Akane is the happiest drummer on the planet! Kanami is looking a Miku with that look cause she forgot the words before, and it's fun to mess with the small Pigeon, lol!
I love the way Akane interprets the music... She is not just good at playing drums she's good at making them fit the music... More like a composer and not just a drummer.
I love the way Kanami moves up next to Miku alot. You see it in alot of their videos. The teacher providing reassurance in the middle of a show. You can tell that's what she's doing. Sensei extraordinaire
She did that in that gig because the gig before Miku screwed it up because she was laughing at something one of the band did......Kanami does it at just about every performance now 😂
There's a reason Jimmy Page requested to meet Akane after watching her play a show. He was very impressed with her drumming. When they told her after the show, she thought they were just messing with her until he actually showed up. There's a picture of the two of them floating around the internet. They apparently talked with each other for awhile and he had alot of praise for her.
Band-Maid is just frickin´ awesome! In my book the best band right now and if aliens attack the earth and the only thing that will save us is a drumsolo i would pick Akane Hirose to perform it! Not just because she is a really really good drummer, but also because of her smile ALL THE TIME! The aliens will fall in love with her :) Greetings from Germany P.S.: Pick any Band-Maid song MV or live, it doesn´t matter they are around for 8 years, they have 100 songs and there is not a bad one. BUT if you wanna hear something with an huge punk vibe and an KILLER guitarsolo watch the MV Blooming!
Misa's bass is her Signature model by Black Cloud built with the Gibson EB style/shape body (bass equivalent of the SG body), the EB-0 and EB-3 are typical as played by Jack Bruce of Cream fame and James Dewar (RiP) of Robin Trower fame to name just a few. Cheers!
The whole thing about BM for me is that they are all so prominent in their "area" and it shows. But as a band they are so together and tight in every way. There doesn't seem to be any ego in anything they do, it's all about the total sound.
Exactly! This song is (another) perfect example. Akane gets a much-deserved long solo and transitions to Kanami, who plays a little shorter one than you might expect. Doesn't want to steal Akane's moment. And shoutout to the best drum-guitar transition ever :)
There is an endless supply of good choices of Band-Maid songs to choose from. They have over 100 songs in their catalog now.... and almost every one of them is a great song. They don't record any duds.
Perhaps one of their more simple songs, but it's also one of their most energetic. It's practically become a staple at their shows and even with a catalog as large as theirs, it's one they almost always include. Really gets the crowd going!
Akane has developed her own style on the drum, which I can hear in almost every song they write. She constantly does breaks, dublets, tripplets and is still on beat like a metronome.
What's super impressive is that Akane is playing through a click track and doing her solo, Po! With Kanami (Lead G), we finally get to hear a lot more of her throughout the live "No God" MV.
Watch how much fun their having together no one noticed the lead and rhythm guitarist are head banging together and the rhythm guitarist falls at the end nobody's ever noticed that they're just an amazing Kick-Ass band
Speaking of the song Freedom, it was a few years back that while playing this song at Zepp Tokyo, Saiki gets pulled into the crowd, lost her shoes and Miku has to finish singing the song. This all happened right before they played their song Real Existence, which makes it a great song to follow up with. Plus Kanami's guitar is a bit louder in that recording and she plays it awesome as usual. ua-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/v-deo.html
It’s an older song, it was written for them and one of the few they still play live from the early early stuff. But they love playing this one live and they just have a ton of fun with it and have made it it their own.

The thing that gets me the most about this drum solo is that she is laughing her ass off as she's doing it. As far as I know, that's about as much swagger a drummer could possibly demonstrate. She reminds me of Chad Smith but she's got the energy he had 20 years ago and didn't refuse to play a double kick

They always put a smile on my face and I saw you had the Band-Maid smile also. This band can't be stopped. Feel better. Peace.
I would like to recommend "Onset" Official Live video as your next reaction. It's an instrumental with solos from all the members. Hope you get better soon.
In 2016, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin caught a performance of Band-Maid in Tokyo and asked for a photo-op with their drummer, Akane Hirose. Reportedly he told her that she was like a reincarnation of John Bonham. For those who don't know, BAND-MAID played in the Classic Rock Awards 2016 and received the Japan Next Generation prize. After the show Jimmy Page, asked Akane for a photo.

Akane's style - Happy pop-punk smash! In terms of hearing the lead guitar, it's the mix on this specific show. In the Studio Coast show, or the Zepp Tokyo show, Kanami is more prominent in the mix.
I think I mentioned on another video that the only disappointing thing about this particular concert was the mix and the lack of presence of Kanami. The Zepp Tokyo concert recording was way better. I think Akane has to be the happiest rock drummer I've ever seen. That smile of hers is worth a million.

