TOP 10 SOTY for me:
Casey - Sanctimonous
Invent Animate - Sleepless Deathbed
The Plot In You - Don't Look Away
Bloom - Through The Treshold, Beyond The Bend
Mirrorcell - Dissolve
Grayscale Season - Still Hurts
Northlane - Afterimage
Aphasia - In Death
Imminence - Continuum
Like Moths To Flames - Kintsugi
This and Caligula's Horse - The Stormchaser are my 2 top contenders so far. Dirty Loops - Run Away is close too just cause it's such a fun bop.
Beginning my Descent to Hell by Before I Turn is still top dog for me so far, with Afterimage by Northlane as a close second. That being said, I haven’t listened to this album yet, and I love Night Verses.
Phoenix v invocation
Mute by Caligula's Horse and Empire by Wheel (which you need to hear!!) 🔥🔥🔥
It's shocking that people are still sleeping on this band
Assuming you checked out P2 this morning ?😮💨
BIRB/Drew, just too many amazing bands!! Nik's latest video is bands w
@@howie8599 Following him on bandcamp since the 2022 twitch sessions. Just both godlike skill and creativity combined.
An excerpt of a note from Aric Improta on the music video for Phoenix IV: Levitation (which in and of itself is intrinsically linked to the song)
“The Phoenix series is a collective reflection of our most prominent influences put together into one composition during the period which they were created, to act as a personal time capsule of where we were creatively during the years which each record was composed. Those influences are not limited to just music. We've often use film as a source of inspiration to help guide the direction of our songs and albums."
Bro what in the FUCK is this production though?? This might be literally the heaviest song I have ever heard. You were right man this album is fookin mental
This is also my song of the year contender right now. Night Verses is the best instrumental band out there, period!
Man. These guys are insane. The drummer has literally blown my mind. 🤯 was awesome to wake up to this album the other day ❤
I HIGHLY recommend you check out "Phoenix IV: Levitation" off their previous album. This entire band is an experience but that song in particular is god tier.
Also, fun little fact: I've been following them since their first LP, and I noticed that they end their albums the same way they begin their previous albums. So that vocal sample you hear at the very end of this song, it's also sampled in the very beginning of their previous album, etc etc. Cool little thing they do
This song deserves to be on a "Playlist for the Apocalypse". Sounds apocalyptic af but also has beautiful melodic passages.
It reminded me to something Humanity's Last Breath would write and that's a HUGE compliment.
I... I'm sorry... I didn't know this band... Now I want to check out all of their songs...
This is deserving SOTY now and it's gonna be hard to beat that one.
Check out ‘Plague Dancer’ on the same album bro……
@@DrewFortune97 Ok I'm in love with this band ! Thank you for that Mr Fortune !
For sure, man. Spotify randomly recommended this band to me and I was hooked from the start. Stank face in the first minute, haha.
Night Verses is amazing I got into them from their 2018 album From The Gallery Of Sleep. The songs Copper Wasp & Vice Wave are absolute banger's from that album! When I heard they came back out of a 5 year hiatus and was putting out a new album I was so stoked. Also the drummer Aric Improta is an absolute beast behind the kit! \m/
I've had this song on repeat for the past week.
FOR ME, it pairs with the eclipse so well!
You've shown so many bands that absolutely fuck
🤝🏻❤️
This album is fucking incredible! Best instrumental post metal stuff I've heard since Isis or Cult of Luna
Went in with no idea what to expect, but yeah, this is sick. Definitely getting added to my Spotifly.
Hey, I remember your Tool journey and how you fell into the Tool rabbit-hole. Same thing happened to me many years ago, butI have always wanted to listen to Maynard's other projects. Always thought they were side projects, but let me tell you Puscifer is an amazing band in itself and definitely not just a side project. I know you have done a couple of APC reviews, but please consider doing some Puscifer reviews. IMHO every Tool fan should give a thorough listen to Puscifer as it will be right up their alley! Tool is always going to be my all time favorite band, but Puscifer has risen to a close second!!
First time listening to this band and wow I think you may be right!
