Nice of you to cover this inexpensive piece of gear. I noticed you didn‘t directly comment on the quality of sound as you perceive it, nor on how responsive it is (which would obviously have something to do with latency). I understand that testing this for latency might be overkill for such a cheap device not intended to replace any of the bigger, better units. That said, I have the Pocket Master (got it 2 days ago) and am delighted with what it can do - not just for practice, but - in my special case - also for live. Why? Because I am a solo singer and guitar player who plays about 80% acoustic and 20% electric guitar at gigs. I needed something small, all-in-one and easy to use for basic electric guitar tones, these being good enough for my audiences (who don‘t care about tonal perfection, but more about singing, emotional impact, fun, etc.) I am running it after my TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Extreme. It is plugged into the „Thru“ (untreated) output of the VL3X so that it‘s not in the signal chain for my acoustic guitar. This is especially good because the VL3X only has a global (!) cab sim on/off setting that cannot be stored by preset, and I don‘t want the frequencies of my acoustic guitar getting colored by a „cab sim“ kind of EQ. Thanks to the Pocket Master, I can route both instruments into the VL3X (via a simple Mooer AB/Y) switch so either one serves as the basis of recognizing the key I’m playing in, for the purpose of auto-generated the right vocal harmonies. The electric goes through untreated, and the presets on the VL3X make the acoustic sound great. The electric gets all its good sound on the way out of the VL3X, and then goes to the PA. This makes for a very simple setup…and when I choose to do a gig without electric, I can just leave the Pocket Master in my gear box. By the way: Your review says the PM has „no foot switches“. This is technically true, but the two rubber switches can quite easily be used by foot. Just be careful not to stomp on it too hard. You can also easily press on both to mute and tune. The tuner works great, even in my standard tuning, which is C# standard.
Hi, i've buy ampero 2 stomp last month and for the price the sounds are realy great. I have pleasure to prépare New presets. It May be an option for you !

Nice review, and Leo, your song is really nice! I liked the very subtile voices in the background especially! It’s exactly the right volume. Makes the song more interesting, does not disrupt the guitar parts

According to the Sonicake website, the Pocket Master is 24-bit 44.1KHz . I just checked, on January 27. Great review. I appreciate that you soloed the tracks used in the example. I have a Matribox 2, and have just ordered a Pocket Master so I can have parallel signal chains, including guitar synth. The Matribox 2 is the best value piece of equipment ever, especially since I bought it when the Pro was released, and it was half the price of the Matribox 2 Pro. Total cost for the two units, $AUD320, or around $US200. Two Pocket Masters, some A/B switches, maybe two volume pedals, such as I’m using, would be an awesome mini rig. That’s a huge amount of sonic potential for $200. I notice that the Pocket Master doesn’t have send/return, but that can’t really be expected in such a small form factor.
Hi, the internal signal processor is at 24bit, but the audio interface is at 16 bit. These are the USB Recording Specifications written in the user manual: - Sample Rate: 44.1kHz; - Bit Depth: 16-bit Thank you for sharing your findings and I'm happy that you appreciate the video!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks for clarifying that. I’m quite happy with those specs. I understand that your recording system is set up for 24-bit digital data, but is there a particular reason that you would not choose to use the Pocket Master audio out, and record that on your 24-bit system ?
Hi, the reason is that when I practice I can came out with ideas for songs and I want to be able to record them....but I may be on the go...or not in my studio...If I don't have a good audio interface, I then have to record everything again. But this is my workflow as I said in the video...And that may not be a problem for you.
It seems this unit can run NAM profiles changing the Basic Mode to Clone Mode on the Amp.... Would be nice to see a Null test with it, could be a cheap alternative to the NAM Player

That demo is something i would buy Leo...beautiful. I really wish you could start doing a tone rating on your demos...maybe a 10 or 20 scale. What would you rate it by tone and feel ,articulation and string seperation ?
Thanks Leo for the Demo. I use for practicing Mvave Blackbox found in AliExpress which is in the same price range but it takes amp captures, audio Bluetooth streaming and has foot switch the only thing missing is a looper. In terms of sound quality, no much difference with tonex one, I used to convert quad cortex and tonex captures to Ann profiles and they sound pretty good, the IR that it takes seems to be 2048. May be worth reviewing
You are welcome and thank you so much for sharing your practicing tool! Yes, the mvave is another unit I need to check out....I'm not able to find the time...
Leo, excelent review. Please, do a comparison between the "entry units with expression pedal " category, like Sonicake Matribox, Zoom G1X Four and others. This would be very interesting as this category is champion in sales. I think that the more important is the quality of modeling. Congratulations for the channel, it's the best.
