I know this is a year later but PCBs can be made to order using software like kicad and companies like PCBway or JLCPCB who will produce your design for a couple dollars minimum.
@@brodo1337swaggins It was more the idea of a "motherboard"--sure, just a PCB, but considerably more complicated than I'm capable of. Given the mix of AC and DC current in a pinball machine, dozens, if not hundreds of I/O channels. I'll stick to customized power-distribution boards and LED lighting for quadcopters for now :D
i know im randomly asking but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the login password. I love any help you can give me
Nooooo! keep the manual ball launcher! it is part of what makes pinball interactive! with practice you can drop the ball just were you want it, so it doesn't just bounce around at the top and drop wherever. that said... A GREAT overview and 'peek under the hood' of an old school arcade Classic Thank you! --Rick
make a pinball starter kit! id love to take the step from restoring to creating but the computer side scares the hell out of me.. would be so cool with "pinballmaker" kit of sorts..
This reminds me of Futurepin. It's a pinball "emulator" that's also used to create original digital tables because it boasts a large set of building tools. You can even import your own 3D objects for the table. The kicker is that it includes wiring information and tools that make it perfect for actually building a table irl... Now I'm off to go redownload that software.
If people are looking for old circuit boards ect. they should check the dumpster at a "Rent-to-Own" shop they have SO MANY computers and monitors in the dumpster. It's crazy. The dumpster is clean too because its all electronics. You can seriously get a never ending supply of computer cases, ROM drives and PSU's.
Ben! I see you are using an ATX 20-pin power connector on your board. Where did you get that? Is there any better way to get them than hunting down old motherboards? I have found the male connector online, not the female motherboard connector.
do you switch both sides of the solenoid? I used to have a pinball machines and could swear it held one end high and grounded the other end to activate it. also, a show with tips on solenoids would be great. they don't seem sexy, but a lot of projects rely on them.
Id love to see people build more pinballs that people can buy at more reasonable prices. A good idea would be to make games that require no licensing fees and uses the maximum amount of technology for the money, as well making them 100% home games where there is no money involved. This could focus the designers on making a game that plays longer rather than a shorter game that makes more money.
Ben, I am starting a pinball project. Could you help me with some basic measurements, such as minimum distance between pinball and two rails (1 1/16 in pinball), width of slot on roll over wires, sling shot posts, etc. I realize that each machine has different designs, but there must be some basic measurements, Also the initial channel width for pinball shooter. Most of the other measurements seem to be trial and error. A little help please to get started with the playfield. Thanks Tom
Ben, you mentioned licensing, I was just curious if you had encountered the recent Sega title Ghost Squad? I'd suspect you would have some conflict there if you are actually planning to mass market this machine
i haven't seen if anyone asked before so... How much does all the parts cost for one pinball machine? have u build any party by your own? It's so amazing! I saw the video and want to start a projekt RIGHT NOW! ;-)
BenHeck I have an awesome idea for you for the gaming section would it be possible to make a bigger version of the controller like a massive version of a wii u you controller you know so you don't have to stretch your hands to play games on a console
I have a question I purchased as a gift for my stepmom a 1979 pinball machine alive made by Brunswick I was wanting to know the board in it shot crap so I was wanting to fix it but I can't because they don't sell the chip for it anymore and it runs off one main CPU board I was wanting to know what you would recommend and how I could set one up something to be able to get it to where my dad can actually play it and my my stepmom play the alive pinball machine what would you recommend
I like you but you did not show how to build a pinball machine. What you showed was that you understand different components on a motherboard. I never saw you work on the playing field. Did you build the playing field or did you have someone do it for you?
I particularly LOVED this intro! This was such a great a video, Ben Heck is so fucking man status lol, i would absolutely love to build my own pinball machine.. God maybe someday, will favorite this video just in case lol. awesome videos guys..
I can just sense my wife thinking "Oh no, not another project!" I'm more tempted to make an old style electro-mechanical system rather than a micro-controlled system as that's more my style.
He gets all this 'money' because he has made a name for himself in the hobbyist electronics world. There are other engineers who do great things - but none of them connect with their audience like Ben Heck does. It's not about making the most impressive gadget - it's about making the gadget that people want to see, like portable consoles and controllers for smart phones. The bottom line is that ingenious engineers doing innovative work shouldn't look to UA-cam for recognition.
It may have something to do with his upcoming convention... Honestly, I'm surprised he can churn out a video every week (I've tried in the past and failed miserably haha).
I wanna build a razor ramon and shawn Michaels wrestlemania 10 pinball machine. For myself that is because you have to get liscensing to release it but if I can I would release it to the world.
No. Your videos are GOOD QUALITY. You need to add some cool titles, effects etc. He put time and effort into his videos. He does projects which he believes viewers will LOVE not some shitty video about "Shift Registers" Shutup benheck has hit the youtube audience and his videos are amazing. Go away
How unfeasible would it be to start doing this from absolute scratch, as in no experience in coding, electronics, carpentry etc? It would take decades to learn all this wouldn't it?
Love the ending advice. No dumb projects? Nice, but there's one thing, Ben.... Loan me one damn thousand dollars cuz building a pinball machine doesn't cost 5 dollars, dude.....
I wonder if I can make my own pinball machine...
"I'm starting with this new custom pinball motherboard I've designed..."
Oh, so no, I can't.
Check out the practical engineer
Make a video pinball cabinet. They're easy, and let you emulate all the cabinets.

As an ancient gamer who started back in 1972 (with Gottleib's "Batter Up" pinball machine) - this is an awesome project to see in action.
Nooooo! keep the manual ball launcher!

