Beer and Sandwiches

Today is the 32nd anniversary of the end of the longest strike in ITV's history.
I've rather shot my bolt as commemorations go, since I uploaded the footage I found of the return of the service in 1979, a while back.
Going through various tapes earlier, I did find some seventies' strike-related captions from both the BBC and ITV, so they will have to suffice.*
It's all a bit childish really, and the music I've chosen is such an obvious choice it's embarrassing but I quite like it and I am a fully paid-up member of the WGGB.
* Just to be clear - the short black and white sequence at the end is a recreation.

The BBC2 'Empire Road' caption is from around November 1978, when they had problems introducing an earlier weekday evening schedule (when they'd previously only shown OU programmes or sport). All the BBC Christmas captions are from 22nd or 23rd December 1978.
It's quite strange to look back on how many people on both sides didn't get the irony of "Part of the Union" - workers on strike sang it, and Tory MP Harold Soref (can you believe it, a Jewish ex-Mosleyite) called for it to be banned.

I rented my first video recorder two days before the ITV strike. A brand new toy with nothing to worthwhile record!

Well, there was two BBC channel. IT's better than one channel that doesn't broadcast

I remember the ITV strike of 1979.Their best ever output.
