I’m playing a Carvin AC375 Thinline True Acoustic Electric Guitar. They recently changed their name to Kiesel Carvin Guitars. Carvin / Kiesel are cool guitars because you can build to order right on their site. There is a great Hawaiian connection, Kiesel was started as a Hawaiian Steel guitar company in 1946. I’ve been playing Carvin guitars for over 35 years. Check them out at www.carvinguitars.com.
John Pearse Strings!
Also using a custom Koa guitar built by Rollo Scheurenbrand!

Thanks! Great instruction.
I love these vamps. You can change the speed and cadence and sounds like a whole new song.
Mahalo Harry for these great lessons, I lived on Maui for 12 years and now live on the north coast of Cali. Been home sick for Maui for a few years and decided to put some time in on learning Slack Key, makes me feel right at home when i play and here it. This lesson is great because I can see what your thumb is doing on the Base strings. that has been difficult separating my thumb from what the rest of my fingers need to be doing.

Aloha Terry!
Thank you for reaching out and making my day!
I'm glad that the lessons are helping you to feel at home! There are so many styles of slack key,
I'm still studying and sharing and I'm glad you like it! Please tell your friends and keep in touch!Mahalo! :)
Aloha Harry, yes you are a good teacher and I like it that you add the tab, which is contrary to the 'Hawaiian' way of teaching, of 'watch, listen and play'. I like to start s-l-o-w-l-y, reading the tab and get the fingering correct, and will pick up the guitar any time of day to just practice a few bars. Unfortunately at 74, no not bpm, my age, :-) it takes a bit longer to memorise tunes, but, I am getting there. Mahalo for your videos.
I once went out with a Hawaiian vamp.
My 2nd slack key lesson back in '74 was "da vamp". My kumu made me play vamps for 2 hours. I couldn't repeat a vamp, because "can play any kine as long as it fit." Great exercise!
+Kory Tideman Mahalo. Keep working.
+Harry's Guitar Too good!
hi! a little confused with the tab. it looks like in the first phrase in the tab you hold the first fret of the 2nd string, but in the video i think im seeing you hold down the first fret of the first string. can someone help me out? :)
This is so hard ! I have much practicing to do...
