I'm sorry folks but I had completely the opposite experience with a replacement kit I just purchased from All Balls. It was a standard kit - but marketed as an upgrade. The inner primary bearing that came with the kit was noticeably inferior to the OEM in several respects. The lateral movement on the bearing cage was frightening. The outer casting looked like rough cut ceder - more like a cheap chinese knock off. It's against my religion to not replace a bearing when on a new install of a main shaft, but when I saw how the original bearing with 20K on it was tighter than the brand new one I got spooked and left the original installed. - Extremely pissed that this is passed off as a superior bearing. Seal quality was excellent though; what you'd expect from Jims or Genuine.
I bought the upgrade didn't work for me it was to wide . i was going to use it on a 1989 Harley FLHS . The main shaft on my bike is tapered . when I installed the clutch basket and tightened the nut to torque it pushed the bearing bar tight I couldn't turn the shaft . damaged the bearing now I have to take it back out and install a new original bearing. I had no luck with the upgrade.
Can you please put a vid on how you fit the wider bearing into casing and just one cer-clip, what stops it coming out and hitting the clutch basket ? Thanks
you probably already figured it out but the c-clip goes on the clutch side. The bearing on the sprocket side is 'held in' by the seal which is against the main shaft. I put a small o-ring between the quad seal and the inner primary seal just to make sure the quad seal doesn't walk out. Not sure if I needed to do that but 4000 miles later... zero leaks.
Allright. I ate the rotor in my primary. Ordered these because of a suspect leak. This kit off the net is on par with Harley's price for the bearing. But, here its an actual upgrade. The best investment any biker can make. Buy the book for your scoot. Not the owners manual but the shop manual. Hold Harley accountable for any changes that come out.
