I don't shoot nearly the volume of photos you do but over forty years as a press photographer I saw many of our negatives poorly kept and when we transitioned to digital in 1999, a lot of our digital work was lost to the early mainframe backup systems that were themselves not as reliable as we first assumed. Strange that some of the B&W negatives I did produce might outlast all the latest tech I now enjoy. Sorry to hear about your loss but I did learn a lesson or two from your experiences. Thanks..

    Hi There
    Love your honest videos ,
Now, I'm an old timer here, these days just shoot for fun Landscape/Wildlife, I have just updated my iMac after 11 years (Apple Studio Ultra) and, over the years have been using WD external HDD's, I used to shoot D4s until the launch of the Z9, (cry once they say, and they are right ! :)),
With the larger files now, and the 20FPS Raw, I am now at the cross roads of upgrading storage , Ive looked at many options but will look at the Lacie 10 TB 1 Big Dock X 2, I have been using CCC for many years now without a glitch so hope to pull the trigger on the 10 TB 1 Big Dock soon, but will have to do more research on it reliability
    regards,
    ............... Gary

Very interesting!! When I’m shooting on a trip I use my DJI copilot hard drive to back up the files directly from the SD card plugged in the hard drive and then I check with my phone connected to the drive if the back up was successful. Never had a problem and I’m doing this since 2019, many trip were backed up this way.

Thanks for always sharing and the tips! Surely there is a way to copy to two drives at once... hmmm.

Thanks for the tips. Is it possible to backup/transfer pictures from the CFX card to the SSD drive without using a computer. Thanks for your tips and definitely I love your honest views.

Not quite sure. I’ve heard people using iPad to transfer. But since I needed a big monitor to check image quality every evening so I bring the laptop.

Heartbreaking story Tin Man! I had a similar experience with a La Cie external drive that fell off my desk and onto the floor. Lost over 70,000 images + all the raw files, and the first 5 years of my photography journey. I currently have 12T of external drives on my desk and backup all my processed images to an Amazon Prime account. I also backup images to Flickr Pro. One thing I experienced was the difficulty getting these back from the cloud the last time it happened - took weeks to download everything again. Digital storage is a drag but what other option do you have? As always your videos are awesome and I really appreciate all the work you do for the community.