I'm using my new Headrush Flex Prime for practice with a small bluetooth speakers, after some tweaking, it sounds really good! The bassman model has me impressed. The looper is great, the pc editor is simple, some weird effects are actually usable and the bluetooth/wifi connectivity is great for cloud presets and managing the audio of the computer. No compains yet. The only thing is that the new GS1000Li has me impressed also with the battery and size, but I don't really profile amps, it has the same 14 blocks and it doesn't have expression pedal. I will probably buy one to use it along the flex prime on the gigboard so I can have a ridiculous amount of effects. About the Pocket Master. I think is absolutley great, it's minusculus, has touch screen, Ir, great modern digital modeler quality sound, it has battery and it's only $65, even if you don't really need it, you can buy it no problem. I want to get one ASAP and attach it with a 3d printed stand on an Edwards mini les paul custom with incorporated amp (and replace the stock amp with a jbl mini speaker or something). The perfect traveler electric guitar. Also my 2 cents. I saw on a post here in youtube that the new update was supposed to have Sonicake's Sound Clone technology, but they decided to wait because it was not stable enough yet. They also announced that the pocket master will have midi controllability soonish. I wish more companies would get on board with NAM with dedicated hardware that it's on the computing level to run it to it's max potential like the Dimehead. Specially after you comparisson video. Great video as always. I'm looking forward to NAMM 2025, the Joyo Gem Box K8 and the rumours about a new bigger ToneX pedal!
Thank you so much for sharing your findings!!! All interesting stuff! Let me just give a little correction: the pocket master does not have a touch screen. Thanks!
Leo, To your question about praticing tools, I use Mainstage on my M1 mac through a VOLT 476 audio interface with a pair of Yamaha HS-50 speakers. The guitar software running in Mainstage is NAM or AMplitube / Tonex. When I am away I simply plug into a small 5 watt VOX practice amp that I've had for more than 10 years now. It runs on batteries so I can play (quietly) outside.
This is great, thank you Leo! I might get one for my nephew who is just starting guitar! Actually I use a nux mighty plug for practice and might get one for myself - I wonder if it works with the M-vave chocolate BT footswitch... that could be a lot of cheap, silent fun!

I'd be cautious now of things company's can shut down, like an app that a pedal relies on to function. Thanks for the review !!! Have a great day Leo !!!!! 👍😁👍
Hi Leo, an excellent, well structured and informative review, as ever. Really enjoyed the demo track! How does the overall sound compare to the larger Sonicake Matribox units? Would you be happy to use it as a practice tool (aside from the 16-bit audio interface)? Shame about the latter, especially as the rest of the internal processing appears to be 24-bit. Obviously a cost- cutting measure, but perhaps not a wise one.
wow this is the device that I'm most exicted! mainly because of the portability and features. Do you know if it can record both dry and wet signals? (L=wet/R=dry). That would be really helpful in recording. thanks!!
Thank you! Mooer so far did not send me a unit to check out...therefore we have to wait and see if in the future they will send me a unit. But you know...there could be many reasons why they did not sent me a unit...for instance the latency could be not good or the null test performances could be not good...and of course each gear builder has to do his own choices. Thank you!
For practice I use Nux Mighty Space. It has decent speakers, it is battery powered and portable, it has a 30 sec looper with a drum machine, it has a smartphone app to control all parameters and play background tracks via blue tooth, and the modelling is really good. It is the complete and perfect practice machine. I only wish there were more drum patterns, or that they were programmable, and the looper was longer (30 sec is not enough for a 12 bar blues at reasonably slow bpm). Also for looping I wish it had a bass guitar emulation by means of octave down pitch shift, for which I am forced to use either Digitech Drop or my Headrush MX5 (both of which work fine). I am hoping for a Mighty Space MkII with these features included.
This looks like a great practice tool or a first "amp/processor" for a new guitarist so they can learn totally silent in their room. I have the Matribox II and really like it. Sonicake is on their game for sure! Thanks for the great review as always! God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸
Hi Leo, I bought the unit - is the looper just 10s, or can it be switched to mono with longer looping time ? Also, apparently now the unit can load nano NAM ?
Hi Alex, for a practicing tool so cheap, my impression is that we don't need a latency test...but let me see how many of you require the test... Thanks!
Hey Leo. Not to derail the comments on this, but I'm really hoping to see you do a video on the Mooer GS-1000. The feature set looks pretty great for the price. I'd be super interested to see how it stacks up technically vs Tonex / QC. Keep up the great work.
Thank you! Mooer so far did not send me a unit to check out...therefore we have to wait and see if in the future they will send me a unit. But you know...there could be many reasons why they did not sent me a unit...for instance the latency could be not good or the null test performances could be not good...and of course each gear builder has to do his own choices. Thank you!
