We Finish The Peacock Pen! Life at our Remote Scottish Homestead - Renovation Project
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2023
- At last we finish building the daytime enclosure that will keep our peafowl safe when we're away from the homestead. It will also be useful to keep the broody peahens in to stop them nesting away from home - we don't want any more chicks! And handy if needed to keep the chickens in for whatever reason. An all round useful, moveable enclosure!

I'm pretty sure that there is nothing you two can't do.
By far, my favorite UA-cam'ers. Thank you both for bringing such joy!
✌❤🙏
Aw, thank you! xx
" I totally agree . You are so logical and talented .🙂 👍"
I loved it when Blue was bunting his head against the camera & rubbing against your legs. I have three girl cats and enjoy the way they show affection. My middle girl, Smoky, loves to "style" my hair...with her teeth & now her claws digging into my scalp (Ouch!). Gotta love 'em. The shwoos looked like they've given their new digs their pecks of ashwooval. I have to ask, where did y'all get the breaker bar (?) (for lack of a better term) that you used on the pallets? It looks like something very handy to have around the house.
You ladies are a shining example to women everywhere, showing just how much we females are capable of if we set our minds to doing it.
Love and hugs to you both Gail and Alex. Take care and see you again soon in your next video.
you guys should hang some ribbon on the wire so the birds dont fly into it and harm themselves ,just a thought.
Those peacocks are very smart they check out every thing that you are doing😅❤
I love the way you don’t cut corners and make sure things are done right even if it takes extra time. Lovely historic home and property you have. Very lucky family. I wish you all the best-Lisa from Ayden,North Carolina USA.
I agree with you about how well Gail and Alex build things. They're talented put togetherers. Howdy from New Bern, NC, here in Craven County. It's nice to come across someone from my neck of the woods who shares an interest in life across the pond.
I love how curious and social the Shwoos are.
Congrats on getting it done. Lots of hard work pays off, 2:34 along persistence amazing how much of that you two have. Blessings to you both
Love this new series! Amazing home you have. The scenery is gorgeous.
❤
There is no end to your talent Ladies! It was a great finishing touch to the Shwoo’s house by painting it green. It looks lovely.🤩
Thank you so much! xx
Oh my goodness, y'all work so hard! I hope the Schwoos are happy in their new digs.❤
You two are amazing! You have accomplished so much all by yourselves! We are proud of you. You are one of my two favorite video producers. Donna Michigan
You are living a wonderful life!!
I love women who can make do...im almost 70 and that's the way I was raised...well done, you two!
Zip ties sure are handy things! Enjoy seeing how curious your birds are.
I just thought that I’d share something about wooden pallets with you.Our kitchen has three dressers made from reclaimed pallets plus also two tables...... one for our kitchen and one for our back garden. We’ve had them for many years and they’re still going strong. Our two cats,Janet and violet love to try sharpening their claws on them!!! Love and hugs from Jo in England 🏴.xx
What an amazing talent you both have past down from your parents Gail...runs in the family for sure😊❤
2 girls can do.....well done! Looks great.
There is absolutely nothing you two can’t do! Well done!
You both are so creative and indomitable. You have a problem and you figure out a solution. Impressive skills.
Thanks!
Thank you so much, Beth! That's so kind of you! We'll put it towards our chicken coop refurb xx
WOW!! That was alot of work ladies!! Great job well done! It looks awesome and like I said before " I would have left it in the box " LOL but true to form you stepped up and perservered and got it done. Great stuff!! :) :) Loved it all!!
That’s a house fit for a Shwoo king 👑 and Queen ❤
Good job on that dust bath. When it’s hot, they’ll probably get in the wet sand and other stuff to cool off. You and your mom can do anything. 😊
Awww..
They love their new pea house...so funny taking it in turns in the sandbox...so rewarding for you all.. great job. ❤❤❤😊
I love watching your videos. You're living the life that a lot of us can only dream of. So thank you for that ❣️🙏
Y'all are very competent and use ingenuity both to fix the problematic engineering and in hauling around a massive concrete drinking bowl. When Alex started spray-painting, my initial thought was, "Why bother?". Then I immediately changed to, "Well, it's never a bad idea to paint things.' A moment later and I was, "That's a nice shade of green: it looks really good green." By the way, that is quite a nifty pallet-breaking bar you've got! I've broken down a few pallets in my day and can attest it's not as easy as it looks.
Finally, I hope I'm not the only one who couldn't not say, "Hello!" in a slightly high-pitched voice when Blue head-bumped the camera.