This is so insane and groovy lol love it
Dude you’re totally right about showing this to new people. I’m hooked to these guys like I am to Modern Day Babylon. Instrumental mastery!
The Phoenix series is probably the best thing you're gonna listen to!!!
After listening to this a few times, it just keeps getting better. My SOTY was going to be from vildhjarta, but this is a contender.
Great video as always drew.
I am rocking out, never heard much of Night Verses before, but got onto it via my brother and the track w Brandon boyd. Youre incredibly still for how intense this song is
Holy shit!
actually never seen someone get chills on a stream/react vid crazy
this album is insane
one song I'll never get back was 2022's Rolo Tomassi song DRIP ...that album was insane too, real cut above
This is awesome 🤩 just as good as the album from last year🎉
I've been enjoying Aska (feat. Author & Punisher)
Aska gives me huge chills with that industrial ambience and the beautiful clean guitars. A fav as well
Just listened to their 2018 album yesterday actually, you should check out Copper Wasp- it’s probably my favorite instrumental metal track ever.
Funny, I wanted to comment you on your next video that part 2 is out, but already did an entire album listen! Nice!
Btw if you haven't heard from the gallery of sleep, please do, another master piece of an album!
I was pretty skeptical because I tend to have a hard time listening to instrumental-only stuff. I'm a writer so lyrics mean a ton to songs (at least for me). But WOW... the more I delved into this one with you, Drew, the more I was just blown away. So freaking sick. And yes, SOTY contender for sure.
As a writer, what's your favourite 3 vocalists (metal or otherwise) ?
For me, it's
Dustin Kensrue - Thrice
Benjamin Stewart - Slowly Slowly
Kevin Dye - gates
But I agree, lyrics are a major component in how much I'll like a song.
Honestly wasn't sure they could follow up From the Gallery of Sleep. Love to be surprised.
i can feel some mick gordon here
I can't wait to see these guys support tool.
Sweet!
I’ll watch this when I finish listening to the album today.
The ending sample is the intro to copper wasp. It must hit so hard live!!!
thats crazy how even after this banger album still so many people never heard about them, honestly probably AOTY but i would love to be proven wrong
THIS SLAYED.
NEW IMMINENCE JUST SLAYED TOO
This song made me combust 🔥
Cool! Finally something unique. Although still I miss vocals hahaha but that’s just me.
Honestly, the songs with vocals are boring, we are listening instrumental because there is so much going on that you can't put vocals on it
@@TheAlex4019 since I written that comment from an hour ago I can say I don’t think about vocals anymore, in other words I get it now , I have given it a couple more listens and it’s on repeat. So good this song. I think I might jam this one soon.
@@janosszucs7127fastest 180 in history, you love to see it😂🔥
Phoenix IV Levitation is still my favorite Phoenix song
Man …. The last minutes of thid song ❤
Go see these guys live, the drummer alone is worth it
Song of the year for a moment… New Imminence just released.
Goosebumps at 9:00….We are cut from the same cloth mate. 🎉🔥🤯
Underrated band. Wait til you hear the black by imminence
I love the new cats claw, but thornhill was good to
I've commented this before, but we are genuinely the same person through musical symbiosis hahaha.
Hahaha love it man, you have great taste I guess ;)
Я предполагал, что этим треком может оказаться Феникс😊
Do anyone have tabs ending thall part?
Yoohoo I got a nice music for my 33rd birthday.🍰✨
Happy Fooking Birthday Man!
I only know 25 letters in the alphabet. I don’t know y.
Are they fully instrumental?
Yup, but they got features for vocals on this album!
@@DrewFortune97 they had a vocalist for a long time but went instrumental and the extra attention to their instruments pays off big time
@@DrewFortune97 Not too different from Earthside, pretty cool
My songs of the year so far are:
1. G.O.D. - Dream on Dreamer (this band is so fucking back).
2. Hollow Heart - Andromida (he's finally doing vocals on his own music)
3. Dante - Northlane (it was a grower, but man, so very awesome).
Dante is 2023 dude
@@DrewFortune97 Was it? Shiet. In that case, I've no idea haha.
still waiting for you to check out another band of Nick, @Headcave
