    Giant Ibis actually has wifi service on both sides of the border. He did not need to use the data for the bus ride... It was more for having internet once you get off the bus.

      That's good to know. I have to make a visa run in a few weeks and my Viet sim drops out as I approach the border. I'll steal the wifi from the bus!

    $150 for a 30 day visa?
    That's $5 per day. You can get a 12 month visa for Cambodia for under $300 and that's a multiple entry visa.

      I have one of those now in Cambodia. But a lot of people just want to stay in Saigon and the busses fill up for this trip daily there with foreigners who just want to stamp out and come back. The visa in Vietnam is now 90 days.

    Currently in Saigon. Does your friend Henry have a video or UA-cam channel about doing the visa-run from Saigon to the Moc Bai border?

    • @FollowBrando
      @FollowBrando  Рік тому +1

      He doesn't as far as I know. If you have the time, you might just head over there and talk to him about it and plan the trip for another day so that you've got everything ready to go. You'll get a different opinion from everyone you ask about it. The cheap people take the city bus. Those that have done it themselves before will tell you not to pay anyone. A friend of mine did it that way (by himself with cheap bus tickets). He speaks vietnamese and he was super confused.

      There's definitely a dead zone for mobile service although Giant Ibis is the busline I prefer after having tried many over the last two years. The busses all have pretty good wifi - you may lose it when the bus is in the frontier zone though.

    How long have you been doing this for? I heard visa run were working well before but not really a thing anymore (I heard this for Thailand actually). Wouldn't it be a problem if done several times? Have you heard of anyone having issues doing this (nightmare scenarios etc..)?

    • @FollowBrando
      @FollowBrando  Рік тому

      You can keep doing it (as a US Citizen) as long as your passport is valid for more than 6 months and has blank pages for the stamps. My Indian friends have had trouble at this particular border crossing. Cambodian immigration wanted to see proof they had money in the bank. I've been doing the visa runs for a year now.

    For Americans doing Vietnam to Cambodia visa run, do we just show up at the cambodia border and say i want a visa? or do we have to get the cambodia visa in advanced? i already know how to get vietnam visa... thank you ... please help

    • @FollowBrando
      @FollowBrando  Рік тому

      So you could get your Vietnam visa in advance like I did and then just take a grab car or motorbike or bus to the border and walk up and pay for your Cambodian visa. The service I used made it a bit less uncertain because a guy on the bus handles it all. You just sit and wait with the others in your group. Bring $USD whether you do it alone or use a bus service like I did in the video.

      @@Chillvibesguy29 Haha oh you mean living on constant visa runs? Yeah, it's a thing many expats get caught up in, going back and forth between countries or doing runs to the border. Thailand gives you 45 days upon entry then you can extend pretty easily for 30 days. That's a pretty good amount of time to try the place out. And the educational visas here are easy too if you can pay about $800 for the year to take Muay Thai or cooking class. Vietnam is pretty tight with the rules tho so it's 30 days for most visitors.

    Way too troublesome and way too expensive. If I pay 150 USD to cross the border I might as well stay there.
    Giving your passport to the driver when crossing a border is pretty common when traveling by bus. But I have to say I always feel anxious too, even in Europe.

    I'd also be freaking if I didn't know where my passport was. Not worth the hassel IMO. Watched a youtuber who did that run and didn't use an agent. He had to haggle with the Cambodian official re the amount of bribe. Not pretty. Why don't you have a Vietnamese sim card?

    • @FollowBrando

    • @FollowBrando

      @@hoa-mpls2422 I would imagine that both sides of the border are taking a cut of the bribery money but you only pay the bus driver $40 total (in US notes). Doing the visa run through the airport doesn't involve any of the grey market bribery stuff, which is why I prefer - and would recommend - that method.

    Cambodia also has an eVisa scheme. $60 total for the Khmer and Viet visas. For the money you paid for that bus, you could have got a private car there and back. There is zero need to bribe anyone at either border, stop making out you have to. Only an idiot hands over their passport to god knows who.
