This is actually the first album where he focused mainly on vocals. They have a new guy playing drums. He’s bad ass and he had an AMAZING mustache. I really feel like the vocals for this music is perfectly placed and performed because Donovan was able to really give his all vocally.
I saw them live twice. Once opening for Polyphia on their The Most Hated tour (Covet also opened; another sick drummer in that band). Hail the Sun was touring Mental Knife at the time. Then I saw them again on the Mental Knife headliner with Strawberry Girls and Royal Coda opening. Driving 5 hrs each way to see them both times. Would love to see more reactions from them in the future. They did hire a touring drummer btw. The guys name is Allen Casillas. He was the drummer for one of the opening bands, VIS, on their headline tour and then he has been playing with them a lot since. Allen has a glorious moustache in person and plays on their newest song as well. And live they switched off some songs. Donovan drummed a couple songs live, but was doing a lot more singing and moving around. His stage presence is very strong when hes not behind the kit.
My brother's view on this band is a long one. He remembers hearing a lot of stuff that led to here. He specifically mentioned Circus Survive as you did, but also Chasing Victory and Fall of Troy. This band is amazing.
You gotta check out A Lot Like Birds, too. They've got kiiiind of a similar vibe and they're sooo good. Artifex Pereo is also great and fits in this kind of vibe too.
I always had so much trouble getting into them over the past 5 years, but Domino absolutely blew me away and got me very hooked to them. Such a crazy good song and album

I'm definitely going to have to check this album out. This single really grabbed me. If you like this then you would really dig Dreamwell's new album Modern Grotesque. It's my favorite post-hardcore album of the year by far, and a major AOTY contender for me.
This whole album is absolutely amazing. There is also an instrumental version and it's so damn good too. So much you get to hear that you missed with the vocals layered on top. Check it out
The whole album is almost like an homage to At the Drive-In/Mars Volta, peppered with Circa Survive and a side of DGD. Super unique, and gets better with every listen. Album of the year

This is easily their best album since "Wake." Some of the tracks give me some serious Mars Volta/Closure in Moscow vibes, especially "Misfire."
Man, I could not agree more. Honestly one of the best post-hardcore albums in years. Easily their best since "Wake."
