@@reptile1687 I have. You can’t reverse puberty. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. If you pump a young boy full of estrogen and years later they change their mind you cannot just turn them back into the same person. Hormones don’t work that way.
People saying these laws protect children but it is absolutely abusive to not affirm your child. People say "how can a child know their gender" but don't take it to its logical conclusion, everyone should go on puberty blockers. I don't think that is necessary especially since it is hard for me to imagine a kid being wrong about their gender despite their confidence in it and knowledge of the stigmas. These people are somehow ok with kids hurting themselves, hiding their bodies under baggy clothing, and being anti social to avoid being seen as a certain gender. Trans people can actually be confident in their gender. They have questioned and explored their gender. Most cis people accepted theirs without question.
Parents are supposed to guide and teach their children on how to be functional adults and teach them values about what's expected of them.
I imagine if that was the core of what people focused on instead of subjective feelings, this trans fad would die off and return to the obscurity of 20 years ago.

Exactly. This is literally all this comes down to. Leaving the internet and electronic devices to raise your offspring who was already a wierdo and now seeking “medical intervention” like parenting has nothing to do with it.
I pulled a total 180 on this social contagion and medical scandal to anti, just from listening to transactivists and their allies.
I personally don’t agree at all with any of this foolishness but at the same time, I’m so sick of the foolishness that comes out of this demographic that I kind of feel it would be morally acceptable to let them do what they want to their bodies and if they have to suffer the rest of their lives for it, so be it. Why exactly should the greater society be so invested in these kids? You can’t tell them anything. The parents are failures. The medical establishment claims there’s but minimal risk. If all of these actors who are directly involved are agreeing to it, I say let them do what they do and deal with the consequences. The rest of us won’t be liable because they are the ones who chose not to listen.

She wasn’t born into the wrong body she was born into the wrong family.
Just imagine you see your kid hurting and depressed and everything you do just seems not to work. You take them to doctors and therapists to get help but still nothing is working. Now you are scared they might take their own life, what do you do? Then you listen and get them the help they say they needed and suddenly you see your is kid more happy, they seem more positive and even get involved more with you. That how some parents of trans kids feel. Do you want to lose a child or still want them in your life.
If they are really suicidal, cutting off their healthy body parts won't help them at all.
They will relapse and off themselves. But hey, at least, for a while, they were so high in hormones that they weren't that suicidal. So, a slight win.

That is not what all the studies show, with only a 2% regret rate, these treatments are very helpful for those that need them. I get your gut instinct is these treatments are bad because if you did them it would be wrong for you, in fact it would cause you gender dysphoria as your body changes in ways you would not like, but its the opposite for trans kids.

Those of us born into bodies that require emergency surgical procedures in their infancy and maintenance procedures throughout their lives, with daily medication, wonder why anyone who is normally healthy would elect to undergo such an extensive medical treatment?

Obviously they weren't "normally healthy" if they needed gender affirming care. Just because you had the "privilege" of having clear physical deformities justify your access to medical care doesn't mean unseen issues are any less important to address.

Clearly, the answer is that they require the help to BE happy and healthy. You're right, no one CHOOSES to need daily medication and extensive medical treatments just for funsies -- if they need this care, it's because they _need_ the care.
I am also one of those people who require daily medication and ongoing medical procedures to keep my body functioning and I think you're in the wrong here, and you certainly don't speak for me even though I'm also in the disability/chronic illness camp with you. If a teen tells me they are trans and need gender affirming care, I'm going to believe them. This treatment isn't handed out like candy; there is as much of a pile of hoops to hop through for this as there is for any of the medical treatment I need, if not more. Doctors, therapists, waiting periods, trials of lesser options, etc. before they get blockers or hormones or anything else. By the time they get this treatment, they KNOW that this is what they need.

I hope these children get rhe help they need. However, making a decision to change your gender at that age isnt the right thing. Next ten years a lot of persons will be interviewed and state their regrets. Im also disappointed with the doctors who stated that its for the best. We know you get lifetime patients from these people, but have a heart
The studies show only a 1-2% detrantion rate with most detrantioning becuase of pressure form family or financial reasons not because its not right for them. I understand that people that are not tran would think that their would be lots of regret since if they did it they would regert it, but that is because they are not trans. The doctors that treat trans people are very good at determining who will benefit form medical intervention and who is not ready for that. Their is a lot of tharapy and evaluation, i understand the doubt, but i think you should trust the doctors and thr patients that tell you this is helpful even for teens.
@@teranelson826 I get what you're saying and I'm not going to argue with the science right now. However, transgender children are a very recent phenomena. These studies assessed people who transitioned before 18 and are now adults. I'm very certain that these people were over the age of 12 before they began treatment. I'm a scientist myself, and I'll wait before making conclusive statements on regret. I do think it is a money grab for doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Give it 10 to 15 more years for the dark underbelly to be revealed

