Loving the use of the leaked audio chunks of I am a laser, shilling the rubes, and the early take of Young Americans. Hopefully we’ll actually be able to hear the full versions of those songs some day. Maybe for Young American’s 45th anniversary next year? Oh and it’s great to see Dennis getting recognition for the great work he did.
@@jacobh9344 yeah I really enjoyed hearing them the day they leaked. Probably a bit too much as I reuploaded them to my channel and received some copyright strikes and takedown, which didn't seem to happen to anyone else.
You're incredibly lucky kid!! That's TONY VISCONTI were talking about Edit: You're dad was a beast too though! I was confused when I found this vid and posted the comment upon first reaction, but after seeing that his dad was Dennis Davis, well... Im sorry !! (I didn't know!)
@@delinseurn Yeah. He was Stevie's drummer from '77 to '82 in between committments Bowie and Roy Ayers. Stevie wrote it not long after 'Songs in the Key of Life' came out and MJ used most of the same players as heard on Stevie's demo. He also plays on Jermaine's "Let's Get Serious".
Bowie worked with many amazing drummers, but Dennis was arguably the best. There was always something that stood out with him and his playing. I think the first footage I saw of Dennis was the concert in Tokyo 1978 where he decided to wear a gorilla mask for half of the show. I have no idea why he did that, but I thought it was cool. But it was his playing that really made him stand out, without ever overshadowing Bowie or the songs.

I remember watching the Cavett episode like it was yesterday. I've been a fan that long (longer, actually), so I can tell you I'm really enjoying this series!
Again, thank you so much Hikaru! I am so looking forward to the upcoming videos and the rest of your interview with Tony Visconti. I am very grateful for the opportunity to learn more about your dad and his fantastic musicianship.
Well done, Hikaru, this series is a great tribute to your dad, who along with Carlos and George formed the rhythm section of the century. Always interesting to hear Tony talk about his work with Bowie and his bands. And thanks Nacho for the footage and for putting these videos together.
This project kills me. This particular period WON me over as a lifelong BOWIE RIP fan. RIGHT his my fav BOWIE song. Great to learn the host's dad played kit on it. I don't know who brainstormed and executed this series but the journalism is outstanding and the host moves things with alacrity. Wild to hear DAVIS had never heard BOWIE. Wild to recall BOWIE did not eat three meals a day in the 70s.
Thank you so much for this excellent video and rare material, Hikaru. I wonder if some day a full video of the diamond dogs tour will be released. Even if quality might be bad I really would lik to see more of the tour.
Dennis Davis was one of the best drummers ever to work with David Bowie. Thanks for this Hikaru!
His BEST drummer.
I was lucky enough to be in the audience for this!!!!!!
Thanks for all !!!
Wow. Wow! *WOW!* Congratulations. This is such an important document. Thank you all for sharing these stories!
Sorry about your father’s passing. He played on my favorite albums ever. Thank you so much for sharing these stories.

THE TIME HAS COME!!! We have Laser, Rubes and the rest of that tape (including Ava Cherry singing Sweet Thing)! Finally :)

Speaking of Dennis and your pfp, he actually played on "I Can't Help It".

Brilliant! Nacho! Hikaru Davis, you project is wonderful! Congrats to all.
So Good !! Best Regards
Loved Dennis Davis. One of my faves is that rapid fire on the studio version of Beauty and the Beast. Got to see him 1978 at MSG

Great footage!
Davis drumming on Bowie's Up the hill backwards is nothing but amazing. I have to listen to it every now and then.
Yet another great interview... Keep going Hikaru!
Love Dennis. This is so great. Again, THANK YOU!
I think this is phenomenal!

1984 was off Diamond Dogs. Bowie had already moved on to Young Americans. Imagine having that much talent waiting to be released!
Wonderful stuff. Shame you can't fully hear what Dennis says at the end of it.
At the end, Dennis says, "It felt like I was working with a genius".
What kind of an answer do you want me to give you?
@@TheHDProjects Thanks.
No Bowie without The Beatles though.I'm a huge Bowie fan but The Beatles started it all.

A note to nachos:
You only had to show their chat man.
The performing is perfect..but the interview to forgiven.its weird.too much coke.i think
