Renovating Our Local Parks Playground

- Our small rural community teamed up to save over $35,000 on our awesome new playground build. This video is all about how it was done and what it took to complete the project in just 4 days.
We were thrilled to work with the community on this build! The volunteers did a fantastic job, it's great to see everyone come together to create a safe and exhilarating play experience for the kids.
The playground has been a tremendous hit for the kids, parents and grandparents of Harlan! We felt fortunate to work with a company that was willing to provide a "Community Build" option and provided such an excellent Project Supervisor. Thanks for the great equipment and thanks for checking out the video!
This is a prime example of why "more hands less work" is a great mentality
Its really nice to see a company that has an option to hire a project manager to work with a crew of volunteers instead of having to hire an entire crew to install their equipment. Speaks volumes about their commitment to community and not just the bottom line.
Absolutely! We chose Miracle Playgrounds from the other bids on this project because they offered this option.
Thinking the same pretty amazing considering the cost of everything!
This is nice to watch! I volunteered and donated $15,000 from our family to build one of our newer parks. Absolutely loved working with the city engineers, and contractors.
We didn't have the luxury of redirecting funds or the option to "hire" out volunteer work forces. But anything that wasnt machinery, 100 volunteers did.
ADA also worked close with us to be ADA compliant, even had the ADA brach director shoveling stone.
What a community can do for itself is up to the community. Proper permits, and money, municipalities wont usually fight. Everyone should raise a voice in their community! Theres funds dedicated in each municipality for these jobs, but it goes in another account until voices speak. If not, the money disappears.
Great job crew!
I'm glad kids have the option to play outside.
Now we just need parents to encourage going outside.
Small communities are great.
The big city is hard to bring together the people that care enough to volunteer.
👍
Always a good day when you post!
What a fantastic community effort. Nice to see a couple generations of big kids "playing" in the dirt so that multiple generations of little kids can have a fun, safe place to play.
It is awesome to see a playground i delivered being installed. I dont get to see that very often, so thank you Neil for recording the process and posting it. It was a blast to help you all unload it off the trailer.
Hey Zach! Thanks for your help that day. I'm glad you found the video. Thanks for saying Hi!
It was special to see all of the older members who came out to help!
Couldn't have done it without them.
It's amazing to see what a people can do when they put their hearts, labor and money to use that benefits the entire community.
So many great comments here already, not much left to say. I don't even live near there, but was filled with pride for the accomplishment you all did on this project. It's just heartwarming to see a community pull together for the benefit of their children. Great job everyone! I loved the editing, Neil.
Thanks so much! Trent helped me a lot with the edit on this one!
Such a great investment in your community, by investing in your youth. If more communities and towns took the time to do similar projects for their kids, the country would have a much richer environment. The sprit of volunteers doesn't ask "What's in it for me?" but rather they know how big a smile it puts on their own faces when they see their kids enjoying the fruits of their labor.
Great comment. Thanks!
Very cool. That seems like some well built equipment that will serve your commissions for years to come.
Working in construction and participating in volunteer activities myself, I couldn’t help but wonder how many “alright, let’s go to lunch” jokes were made when handing up and supporting a piece before securing were made.
Really enjoyed watching this one, Neil. Catch you next time!
Thanks Andrew. Yeah there was plenty of food spirited ribbing going on! 😁
We lived in Greenfield, Indiana for awhile and it's true the Indianans have a strong sense of community you've seen in this video. It was as if the whole town evolved around children, good place to raise a family. 👍
Nice job....awesome to see your community come together for the kids. This is a good reminder there are still good folks in this world!!
Thanks Duane
More than a mouthful has already been said and my 2 cents is great project, great video and what looks like a great bunch of people to come together and build something for the kids. We, my wife and I both love your videos and please keep them coming. We always look forward to Sundays by watching your videos and then getting ready for church. Peace
Thanks Curt. That means so much.
