh out some of the more generic zoo pieces that we're missing - and finally get mesh roof pieces, etc.)
Summer - Islands Pack (7 habitat animals + 1 bird exhibit; animal picks are basically yours)
Fall - Tropical Rainforest Animal Pack (7 habitat animals with a skew toward South America animals and primates + 3 bird exhibits)
    Anniversary animal - Black rhino
December - Woodlands Pack (4 habitat animals + 1 bird exhibit with a North American-style log cabin/national park-type building set and scenery; porcupine as the "headliner" and wolverine because of how highly requested it is)
Highlands is 100% way more likely than "woodlands" but... This is what ~I~ want, dammit!

I agree with your desire to have the emptier areas of the map balanced out and like these suggestions -- I'd be happy with a pack with any of these! I have a preference towards more unique animals such as the takin, chamois, and fossa but there's potential there for several cohesive packs, like penguins and waterbirds and other semi/aquatics.
We still lack any rabbits or lagomorphs in general: the Sumatran striped rabbit is an island species from Indonesia that's very unique but very rare, so while I'd love it it's probably not a good candidate. If not the European rabbit, there's the riverine rabbit and red rock hare from South Africa, hispid hare from the Himalayas, and the cottontail rabbit which appears both in north and south Americas. There's also the volcano rabbit, which occurs in a very specific area in Mexico, and the Amami rabbit, which is a unique remnant species from Japan. Most of the species mentioned are endangered and easily fit into PZ's conservation theme.
For the rainforest pack, there's so much to choose from to go with the coati and red river hog: the green anaconda would be a huge unique addition as habitat animal (and set a new precedent for large snakes and a winding swimming-like motion that could precede fully aquatic animals, as it is semiaquatic); the spectacled bear would fit here; there are several species of tamarins, the harpy eagle, ocelot, burrowing owl, Darwin's fox, literally any sloth, the agouti which would fit right in with capybaras, rheas for more ratites, vicuna and guanaco, and tonnes of selection for an exhibit animal.
As an Australian I'm more partial to more Oceanic stuff, that's the rules :P I have a comprehensive list of Oceanic animals as a wishlist a few months ago, we've since gotten a few of them:
    reddit.com/r/PlanetZoo/comments/ybso2k/comment/itjmkqg/?context=3
There's not much for Northern Europe that isn't already in the game as just European, since many are wide ranging (such as the bears), but we could also use the saiga, wapiti, wisent, bezoar, bearded and griffon vultures, sea otters and sea eagles, auks, puffins, swans (a great thematic match with other semiaquatic birds including the ones already in the game), and lemmings while tiny would be an interesting addition similar to the other tiny mammals.
If we could include Pleistocene/recently-extinct animals, the list for Northern Europe would be VERY spicy, as it'd include a lot of incredible mammoth steppe fauna that has not lived to the Anthropocene! The aurochs only died out about 400 years ago, for example. I don't think they fit PZ's overall theme much, though, they'd be a better fit for Prehistoric Kingdom which already has two.
Central Asia has tonnes of options to fill out its region, perhaps controversially the wild bactrian camel instead of the semi-feral domestic we have in the game. There's the onager, Mongolian wild ass, corsac fox, a couple different martens and markhors, mountain hare, a couple grey wolf subspecies, Arabian sandcat, urial, desert monitor, a bunch of smaller reptiles that would fit as exhibit animals. Tonnes of birds, such as the pelicans, rails, owls, raptors, Demoiselle crane, etc.
THEORETICALLY, Frontier can repurpose the walk-through exhibit mechanics to make aquariums, just without the walking through. Those could be used for fish, which Antarctica has tonnes of. The walkthrough exhibit size is decent for a small to medium commercial aquarium tank. Hell, it might be possible to reskin it with mods and turn it into an aquarium.
Most of Antarctica's fauna is marine or semiaquatic, with few land species. It's mostly seals, cetaceans, fish, and penguins and other ocean-going birds like albatrosses, all of which would make unique additions.