They have a few concert DVD’s out (this is from the most recent one; the others are out of print), and yes indeed Kanami’s guitar is mixed a little lower. If you want something with more prominent guitar mixing live, the easiest to find is “Real Existence (live)”, available on their official channel. Other songs from earlier concerts are still available off UA-cam, but any uploads to UA-cam are frequently deleted, though reactions to said videos seem safe for now. Puzzle, Moratorium, Take Me Higher, and Don’t You Tell Me are all excellent live performances. Also, while the live videos are praised for their energy and in many cases the extra solos and additional flair added in, don’t discount their music videos, especially if you want to hear the guitar a bit more. Personally, I’m a big fan of Blooming, Bubble, Non-Fiction Days, Manners, Dice, and Secret My Lips for a selection of songs that don’t have a great live recording

I read an interview that included the whole band and they described how they write songs. All of them, minus Misa, collaborate on the songs asking Kanami if she agrees with modifications to her music. Miku writes all of the lyrics. When the role of the bass came up Kanami said that part belongs to Misa. Misa then described her method of writing music that compliments each song. The interview is on Reddit. Almost forgot to add an important point-most of them started with piano playing classical music.

You gotta check out some of their new stuff! Warning is a great hard rock track where every instrument and vocal shines. Manners is a very bluesy, kinda mellowish song. And Diffferent was created as an opening for an anime and is blazing fast and relentless. Hopefully you pick one that you'll like!
Awesome reaction! I could tell that you really enjoyed that drum solo. And you are right about the guitar. Many others commented on how low in the mix it is. Not sure if it's by design but the drums and bass are always higher in the mix. Enjoy your BAND-MAID run! Looking forward to the next one 👍

@@RyanMear - yes, and there are more; that's a good sampling. Hundreds. The worst are mostly good. The best are batshit insane excellent. And some weird artistic shit that will be both hated and loved. Japan is home to a majority of the best rock and metal bands there are right now. It's like nuclear reaction hitting "critical mass" inspiring each other. I haven't heard all the bands up there, but most of them, and others that are pretty freakin' awesome. Since first hearing Band-Maid about five years ago, I have been wandering around this Wonderland checking out more and more artists in amazement. Aw hell lemme throw these few in: Lazy Guns Brisky - Navy Star Rie a.k.a. Suzaku - great guitarist, anything recent will be more or less jazz fusion. Fern Planet also sounds jazz fusion to me. The guitarist's earlier band Rick Rack broke up when they graduated high school. Remarkably cool sound. Anything jazz with Senri Kawaguchi drumming. Subtle percussion? Yep. Show-Ya hit the hard rock music scene in 1981 and true to their name and determination, blasted stereotypes of women not being suited to play that way, and much more beyond music. They are the biggest reason why all-female bands are so plentiful, inspired, and excelling even today in Japan. Keiko!!
Main reason Kanami guitar is low in mix was due to the sound recording used arena mics, this was analysed on a UK recording channel by a sound engineer. Who thinks the arena mics cancelled out the main channel of Kanami's channel. Not sure really how maybe a sound editing issue.
This song, like Domination you reacted to, is from the Shibuya Concert of February 2020. For whatever reason, Kanami's guitar is dialed back a little in the mix in the final production of that concert. Its hard not to smile watching this video because the band is obviously having fun and smiling. Its also cool that, if you noticed it in the foreground, the rest of the band is clapping and cheering for Akane during the solo. I enjoyed your reaction and glad to see you are doing well. As far as future suggestions, if you are going the MV route, I would suggest Rinne (MV-their heaviest song to date imo), Blooming (MV), Manners (MV-has a real retro rock vibe, off new album -same one as No God), Warning (Again off the new album). Still, maybe you should give one of their rock ballads a try, and Daydreaming (MV) would be perfect for that. As far as live, one of the ones from the older concert may be fun for you to hear Kanime's guitar more in the mix and I would first and foremost suggest the instrumental Onset (Live), but videos for Cross (Live) and Real Existence (Live) are both on their you tube channel as well. Have a great one!
@@RyanMear Music Video, Just a way to differentiate between the "live performance videos" and "regular music videos". I know that its not the clearest way, but not thought of a better way lol
This video made me fall in love with Band-Maid. I know it's a simpler song and not one that they completely wrote themselves (except I think Miku helped with lyrics), but they're so comfortable playing it like it's natural, and because of that, they move around the stage a lot and have a lot of fun. I would imagine it's like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes for them, so they can just go out and have fun and give off a ton of energy. It's just a great feel-good fan favorite song. The drum solo, which was as melodic as drums could be, which lead into the guitar transition and solo work so well and just get the listener fired up. I wish there was a digital version of this so I can enjoy it all the time lol.

Aw hell lemme throw these few in:
Lazy Guns Brisky - Navy Star
Rie a.k.a.
Keiko!!
Show-Ya was doing this in 81? Cool
Main reason Kanami guitar is low in mix was due to the sound recording used arena mics, this was analysed on a UK recording channel by a sound engineer. Who thinks the arena mics cancelled out the main channel of Kanami's channel. Not sure really how maybe a sound editing issue.
i'd like to think akane just went nuclear fusion for a few bars there...
She reminds me of Buddy Rich !!!
Ok, what is "MV"?
@@RyanMear Music Video, Just a way to differentiate between the "live performance videos" and "regular music videos". I know that its not the clearest way, but not thought of a better way lol
I kept seeing it and kept thinking "I'll get it soon...." finally just had to ask. Ha, thanks
@@RyanMear Hey, I been hanging about the reaction scene for quite awhile and still get lost in the lingo at times haha. See ya next reaction!