When I was a kid I remember we collected Campbell's soup labels to turn in for playground equipment. kudos to Juan to be able to oversee such a large group of volunteers and get the project completed on schedule.
That'd be a lot of soup labels! That's very cool!
@@digdrivediy yes, that was a long time ago. We never had fancy equipment like your park got, but it was great fun. When my kids were in grade school it was box tops that the PTA collected to get things for the playground.
It’s like a Amish barn raising for kids. Good job.
You guys work like a well-oiled machine everything was done properly
Community, that's what it's all about. Great job.
This is fantastic! Our son played baseball on the Harlan Park Little League team. I will have to take my grandkids to play on the new playground! Thank you for giving back to the community!
Great 👍🏻
Great to see all the Koch's pitching in. The playground looks fantastic. Great group of people volunteering their time!
Thanks Jason 👍🏻
Looks beautiful! Great job to all involved. What a great company also to allow and support a community build option. This is what we all need more of.
Yes very true. Thanks so much!
Really awesome seeing a community come together for the kids! Now I have a whole new appreciation for community parks. Also kudos for the merry-go-round! Too many people are getting rid of those, and they are the best thing on a playground
Thanks Corey!
Neil, you are the epitome of what a father/husband should be. I hope your girls and wife know what they have. Nice job bro.
Park looks great and looks like all the kiddos enjoyed it.
Congratulations everyone! You have a united community that has done an excellent job.
Thank you
you all should be very proud of a great job.i think Juan was a big key to getting it done without a lot of extra work.i had my grandkids watch this and they want to come test it out.
Hope they can test it out!!!
Yeah, we couldn't have done it without Juan!
I loved seeing you, your family, your neighbors coming together to do this project. I know it is not 5he first time all of you have gotten together to work on the park.
Hi Neil, that was great! Given how long the original playground was around, your grand childen and probably great grand children will be playing in that playground. Having the coordinator on site must have been a great help. Imagine if the equipment was delivered with only a book of instructions! Thanks for the video!
-mike
We couldn't have done it without him! Thanks for the kind words!
You guys are so great. All the best Neil
So good to see a community come together.
What a wonderful park! The children in the area are extremely lucky to have you guys build this new park. I couldn’t help notice the age of most of the men helping. They all want a safe fun playground for their children and grandchildren. I’m not at all surprised you finished ahead of schedule after all it wasn’t a government job.
Ha! Yeah, a few of them helping everyday were over 80!
Awesome job Neil and extended Harlan family.
It is so wholesome to see that this still exists.......
I was unexpectedly touched by this video. Thanks for sharing the story. "A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit."
Thanks so much!
Great content as always. Neal the community you live in is awesome and great to see so many chipping in.
Please thank them and give them a large pat on the back.
Way to go!!
Thanks Donald!
Awesome job folks of Harlan. It is great to see a community come together to accomplish such a huge task. There are few and far between that would do or do what you all did. You have a special town there, be proud of it. Thanks for sharing Neil...
Great job, should be proud. Loved the wife’s smile sitting on the bench.
This is what America is all about! Hard work! Community! And love for each other. I could go on for an hour. But I’ll say this is truly amazing stuff. I needed to see this. With all the crazy things happening in our country today, this reminds me that there are still true Americans in this country.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤘👍🙏🥹
Thanks that means a lot.
Good to see a community coming together to make improvements.
Great work everyone.
Awesome you had so much help. And the weather was with you. Thanks be to God.🙏
👍
As you've mentioned, I think having Juan there sped things up greatly! That way there is no time wasted discussing where to start, or how to do this or that, or other divisions. Great job done by all! Thanks for sharing. 😁👨🚒
Yes for sure. Juan made it possible to be done in 4 days. It would have taken weeks most likely otherwise!
Another excellent video of how a community can be small but has such pride to make big things happen. What a priceless asset to have Juan to make it so easy to keep it moving along efficiently and made all the volunteers feel that they were a valuable asset just as Juan.
