The Amazfit Band packs a lot of features in an activity tracker for just $50 USD. It has heart rate tracking, Blood Oxygen, 15-day battery life, always-on display, and much more.
The question with these activity trackers that pack so many features for a small price... is it too good to be true? Does the Amazfit Band 5 deliver accurate results with all those features?
In my testing, it was kind of a mixed bag. But, overall I felt like this activity tracker delivered much more value than its $50 price tag.

There's a review of the AmazFit by the Quantified Scientist that tracked accuracy using medical grade equipment as a benchmark. It actually came out shockingly well in heartrate monitoring with the exception if misread heart rate as low during rest periods in a workout, which seems counterintuitive. With respect to oxygen monitoring, it performed modestly. It was able to detect qualitative changes, but it exaggerated them. It's step counting feature overcounted, but not by much. However, it did have some false positive steps when there was motion, but not walking.
The price has come down since this video was made, but the fact that the product is still available indicates something towards its acceptance as a viable device. Up to a few days ago, I would always search for a tracker that has GPS built in. But I realized that there is never a time that my cell phone is apart from me - never, and this feature-rich device that lacks GPS (which keeps the price low), just makes sense.
Probably I am the one you mention in your video. I only want to track how active I am but don’t want to spend hundreds on smart watch just for that. This is a great review and I think it’s reliable as you are comparing Amazfit with the other smart watches and some equipment. Thanks! I am going to get this!
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for your review. As far as Amazfit being "correct" or not regarding blood oxygen level or heart rate, these are fluid readings and they change every minute. On my finger blood ox monitor, all I have to do is take a deep breath to go from 94 to 98.
I agree. However, a reading under 90 could send someone into a panic so I just wanted to note it’s not always accurate
Thank you for the nice review!
Just bought mine today thanks for the info on ur video
Glad I could help
Today it's $29 on their website :)
Thank you for the review!
Wow, great deal
@@dad.0 just got it for 13 euros with a student discount on Amazon lol
5:40; ooo good to know. Great review. Very detailed.
Just ordered mines can’t wait 😀
What's your follow-up?
solid review, thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great review sir!
Thank you kindly!
How does the stap hold up ? Is it pretty secure.. ? It looks like it could pop off pretty easily.
Looking for a simple watch that tracks time, distance, and has a good battery life. Would you recommend this or do you have other recommendations ?
Thanks and great video
Very new to monitoring stuff. This is my first device. Good to know that I made a good choice after so much consideration and fear of buying a complicated or not helpful device. Thanks a lot!
Me too! I've never owned a smartwatch, so this review put my mind at easy 😊
One year on, I have to add: I like the device in general, but not the fact that the plastic piece that holds the strap in place broke in 6 months or so.
Glad I could help
Great review 👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching
Are you able to auto record the spO2 during sleeping?
Nice review... I am looking for different colour strap for the Amazfit 5 but can only find Xiaomi Mi 5 straps... Are they interchangeable?
I’ve read they are but don’t know for sure
Would you still prefer Amazfit Band 5 over the Amazfit GTR 2?
hello, do you think is better to go into Xioami mi band 7 or Amazfit band 5?
They are enduring service with the Amazon Halo so I’m looking for a new replacement. Might have to get it
Hey thanks for the review! I was wondering whether you can use Alexa via the band to send a message? I think Alexa currently can only send texts on Android phones though
I have an iPhone and you can't on that but you may be able to on Android
@@dad.0 thanks for the reply Dad.0!, I gather you can still set reminders/alarms using it with the alexa/iphone?
@@timmmytime6980 yep!
Thumbs up for comparing it to more accurate device
Thanks, Andy
great review. for the readings to be more accurate, you should be wearing the band on the forearm, not on the wrist or the wrist joint, where the bend happens. my experience with previous mibands and amazfit stratos is that readings can get crazy, inaccurate or impossible when the band is too tight, or if you do not place your hand on heart level at the beginning of the workout, or when sweaty or going crazy uphill on a mountain bike. hope that helps.
Thanks for the tips!