I have always wanted to build a pinball machine. You've re-ignited that urge. Thanks Ben.
Me too. Since I was a kid.
Question - how did you get the playfield printed and what printing process was it done with?
OMG internet shut up! Leave Ben alone! Leave him alone...why do haters hate so much?! Don't listen Ben keep up the good work.

can i buy the pinball board?
Cool. So where's the link to your channel with all your hard work?
Can you let me know when that controller board will be available for purchase?
I always wanted to design an old looking pinball machine inspired by Gottleib. Those tables are so cool!
Yea this video is a classic
Very interesting episode! Sounds like a lot of fun to build a pinball machine.
How did you make the board
Ben! I see you are using an ATX 20-pin power connector on your board. Where did you get that? Is there any better way to get them than hunting down old motherboards? I have found the male connector online, not the female motherboard connector.
Do you make these "Pin-Heck" boards for people?
where can you get one of those boards
Ben, not sure it would help but I know Lisa from Ghost Hunters. Maybe for voice calls?
Now, I really, really want to make my own !
Man grew up with the pinball machine in home FIREBALL, would love to make a pinball machine from scratch and learn all the mechanics behind it.
do you switch both sides of the solenoid? I used to have a pinball machines and could swear it held one end high and grounded the other end to activate it. also, a show with tips on solenoids would be great. they don't seem sexy, but a lot of projects rely on them.

Indeed
This guy is DA MAN, but I wish he would quit all his other silly projects and JUST MAKE PINBALL MACHINES!
What classes do i need to take to make a pinball, to understand what to do better?
+The Ben Heck Show What program do you use to design the pinball machine cabinet and the other stuff?
How can we make it I can't understand the system
were did you get the mainboard pcb made
You are going places big guy!
This episode has a lot more content on benheckdotcom channel, a lot of behind the scenes I've been following it for over a month now.
Awesome! Any chance you could do a video on making a cnc machine?
Your table looks amazing, I'd play it!
he's an entertainer for the electronically inclined. i'd like to see some of the videos you're referring to also.
Ben, I am starting a pinball project. No. Sega doesn't own ghosts i'm sorry.
*points to port for alphanumeric display
Oh...oh god. as a fan of the system 11 games back in the day, that is VERY much a hell yes
Great job ! Makes me think about it as well !!
ben heck show, please do a video on how to make a video game console :) you mentioned that some what near the end, and that got me exited :D
you did not show how to build the front decorated with ghosts mechanism
very entertaining, thanks for the great video! you have a new follower from germany now : )
Wilkommen im Club :)
i haven't seen if anyone asked before so...

do you think that you could use a ps3 or ps 4 controlleron a ps vita
I'd like to see some car mods. Replacing the factory radio with a nexus 7 would be great!
I like you but you did not show how to build a pinball machine. What you showed was that you understand different components on a motherboard. I never saw you work on the playing field. Did you build the playing field or did you have someone do it for you?
Google it. :) There's tons of videos on his channel.
This video should be renamed to "Watch me build a pinball machine and think about how you ain't got time for that."
You’re a freakin legend
Where can that board be gotten?
I thought that you were standing in my room for a second. I have the same "dogs playing poker" rug on my wall lol
how do you refill the multiball ???????
Would having a raspberry Pi pinball be a good idea, (pinball shield?)
hi, can you send me the schematic of that board?
I particularly LOVED this intro! This was such a great a video, Ben Heck is so fucking man status lol, i would absolutely love to build my own pinball machine.. God maybe someday, will favorite this video just in case lol. awesome videos guys..
Why use a buffer and not many PTC? They're more expensive but you won't have to replace them.
Please make a video of how to make a full size pinball machine :D
Share some links of the other guys you on about, please.
saludos desde Chile, excelente show
greetings from Chile, excelent show.
I can just sense my wife thinking "Oh no, not another project!" I'm more tempted to make an old style electro-mechanical system rather than a micro-controlled system as that's more my style.
What is that SD Card Slot for?
Make porn sound files and porn for the display
You should make a genesis/cd/32x combo unit, no more wires and overkill power adapters
I like it when he said
Take this Door
you should build a replica of that old windows space cadet pinball
Earned my sub
8:10 sounds like a battle plan

Ooh! Pinball my fav game!
But will never reply to that, Ben anyways this vid was THIS!
Wow, I just noticed that DDR pad back there. :P
"I don't have a fifth ball, I'll just use my finger" LMFAO
5:03 That wire management is making me physically ill
have to say i prefer manual pull for pinball more than the electronic one.
You should make your own game console!
¿This guy is a genius? im surprised
awesome
im french and in don't understand all you say butI LIKE ALL YOUR MOVIES
wow i had no idea it was that complicated
Can you make a time machine? To travel in time
What happened to the rants and raves?
It may have something to do with his upcoming convention... Honestly, I'm surprised he can churn out a video every week (I've tried in the past and failed miserably haha).
Ben will never reply to this, But anyways that vid was AWSOME!

I want to make the Corvette Pinball game
and thats what im saying: he SHOULD make consoles (or a console) at some point. that would be cool
How unfeasible would it be to start doing this from absolute scratch, as in no experience in coding, electronics, carpentry etc? It would take decades to learn all this wouldn't it?
Make a custom gaming pad or foot pedals made for gaming
yay
Love the ending advice. No dumb projects? Nice, but there's one thing, Ben.... Loan me one damn thousand dollars cuz building a pinball machine doesn't cost 5 dollars, dude.....
you should take over the show lol
My Idea
Math Blaster Pinball
i think u should make a psvita combined with a 3ds
Why So Serially Ben?
9:46 and it's RoHS Complient.
Yep, build a pinball in 12 minutes.
sweet i live in wisconsin