Thanks so much Mike. Juan was great 👍🏻
Can’t love this enough! Love it when a community comes together to make things happen!
Great job Harllen! Best community project I've seen.
What a community, a town full of heroes, a wonderful place to be and live. Well done to all of you, absolute legends the lot of you. ❤❤❤❤
I came to see what your channel was all about (referred by Captain Kleeman) and hit this video first. I love watching things get put together and I agree with your project coordinator, you had a great team with tremendous support behind the scenes. That touched my heart …especially cool during these hostile and hateful times. Awesome…simply awesome !!
Thanks so much for coming over to check it out!
how great would it be if we could get the bone heads in Washington to work together as well as your team did. great job and a big atta boy to all of you.
The whole project from start to finish is a real credit to the community and looks fantastic Neil.
That was awesome , wonderful community spirit. Im gonna bet there’ll be no damage no graffiti or any rubbish left there . Sadly we don’t see as much great local projects like this anymore.
That's one heck of a playground! Good work Harlan!!!
That's an awesome playground. If all communities came together like that, a lot of our societal issues would go away. Y'all are very fortunate Neil. Great job by all involved.
Thanks so much BD! I hope it's around for the grandkids!
Great community effort and great playground company that caters to volunteer construction! Well done everyone!
Loved this story! Good on you for donating your skills, equipment and great attitude and personality!
Thanks Doug!
Well done to you and the community.
Looks great! And it’s great to have a community come together.
That’s awesome! Small town America at its finest!
That playground is sweet!! Amazing work, great group of people it looks like!
You gotta love rural America, there`s no such thing as a lazy farmer, to knock that out in 4 days, was incredible, I almost had a tear in my eye, at the end, when the first kids tried it out, love what you guys are doing, for the better of the community, awesome.
Thanks Joe. That means a lot!
Heartwarming Neil. 😊 It looks great.
Still hope out there... thank you for sharing
I think I've seen all of your videos and this is probably the best one yet.
this is the wholesome youtube i am here for.
I wish I lived in a community like that.
What the Harlan community completed in such a time frame is absolutely fantastic! Just WOW! All of the volunteers have created something really special in your neck of the woods. All are to be commended for their hard work and dedication and "Can Do" attitude.
Fantastic video work and drone footage. Thank you Neil and what's his name. Sorry, I really can't remember who is helping you edit but he deserves some recognition for helping you put this amazing video together!
Can't wait to see you in the next one!
Hey thanks Susan!
You're right though, Trent helped me to put this all together! He shot most of it and we had a lot of footage to go through.
It was fun despite how much work it was.
Thanks so much for watching!
Good job by all on and off camera. 👍🌞🐝
Hello Neil. I hope the young people were included in the volunteers. If so, they will have a larger sense of appreciation for the equipment. And speaking of equipment, I rarely if ever see a front dump concrete truck here in the inland northwest. They were almost the norm when i lived in the northern Indiana and Ohio area. Not out here for whatever reason.
Those front discharge trucks are great. I don't know why anyone would want to use a rear discharge knowing these exist! 😁
Awesome project. 🎉 Mulch barrier and tennis court fence for those certain "older kids" with their spray paint.
What an undertaking this was Neil. Love seeing the community come together to support this project. Thanks for taking us along.
Appreciate it Chris!
Pretty awesome to be able to get the community together and complete some back breaking work. Over multiple days might I add.
A+ and two 👍👍
Thanks Adam
Truly an inspiration!!
You are correct having a seasoned project manager like Juan is invaluable for projects like this. From the way to lay things out, to using packaging for garbage bags, but it all comes back to the skills of the men and women that assemble it. Pretty rare for suburbanites and city folks to have the work ethic, tools and equipment to get a job like this done themselves. Harlan is proud of all of you that contributed to the park your grandkids will most likely be able to play on.
Thanks. Boy, I hope so. It would be cool to be watching the grandkids here and show them this video on the 'ole UA-cam :)
This reminds me of the saying about old men who plant trees , but in reality you can go down the slide if you get the urge . Really extraordinary stuff .