I really like my FitBit and it is this one. I only use it to track my steps. I am a Luddite and can't figure out how to do the other stuff nor how to get it to talk to my phone so I can have a record that extends more than 7 days. While you might not have noticed that it can get crazy off on O2 or heart rate, mine most certainly can. In fact it once said my heart rate was 120, then 160ish, then 225ish, in the span of few minutes- I was lying in bed.... Having said all this, I am happy with it. I got it to tell me how far I walk a day, and while that too is off, it does provide me with a good idea of how far I walk a day. I don't suppose you could do a video showing how to use some of the features it has could you? Have you??? Thanks
While your watch might not tell you your heart rate is in the 200-300bpm while sitting, mine has done so on more than 20 occasions. Having said that, I am really happy with mine. The band broke a few days ago, which is annoying. I also wonder about the accuracy of its step count. I have another step counter and the 2 are off by a few hundred steps. I walk between 18,000-23,000 steps a day. Aside from those little things, I am really happy with this and am looking for a new one/upgrade.
I did a ten minute timer. I can't see anything else on the band such as the current time while the timer is on?
Do you get notifications vibrations like phone calls and messages ect...?
Are you able to play music on it through bluethooth, how does that work?
Is it possible to have the display always on?
Does Amazfit 5 give you live heart rate reading or do you have to scan and wait?
You can use a watch face that will give you a live reading of your heart rate
Hi, can you help me in clarifying how many workouts does the band recognize automatically. Is it 2 workouts or 6 Workouts
2
Spo2 is very accurate, but i remove the band, because hair mess the accuracy, i remove the band and i use my finger.
Never thought of that
Will this band display your current pace and distance in the running app?
Yes.
How to switch off step counter when we driving?
It’s on sale right now for $27 :)
Is the sleep tracker accurate?
i would love to grab this watch but as a senior i do not have a Smartphone,i wish you could activate this online!
Does it track steps all throughout the day? like if I choose a sport mode will it still track?
Yes
It is so good
I can’t get my band to power on. I’ve verified that my charging cord is providing voltage to the band. It’s been about 2 hours on the charger and still nothing.
Any idea how long the battery lasts if the face is kept on 24/7?
The face can't be set to always on.
I got one today to use during quarantine instead of Apple Watch BUT I can't get iOS health to get the oxygen data neither exercises are syncing with the iOS Activity app. Have you had these issues?
It syncs with the Apple Health app
@@dad.0 mine isn't syncing footsteps or any activity just heart rate and sleep. All permissions are on 😵 thanks!
Anybody know how well it works while swimming laps?
Does it count steps?
Does it count coreclty the steps? (I heard about xiaomi mi5 that it add alot of steps even when you type at keyboard or,washing theeth)
fairly accurately. I'd say there is a margin of error on all this fitness trackers and this one is smaller compared to most.
$30 at Amazon as of right now, 11/23.
Must buy at that price!
Where can I plug the charger cord???
Dose it works with apple?
Just bought it. Currently $27 dollars
I just use it for the time. 20 days+ battery!
From a 15 year old teen yk my screen time has decreased just from that notification feature all bc when I got a notification I would look and then want to reply now its on my wrist and I don't feel like replying as often 😭
So which would you choose with all the Black Friday sales? galaxy fit 2 vs fitbit inspire 2 vs amazfit band 5?
personally, I am going Amazfit 5 between those
@@dad.0 I think I'm going to go get the amazfit for me and a Galaxy fit 2 for my mom. It looks a bit brighter and probably navigating it would be easier for my mom. Plus the Galaxy fit 2 has the heart rate alert which could be useful. Thanks so much for your review.
@@dbird2997I think your spot on with those choices and reasonings
Spo2 needs pulp of finger for accuracies
Can someone confirm if this really does have Always-On-Display? Thank you. Great review.
Doesn't
it does not work for spo2, heart rate, sleep does anybody know how to work?
Does it have gps tracker??
Is the Spo2 feature accurate? Please Reply🙏🏻
I answer that in the video
@@dad.0 Sorry I Don't Understand English Too Much. Can You Explain It. Please....
@@donidamara1285 In the Video he also tests his Spo2 with a device, that's made for it and it has a difference of 10. So it won't be 100 % accurate.
I like this fit tracker, except it doesn't have a latched control to keep it from falling off your wrist. I have lost 3 Amazon trackers due to this failure.
agreed, the latch sucks
can it show how many calories I have burned.
I do not get 15-day battery life - maybe 5?
Brought a brand new one, but it’s giving me 1 and half day Battery backup. That means every 27 min my amazfit band Battery is draining 1% charge,Without using any feature , just wearing it. Any solution ?