Hello Gail and Alex! Congrats on an excellent job, it looks absolutely fantastic!! Like how you painted it green too. What a great addition to have and it looks like the Shwoo's love it as well. Loved the mirror...everyone needs a mirror to make sure we don't ever have a feather out of place!🤣Have a wonderful weekend...Big ((Hugs)) and Love from Texas!🤗💙🦚💚
Great job on completing the peacock pen! Now they will be safe when you ladies are away!
A JOB WELL DONE if I do say so myself.
Yay! You gals did it. Despite the engineering flaws, you worked through them and made it work. Happy birds! 😊
I am just renovating my dads house and I feel for you...
About the wobbly hinges: buy some matching screws and nuts. Otherwise you might find yourself annoyed for all times (or as long as the pen lasts). Good job ladies!
I am impressed to what you did to the door to make it longer! That gives me hope in any future projects I might have. Not so much the door for me, but something that needs the love you put into your home and animals home. Just amazing ladies ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
What a pretty cat.
Hi Gail and Alex I have loved watching the Diaries and i love the shwoos, so clever the both of you to turn your hands to anything its inspiring me to maybe not jump in so quick and get someone to do it for me and to at least have a go. I also love your mudlarking and have recently started collecting seaglass and couldnt believe to find my first volcanite bottle stopper that has whitbread on it that was washed up on a welsh beach and if it wasnt from watching you i would have never known what it was so thank you xx
Well done both of you. Stirling work, good job you both didn't wander off the village too.
Dear Gail and Alex, you are both amazing! I think the Schwoovals are going to love this pen. It will keep them safe during the day when you have to go out.
You should put a teeter todder in there..I get they'd love to climb up and go down the other side.
Well done on finishing the pen…another great episode ,
You could add some rubber from an old inner tube to stop the hinges turning xx
I don't know how you ladies get any work done with that major distraction of a little poppet cat😂😍
A pair of ex Brits following you in your journey from Western Canada.
The new pen looks wonderful !
It is so great to see you all living your best life. The Shrews are so entertaining to watch.
You should write to the company that made the pen and tell them all the problems you had and how you had to take time to fix them and you want a refund and that their product is inferior.
You too both are hard working determined get’er done women! Aww that great feeling of accomplishment! 👏🏼👏🏼
You put a shade roof on! Great work, ladies!
I look forward to these updates every week, thank you. 🙂🌈🐈🐈⬛💖
You are so inspiring! Watching your videos helped me tackle a huge project of my own with renewed energy! Thank you💐🦋💐
That's fantastic - hope it goes well for you! xx
I can’t help but think of your male peacock as “Fu Man Schwoo!” 😂
Great work on the new Schwoo pen. 🙂
I love watching your videos, and really do admire the tenacity you both show to get the job done. I also find that I get a smile on my face from reading your reply's to some of the comments (Note to self, never pick an argument with these ladies or tell them how to do something)😉😂😂
Two suggestions, you could try holding the head of the bolts for the hinge clamps with "Vice Grip" style pliers while tightening the nuts. It may get you what you need to secure them. Secondly weaving a single strand of wire through the overlap of the various mesh panels would hold them securely closed. You two are amazing.
No room to hold the bolts with anything - that was the trouble. We sewed the wire together with wire that came with the kit
I'd just spend the few pennies it would cost to buy a new nut, and bolt with washer. What came with the kit seems mis-matched. As long as you measure the hole the bolt has to go through you should easily be able to replace what you have with a better fitting solution. You've done great work so far. Good for you!
Great job 😅😮😊 but you aways do ❤❤❤
You worked so hard on that ladies well done ❤❤
You made a lovely job of the pen and they seem to like it. Loved the video as usual and its nice to have something interesting to watch on a Sunday evening.
Alex I hope those spoilt schwoos appreciate all your hard work
Your videos often depict great, natural beauty. They are remarkable.
Mudlark construction, no job is to tough, no challenge is to demanding
Everyone looks cozy and settled in. Thanks for the journey 👏👏
😃🥰🦚🦚my coffee flavored with pumpkin spice cream & my peanutbutter sandwich... while watching my favorite Ladies, life is Great! Live for the moments you cannot put down in words xoxox
Your coffee sounds great! x
Good recovery! The varying tensions created by the wire and zip ties on the large frame probably made the door discrepancy inevitable.
