Road cycling community takes itself much too seriously 😂
I’m going to buy a polka dot jersey and be the slowest guy at my local hill climb.
I actually did that lol
Even the UCI itself sells the jersey so clearly, they are ok with it !
I'm wearing my rainbow Quick-Step jersey today for a ride just cause it might piss someone off, lol
I've never seen so many unwritten laws in any other sport. They are against the jerseys but then ride the same bike as the leaders. In the 80s, we wore the team jerseys as spectators at the Tour de Suisse and had them signed when we crossed the finish line. It was our way of expressing our support for the team and the riders. It was also welcomed by the riders and they were happy about the support. It's time for cycling itself to take center stage again.
That's an excellent point: 100 dollar rainbow jersey? You are not worthy enough to wear it. 15k top of the line bike? Man, that's awesome!
Not unwritten

Live by it
What someone wants to wear is non of anyone else' business. should a football/rugby fan not wear their team/countries shirt with the world or champions league winners badges on because they weren't part of that team? All this nonsense of not wearing team & world champions jerseys in cycling is antiquated & childish. It says more about the person complaining than the one wearing what they like.
Catchy title "45Rainbowjersey"
🙃
I went to Dubai and brought my bike.
Loved my trip there so i bought the UAE team jersey as a "souvenir".
I wear it from time to time, some people think you consider yourself as a super strong rider and want to show off by wearing a team jersey...
The rainbow jersey with the new Giro aero helmet would be the kit.
There’s a difference between wearing team kit (a la the football kit analogy) and wearing the prize. The rainbow jersey, yellow, pink, polka dot etc are the prizes for winning. It’s like owning a replica Olympic gold medal.
No it’s not. Shirt is functional.
Love the content/podcast! Keep up the great work guys!
To me wearing team kits is totally different to wearing a world champs or yellow jersey etc. I personally wouldn't wear either and don't really care what other people wear but a WC or yellow jersey is awarded to whoever won that award. It would be like having a replica FA cup on your mantelpiece
I agree. I would add - did he wear it before he won it? The jersey is the trophy and you (we) didn't win the trophy. Wear the team kit to support the team. Ride the same bike. Eat the same nutrition. Ride the routes. Celebrate it all. But showing off a trophy you didn't win is weird.
why do they sell it if you can't buy it ?
Nothing wrong with team kit. But wearing a championship or a leader's jersey is something different. I would not ride in it, feel stolen valor like too me. But I'd keep thoughts about others to myself. And those thoughts wouldn't be too harsh. As said it's probably someone who a fan of that world champion, it's all relative. And to be fair, it's not that different than something I do; if the Giro is on, I try to have some pink accents, if the TdF is on some yellow, and the Vuelta some red.
F’in right on, Emily.
Ride bikes. That’s it.
I don’t have a problem with it. There are some absolute bellends in cycling though that think they’re the gatekeepers of the sport. They’re usually also the same guys who crap all over disc brakes too
I got into cycling during covid knowing norhing about the community. One of the first jerseys if not the very first was a canyon alpencin fenix jersey. I loved that jersey as it fit beautifully on me. My first road bike was also a Canyon. I would wear it and get looks from other riders. I thought I was cool back then but looking back now those people probably thought i was a tool.
I don't wear that jersey anymore 😔
Fantastic 🤣
Where I live in the UK. If you wear that top people will take the right piss out of you. These are the same people who moan about coloured socks and every elite thing you can think of.
I acknowledge other riders… but at least 50% ignore me. Is it my lack of Lycra?
I wanna watch that footage :D
The only sport I know of where you can’t wear your team colours. Odd.
I think most people here are saying it's fine to wear your team colors. That is very different from wearing the Rainbow jersey, which is very specifically the trophy for being the world champion.
For me, I wouldn't wear one because it is an award to an individual for excellence or achievement. I wouldn't feel entitled to wear it as I'm not World Champion. Branded, or team kit is fine as long as the team/brand feel okay. Would you wear medals that you weren't awarded? or display /claim a degree you hadn't qualified for?
I wouldn't harangue anyone who does wear one but for me it's just not somthing I'd do.
that's actually a pretty good point. The jersey IS the prize, a medal, a cup if you will.