Send it back it's broken.
*_$26 on B&H 4/5/2021_*
Is this better than the honor band 6?
I prefer the honor band 6
How does this compare to the Xiaomi Mi Band 5? they look the same..
Extremely similar
It doesn't have an always-on display right?
@@dad.0 Thanks for the reply. Are you sure? Couple other reviewers are telling there is no always-on display and the website doesn't tell it too.
Sorry, it does not have that right now but could potentially in the future with firmware updates. The issue might be burn in
Stress isn't an algorithm. It is just like heart rate.
It’s calculated using many different factors so it is actually an algorithm. There is no single sensor to tell how stressed you are
On sale for $34 on their official site while supplies last...
Unbelievable price
Does this count how many calories you burned?
yes
The 15-day battery life has never worked for me - at the most 3-1/2 days
Same here. Any issue?
Is there any way to change the font size?
Not that I have seen
On amazon there are lots of prices like 34$ but there is not Alexa built in there don't get fool Alexa built in band cost 45$
Always on display!??
Got this thing for 9$ at Walmart
TO ANYONE HAVING THE ISSUE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO POWER THE WATCH ON, EVEN WHEN CHARGING:
Basically, I contacted the company and it seems that this was a big oversight in the manual. Super great, complex manual, but they forgot to tell you how to turn it on lmao. Basically, the band 5 almost always comes completely dead from the factory. After all, it is a brand new battery. And, with the kind of battery it uses, it takes about 20 minutes to “pop off” and wake up the battery, if you get my drift. So, just plug the watch’s charger into a usb brick and click the other end of the charger onto the back of the watch, and boom. It’s charging. Give it at least 30 minutes , or 60% before the setup process.
NOW: FOR PEOPLE WHO SAY THE BATTETY IS BS
Again, with this kind of battery, it takes 1-2 weeks for it to “grow”, so expect the battery the first couple days to be dismal. But, for me, after 2 weeks, I can last an entire day with everything turned on and go to bed at 80%. That reminds me of Another thing. If there is one thing that smart watch owners hate doing, it’s charging their smart watch. Well, this one charges super quickly. So, i would advise to wear this thing 24/7 (unless you don’t want to wear it to sleep, in that case charge it at night) and only charge it while you are during the shower. It often charges to 99% or so, while i’m in the shower. And I take quick showers. Hope this helps!
I just bought it for € 25
Fitness band with some smart watch functions are so smooth as person on the wrist! Its on avereg a smoother experenc then a full smartwatch,....while other people see Just another black bar on a wrist.
The OS is very smooth`
This is hard to use for me. I will return it
50$? I think you mean 15$, at least that's what I paid for mine from Walmart.
Just got for 14 pound
Way too heavy 😂(American dad joke)
You never spend 50 bucks on a hotel in a bad valuta country?the moment is there....my mk is cracked.this is the second time I see this, so I typed it in to see the charger...lol!because I want fitness again this or samsung fit 2
Not yet!
The amazfit band has higher HR accuracy then the apple watch
I just got one for nine dollars
doesnt work with TLC android 10 phone, waste of money
Guys just buy it of argos its cheaper
mi band 5 is 27$
Great price!
I paid It 34€ (40$)
Great deal!
@@dad.0 Just bought it yesterday for £31, waiting for deliver now.
I've checked a few reviews on it and most seem really impressed with it, accurate most of the time but sometimes can go off a little, I did hear that if you do any runs, it's best to use the gps on your phone and not the normal step counting on the watch as the phone tends to be a lot more accurate.
Anyway, for the price point, I bought it as a disposable item as it's my first fitness tracker and didn't want to spend too much on my first one without seeing how good they are but overall, this one looks quite promising.
🤑💵
Trash how do you turn it ???
At first this device seems a bargain for the features offered. Unfortunately, in use it proves to be a big let down. For example, it can't perform basic tasks like capture mileage during exercise (in my case a bike ride), van after syncing with the app. Also, there is no facility to manually enter steps, so if the bulk of your exercise isn't walking then this device is useless for capturing basic health data. Avoid.
Interesting. Thanks for the info
lol no
Lol I got it for 15 pounds
this band is a piece of junk, it doesn't pair with my phone and there's no solution anywhere
You might have a bad on. I had no problems pairing to android or iOS.
Not a well planned, takes forever to find out what I need to know.