Thanks! It was the door itself that was the wrong size however ☺️
Well done, Ladies. Showing your ingenuity. As they say, "Necessity is the mother of invention". : ) A bit of Diatomaceous Earth and wood ash is a perfect addition to the dusting bin, refreshing it with wood ash periodically. We always put the ash out in heaps, instead of smoothed out, so our chickens, ducks, peacocks and any other feathered friends could nestle into it easily to fluff. : )
Yes, that's what we've done =)
You go girls !! I love how you fix a problem yourself,s Just great , but also just a suggestion instead off
haveing to drill more holes in to keep the looks & brackets sturdy how about putting a zip tye under them so they can’t slip! Any l absolutely love your little Chanel & the peacocks 🦚 ❤
You ladies are quite the carpenters. It's a joyful watch.❤ Deb C. Pa. USA
shrews inspecting your work Alex was so adorable lol, think you got their approval, well done xx
❤Luv ya bunches, Alex and Gail ❤
It turned out wonderfully. I think the shroos agree. They even like their sand box
Poor schwoos no longer able to roam free. But I know they are safer.
We say in the video that this cage is just to keep them safe when we go out - they roam free every day
Hi Gail and Alex….your work has been so lovely to see. You are so kind … your beautiful birds will be so safe I’m so impressed with your work and kindness … they are such amazing lovely birds! I cried for days when your “white” went missing….so felt for you both and now to see this it’s heartwarming … keep safe and lovely as always…greetings from California 🌼
I love how they have to check everything out after you put it in there new house.
You two are amazing. Please hang something on the wire that blows in the wind to stop birds from flying into it ❤. Thank you

Well done ladies, problem solved and looks great. Take care and thank you for sharing 👏🙏❤️
You beautiful ladies never cease to amaze me. So smart and lots of ingenuity. Love your videos. I think the swoos will enjoy their new home.
Lovely job ladies. Happy shwoos.
How can you not adore birds that are SO inquisitive?
Hi, well done loved watching you build the bird pen, you should hang some perches. Alex loved watching you recycle the pallets and make the dusting box. ❤🎉🎉
Am I the only one that is basically just watching this because of Alex' beautiful hair?☺
Great job fixing the pen door ladies, and love the sand box Alex, one thing I have noticed is that your schwoos are so very inquisitive and beautiful of course, tfs x Julie
I’ve never seen a more curious bird 🐦
I believe birds like to dust bathe in wood ashes, I believed it’s a natural deterrent to mites too.
You’ve done a fantastic job ladies, who needs men aye 😊 although I did notice your brother (I think) came out to inspect lol.
As always extremely watchable
So pleased you finally got to finish the Schwoos new home.
You might want to give consideration to a fox or other prey animal digging under the enclosure if your birds ever spend the night in it. Great job! You both are awesome critical thinkers & problem solvers. Love your channels!❤🇨🇦
We said, it's for daytime use only
Glad you have a section covered for weather protection - smart move getting them a mirror to appreciate their beauty!
Chateau Shwoo! Well done, ladies.
Well done looks fantastic
Well done! Your modifications were genius. It came out great. 😊
Good idea to add that piece of tarp on the roof! Sun and rain shield.
Tried to leave a comment on your latest planting video which was love a pleasure to watch but it looks like its gone private and wouldnt allow me to leave you a comment or like the video. 😊❤
I swear, I thought you said you were building a guest bath! I was thinking if people were coming over to watch the Shwoos and they might have to take a break. Then, when you went over to the pen, "dust bath" made so much more sense! I love this new channel! J wish I could be there to help. But, you two are unstoppable. But, I'd have snapped up brother while he was there!
Love your teamwork 👍Thank you Ladies for sharing 🦚🦚🦚🦚
The pen is excellent and you've made it their own. If you have any leftover chicken wire perhaps you can make a 🦚 topiary frame for one of your wonderful planters
These videos help me relax. Thank you ladies for making them! Also, I really like those cargo pants you are wearing Gail!
Youse have done an awesome job. Youse can turn ur hands to anything. 👍
It’s fun to watch how the male’s feathers are growing out!
Yeeaay sorted !! Brilliant, what satisfaction with a job well done. The shwoos overseeing the job, and now well settled in. They are very quizzy creatures and make me laugh. Thanks for sharing ......Alioban
Congratulations you finished the pen!!
They such beautiful and curious birds. The pen looks awesome.
This series is delightful. What do you do to keep foxes from digging under the schwoo pen ?
My thought as well. Not sure what other predators might dig and cause an issue, but once in, the birds are trapped and easy prey. The ladies are hard workers!
Don't drop them cable ties this time 😂
I used some of the white nylon zip ties to put a trellis up in my veggie patch. After 2 years it perished in the sun and the trellis came down. This year I bought stainless steel zip ties. I will see if it lasts 2 years.
Have you two done any videos explaining how you got this house, its' history, your overall plans for it? I love old houses and history and renovation videos and would love to know anything you are comfortable sharing!