"as long as the team/brand feel okay", that's a good point actually. Now I would not buy too many replica jerseys anyway, but for instance, at one point last year's Jumbo-Visma jersey was on sale for cheap. (as a Dutchie, I don't mind riding in the biggest Dutch team's kit) I was tempted, but since they have Betcity as a sponsor, a gambling company, it was the major reason I didn't. There's not too many teams that have 1) an attractive, recognisable jersey 2) not have dodgy sponsors (questionable state sponsor, petrochemical, gambling, lotteries) 3) not have a link to dopers 4) have charismatic and likeable riders 5) have likeable staff and tactics.
@@Yurkevich22Thank you. Regards Tony Sadler South Wales uk 🏴
@@RenAiguThank you, you make a potent and thoughtful point as well.
You do know that world champion actually get medals.
I had a team sky jersey back in the day and people would always look at me funny wearing it. Never bothered me much though
Wear what you want, I couldn’t care less. I personally wouldn’t, but I also don’t wear team kit or promotional stuff.
I think being able to buy and wear team kit is great. When I was a kid I used to wear a replica Sem-Mavic jersey like Kelly. It’s a way of showing support for a team or your hero rider. It encourages participation and that's got to be a positive. But I would never wear replica national champs, European champs or world champs jerseys. They are different. They represent someone’s personal achievement and I respect that. They are unique and I think keeping them that way is a good thing too. There’s nothing wrong with that. I love the fact that if you see someone wearing one of those jerseys you know who they are and what they’ve done. I think that’s pretty cool and the fact that is different to other sports isn’t a bad thing. It’s nothing to do with snobbery or elitism.
Wear whatever you want. F&c# that!
If it’s on sale you can wear it end off story.
👍🤣
If you feel the need to adress someone about what they're wearing, it's more telling about yourself honestly.
Nearly every cyclist already had the fingerprint of the UCI on their bike.
They put the bike frame and fork stickers on everything.
WTF cares if people want to wear the UCI colors.
I personally wouldn't buy/wear one (or any of the other jerseys that are awarded) just as I wouldn't wear a Victoria Cross, or buy a fake Paris Roubaix trophy to stick on my mantlepiece.
I don't understand the "can't wear a jersey that's awarded" / "stolen valor" concept. How narcissistic do you have to be to think that you'll be confused with the actual national/world/grand tour champ riding around? Don't see overly much appeal to wearing it either, but if you like it that much or are a fan of the rider, go ahead
I mean you can wear PeNiS gear and be considered stylish😂😂😂. Or a million other brands that are literally only a marketing exercise.
Without ranking and status however would we be able to judge ourselves and others, where would self worth come from? So much BS, going riding, no shirt, hockey helmet and just the chamois not the shorts. Hmm, thank goodness for frame bags, dreaded where I would have had to stash my snacks…
That's exactly the point. Don't be a d**k about it, don't judge. I personally think you should only wear a champion's jersey if you are a present or past champion. For me, that's a sign of respect for the rider and the hard work they had to put in to win that championship. But how small minded do you have to be to start judging people because they have a different opinion on something like that, and give them grief about it? But as you said, that's not only the case with championship jerseys. One could almost think people like to judge and belittle other folks in general.
team kit is whatever but full kit wanker is definitely a term in other sports. However, wearing a rainbow jersey is like putting a replica olympic gold medal on after the park run.
The only jersey from pro races that’s acceptable to wear is the climbers jersey if you’re a whopper or old wearing it in jest
You can buy it if you want, it doesn’t matter in the end.
It just prove you know nothing about the difficulty of earning the right to wear this type of jersey and ultimately you just lack respecting the champion who wears it by wearing it yourself.
, because he suffers in training and beat other amazing athletes to gain this jersey.
You? You just click on buy it.
The rainbow is a symbol of hope and inclusion in the LGBTQ community that's so ubiquitous it's hard to imagine a Pride celebration without vivid banners flying overhead and outfits made from every color in the rainbow. Make love, not war :)
This has absolutely nothing to do with this. The colors aren't even the same. UCI "rainbow" has the same colors as the Olympic flag which represent the five continents of Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and America
Don't bring that here in here, the LGBTQ does not own the Rainbow