I was surprised by how few animals there were. I have not all the packs, only around 4 and I was going to start a zoo with the plan of using animals that is in my homeland as I had put my zoo in Sweden so I thought that would be easier since I didn't have to focus on temperature control.
I had expected some animals, such as the moose, artic fox, lynx, any bat (we have around 16 different species of bats), musk-ox, different species of seal and much more, or at least a few to be in the game as it would be perfect to try out the controls while handling a smaller zoo.
Needless to say, I could only find Timber wolf from the nordic countries. Not even the Reindeer was given to Sweden despite the natives of Nordic countries such as Sweden (the Sami) being famous for their reindeer herding. It instead said there were reindeers in Denmark though which is not true as they don't have the right climate for reindeers. I can only guess the game developers couldn't differentiate between the countries as that is a common problem.
I was also surprised that you couldn't pet the reindeers, but then again, the only reindeers I know of is the one the Sami raising and they are more or less tame. They even drag sleds for the Sami.
Well, I quickly had to reimagine my zoo but I was rather suprised. It made me wonder if the base game only had around 7 animals. I'm not sure how to feel about that, especially consider the many bugs and problems I have encountered in the game.

    - Barn Owl
    - Peregrine Falcon
    - Scarlet Macaw
    - Common Raven
    - Arctic Tern
If there were 7 animals added, I think that they would be:
    - Sulphur Crested Cockatoo
    - Pileated Woodpecker
Because we are taking an animal off of our previous list if we were doing 7 animals, the following animal is a reserve:
    - Andean Condor
    Release Order:
The release order would look something like this:
    - Late March - Early April: Meadows Pack
    - June - August: Biome Animal Pack (preferably desert)
    - September - October: Islands Pack
    - December: Aviary Animal Pack (if Aviary animals are added to base game)/Biome Animal Pack
I hope you guys enjoy this list! Please give me your ideas!

they probably wouldnt do it but i would love to see a reptiles pack with like the nile crocodile, chinese alligator, and maybe some snakes and lizards, and possibly a sea turtle. If they did a rainforest pack or like an amazon pack id also really like to see the black caiman.

Another few mammals could be good, stuff like the fisher, wolverine, and pine marten.

You read my mind. I definitely asked where the Andean Bear was when I bought the game. I would also really like to see the Tasmanian Devil and the Fossa. I also think that the Javan Rhino would fit well in an islands pack.

I think that Frontier can put Tapires in Planet Zoo beacuse in South America there aren't too many animals.

Sounds like they are doing Biomes so I’m thinking maybe Rainforest animal pack is coming or any of the other Biomes.

Europe needs more representation. Whether it be in a Highlands pack, or a temperate pack, or even farmyard pack

Still waiting for more birds personally- I don't care if they fly or not- peacocks, cranes & flamingos all fly yet are in the game, so they could just do something similar with other birds & I'd be happy!
    My picks are-
New Zealand: Kiwi & Kea- both well represented in zoos globally, one is flightless & the other spends a lot of time on the ground being the worlds only alpine parrot.
PNG: Victoria Crowned Pigeon- again well represented in zoos & spends a lot of time on the ground.
Africa: Secretary bird- well represented in zoos & seems to be quite a popular zoo animal globally speaking.
Asia & rest of the world: Dalmatian pelican, Demoiselle crane, Fuegian steamer duck or Mute swan/ a swan of some type as a couple of wading bird options.
The exhibit animal could be anything with the introduction of the walk through version exhibits & bats- hummingbirds would probably be the most popular, but a bird of paradise species or even Parrots, Finches, Doves or Quail would be cool as options.
That would cover most of the continents in game as well as give a diverse range of habitats- temperate forest, grassland, desert, alpine, rainforest, wetlands depending on what was included.
My list of most wanted animals in the game is now basically down to Kiwi, Kea, Tree Kangaroo, Aardwolf & Fossa.
I'll be super disappointed if we don't get some decent bird species & at least a tree Kangaroo, but tbh having some other spice picks like Yellow-throated martens, Echidna, Coati, Pallas cat &/or Jaguarundi would be pretty cool as well & help keep game play interesting.
Basically birds in any form & some of the more unique or unusual smaller zoo animals to add a bit more diversity to the more standardized zoo species will keep me invested & spending money on DLCs lol.