Ha! I thought about a spin on it like that about that old saying, but as you say it kinda reached it's full maturity in just 4 days :)
Just awesome! You have a great community. KC Don 😉
That is amazing great team effort to better ur community u have a great set of volunteers friends n family u r truly blessed god bless
Thanks so much Adam.
Great looking play area. I noticed some family members out their but there were plenty of other volunteers. I liked growing up in a small town.
For sure!
Seeing this playground coming together brings back memories for me. Back in '97 after a ton of fundraisers, we got a new playground for the elementary school I attended. I think it's now with the new building which was built in 2012.
That's great that you got to be a part of that Robert. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
Its people like you that make it worth while to get out of bed every morning.......
Well that's very nice of you to say!
Nice video. Great idea to hire a boss to coordinate the volunteers.
Thanks Jim.
Very well done!
Small communities are the best to live in (in my opinion) because usually, most people are helping each other. Yes in big towns you can buy everything and there is more to do but they don't have that community spirit that I love.
Wow, great job to all!!!
Got the approval of the girls! Very very cool, awesome to see a community come together for the kiddos 👍🏻👍🏻
In kentucky all of our plants have front discharge I never poured from a rear until I traveled to Indiana for work.
What an awesome video. It's nice to see communities coming together.
Hello from the Netherlands Koch Family .
thanks for the video Neil .
Sincerely Hollandduck
Great community project. It's really rewarding to be involved in something in a community. I'm glad my grandparents instilled that into me growing up. Brings back many memories, helping them volunteer at the park since they lived across the street from it. My grandfather always cut their grass for free, and maintained all the plumbing.
That's great Alan. Glad it brought back found memories for you.
so far my favorite person is your Dad- he is a harder worker :)
I would have loved to have been a part of this installation.
I love installation of big stuff and making kids happy.
Respect to the whole crew and the supervisor,
You've done a great job.
Praise the Lord, just awesome.
That instrumental when you guys were spreading mulch, sounded like ‘with a little help from my friends’ which was appropriate if so.
Ha! I could hear that too. So wish we could use mainstream music on these. Would have been a good fit :)
Haha always looking for a good job that let's your play with your favorite toys!
Impressive effort and that might be the best looking playground setup I've ever seen especially in a small town environment.
Over my years of spreading hundreds and hundreds of yards of mulch... I've learned that the first load of mulch you put down degrades quickly (its like the soil is hungry initially). I recommend getting a good local arborist (look for the guy with the best chipper / smallest woodchips) to dump you free piles next to the playground (during the winter) so next spring you can spread it out and keep it looking fresh and keep the ground soft. Stay away from the toxic rubber mulches (unless that is your only option).
All of our mulch came from a lumber mill that is 5 miles from the park. Hopefully they can keep us stocked up too! Thanks Paul
Hello Neil, you guys made a really nice playground for the kids in the community. Let's hope they really appreciate everyone's hard work . It was definitely a big install, nice to see you could do the install yourself and get some better equipment . The concrete mixer is a really handy truck , never have seen these here in belgium or Europe. Congratulations to all the workers involved in the build , and specifically to your dad . He keeps going strong at his age. Respect Wish you guys all the best. Greetings from belgium 🇧🇪
Thanks so much Johan! Yes, it was a rewarding project with a great result. Those front discharge mixers are absolutely the best for an assortment of concrete jobs. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Once again Neil, you knocked it out of the PARK 😂 Seriously though, absolutely great video!!! Really enjoyed it and now I'm thinking about moving to Harlan 😉👍
Hey thanks so much Sam!
Man that looks amazing!!!
That's awesome! I had no idea your family did so much for the park and community. It was cool to see my childhood home in that initial drone shot. Keep up the great work!
Always enjoy your videos, you keep such a positive attitude. Please continue the excellent work, I look forward to Sundays Thank you
Thanks!
Good work and good project!
This is the America we love!