@@emi_mono actually transitioning in children has been recorded since the early 1900s. It was not used to treat children who felt like they were born in the wrong body. It was used to "help" children who were intersex. To say that transitioning of children has been around as long as medical science is wrong. Children began transitioning in the 60s and 70s and that was only a very small number. Don't twist facts to support your point
Do they ever do hormone tests on kids when they're having this dysphoria? I'm wondering if a lot of it is hormonal related and if there's a specific something that's off. Also. I think at LEAST 18, then let them do as they please unless there's a genuin health reason why they need hormone treatments and stuff (e.g. pcos or something). And I feel like too many surgeons prey on people like this too
There have been many, many peer reviewed studies supporting this care in medical literature worldwide. Stay out of other parents business! You dont want the govt telling you how to parent wearing masks, and you have no oroof of harm. Republicans are nothing but hypocrites. It doesn't matter how you 'feel' . Google the research and educate yourself.
mate you sound really REALLY ignorant about all this. not every kid with dysphoria will make it to 18 without gender affirming care. Even those who do, youre basically guaranteeing they loose a huge chunk of their childhood to a disorder they could have had help with.

They do the tests, yes. Believe me, as a health care provider, I can tell you that there's a whole battery of physical and psychological tests and exams done before they get to the point where they're getting hormones. We don't give this stuff out like candy, I promise.

This is an extreme controversial topic for a reason. For transgender girls and boys having access to medication and gender affirming care can be a lifesaver.
But people on the other side of this argument have some valid points too. Not every person diagnosed with gender dysphoria is a transgender person. There are other reasons why people feel they were born in the wrong body.
There needs to be a process to determine the reason for these thoughts. Starting medical intervention as a child and teen is not always the cure.
Not every law that restricts the access to gender affirming care for children under the age of 18 comes from a place of hate and transphobia.
Giving children more time to figure out who they truly are and want to live as an adult can also be a lifesaver if you look at people detransitioning or feeling suicidal after going through with the surgeries.
you can’t both sides this issue.
on one side, we have trans kids dealing with a pretty hefty disorder that can easily lead to self harm, and on the other side we have random adults on the internet pretending to know what’s best for a child with a disorder they’ve never seen.
one one side we have treatments, therapies, and well thought out and tested standards for trans medical care that balance the needs of the kids with the concerns of the parents. on the other side you have ignorant adults who have irrational fears about trans health care (adults who perpetuate bs stories about kids with gender dysphoria not being trans)
on one side you have trans people and their families trying to move towards a healthy, happy, productive life, on the other side you have randos pushing false info they hear from the internet while they justify the state targeting peoples medical care on the basis of “people shouldn’t be trans”
Their already is a protocols to determine who is transgender and who is just having gender issues that do not require transition. Studies show that between 1-2% of people that transtion detrantion and most of those for social or financial reasons, not because it was wrong for them. This is a very good track record, for example knee surgery has a 30% regret rate. So their is a very good protocol that is being used and they are constantly updating it to get the best results. I think the reason it seems like so many people detrantion is that the right wing media highlights the few cases to make it feel like many trans people regret transition, when the evidence show the opposite.
@@babs_babsI work with children and adults who are dealing with gender dysphoria for two decades. There are two valid sides to this argument. Nobody in my field of work thinks people shouldn't be trans. Trans people are a reality and they have the right to exist and be treated respectfully by society and the law. But it is also a reality that i talked to a huge number of kids who are gender dysphoric and not trans. In the last 2 to 3 years we see a shift in the people who seek help. There is a growing concern about starting gender affirming care too early or with wrong expectations. I'm glad people like you have such a high opinion of my profession, but i wish people who are allies would just be as willing to listen to the potential risks.

it’s one thing to have concerns when you’re the parent sitting in the doctors office trying to sort out what’s right for your kid. but that’s not most adults with “concerns”. most of those adults don’t know a single trans person, have zero direct experience with gender dysphoria, and have a pretty hefty bias against anyone lgbt.
i’m still not convinced there are really two sides to this issue. one side wants proper, well informed medical care for trans people, the other side wants none of it. lumping in concern trolls with supportive parents just doesn’t seem right to me
There’s this thing that humans do which is adapt, overcome, make the most of the hand we are dealt and find your way in life with that hand, trans people don’t have that, they think the grass is greener on the other side and if I just make some artificial changes I’ll feel better, you know how they’d REALLY feel better? By overcoming the obstacles in life and finding where they fit in with what they’re given, there’s no easy way out of any hardships in this life for anybody, they want to just find an easy way to fit in without actually doing any work or doing anything difficult, and that’s why the suicide rate remains the same before and after transition, they’ve made all these changes but got nothing out of it because they don’t wanna go out and actually make something of themselves or do something fulfilling, they think you can just buy happiness

While every death is sad and we should endeavor to help as many people as possible, but when making public health policy you mush make the choices that would help the most people.