Do you have 1.1 loaded up yet. We need some null test done from the unit with NAM files. Yes full NAM rigs will play in this unit now. However when you run any Amp capture the IR block is turned off and disabled. I bought a second one just to use it for an IR loader. Yeah its only 65 bucks why not right? lol I heard from the grapevine that the Chocolaate should be up and running with the SPM in the next few weeks. Some guys on the NAM groups are saying the file format is changed so it dont sound as good. I think they just have to change teh file ext. to a licensed software version for Sonicake to be legal is all.
Hi, good point! I have uploaded the FW and load a nam file into the Pocket Master and yes...it works...Now I need to do some tests (for instance latency, null test)....and then I will let you know....thakns!
@@LeoGibsonGtr So far Im in love with this thing. I do not think there is any file or software changes. I think people just cant accept that it can do this because its so cheap. When compared to my Tone X One to my ears it sounds every bit as good. It by far easier to use and is way more functional.
Hi. Tx for the review. Just one question: Has the resolution changed with the latest update since all the Sonicake sites are listing it as 24 bit / 44.1 kHz ?
Hello. I'm looking for a small gear to practice in my office with a steinberger guitar. This will be a god tool for me and the price is ridiculous. Thank's from France Léo !👍
I purchased the new mooer 150 pro Very happy with my purchase The fact that you can down load captures of other amps is great and they sound really good Only complaint is that you can’t move blocks but for a basic good sounding multi effects it’s great I have mx5 took me along to get a good sound but the mooer wins for easy use and sound set up
@@manfredworner8528 interesting its 80 seconds for you. A few have replied to me and mentioned its 10 seconds on their unit. I wonder if its 10 seconds in "dry" mode and youve managed to change the mode - What I mean by that is the 10 seconds is a straight recording, even if you change patch it wont change - which takes more memory to do. Others have said they dont know if you can change it, but if you've got it at 80 seconds record, maybe that is the mode where when you change patch, the loop changes, which takes less memory (and as such longer record time possible)
@ no I didn’t change anything on mode I can change patches with out any issues so far that’s with the 150 pro mooer But I have ordered sonicake pocket master should be here next week
Good review! I' ve just purchase it. I also own a Matribox II and I'm very satisfied. The pocket master for the price is very good pratice modeler, better than my Nux Mighty Plug (not pro) and near to my Positive Grid Spark Go (The software bundle app of the spark is in a different league but the Spark cost 2/3 times the Pocket Master). Cons: -I've found some sporadic cracking noises with high gain amps like when you fiddle with an oxidized volume pot. I hope will be fixed with new firmware. -The app for android smartphone is not in Google Play and has to be installed manually. I don't know why some China manufacturer provide the app in the Apple Store but not in Google Play store. It was the same for my M-vave Chocolate Plus wireless footswitch and his Cubesuite app. It's quite annoying.
Oh great, someone with it - I've got a question about the looper, how long is the recording length? I am super interested in getting this, basically as a "replacement" for my NUX mighty plug myself - just for the tuner and looper option.
@@damianhannon1581 I don't remember how long the looper is, I will check an let you know. I hope that with a new firmware they will implement MIDI as indicate on the FAQ on Sonicake site. Corrently I use a M-vave Chocolate Plus as a wireless footswitch for my Nux Mighty plug and I would like to do the same with the Pocket Master ( the two buttons don't seems to be designed for use with foots). I've tried but even if the Chocolate Plus and the Pocket Master succesfully paired via BT , it seem that the Pocket Master doesn't accept basic Midi CC and PC commands.
@@damianhannon1581the looper is just 10 second, moreover it record the guitar dry signal so if you change patch during playback the sound change, and also the looper doesn't record the drum machine or maybe I don't undestand how to do it.
Can't wait for the ultimate practicing tool. A machine that generates backing tracks based on what keys you select. One that lets you choose different chords, scales and techniques to practice. All these amp models, IRs, cabinets, effects I think distract me more rather than, help me practice
Ottima recensione come sempre Leo, ma ha lo streaming bluetooth per suonare su una backin track ? Se non ha questa funzionalità mi sembrerebbe una grave lacuna
Grazie Leo! Per colpa tua lo comprerò. Scherzi a parte .
Hi, it depends from your needs. Ergonomically they are pretty different...in terms of sound they are boot good enough....and it depends on how you use it...just for practicing? for recording? etc. Thanks
Hi, I typically do separated videos with the latency, for instance I have just release a video about the latency of the Sonulab Stompstation. I try not to overload you with latency videos...and you know...the measurements take work and time. Furthermore, I thought that for a device like this, practicing oriented, latency was not such an important measurements. Thank you!
For this price you can't expect nothing more...nevertheless I think that the internal (non repleaceable) battery is just planned obscolescence: once exhausted, you know, everything is going to go to the dustbin...
@joaquin8637 maybe, but you have to open the device (if possible), then you have to locate the battery, remove it (if possible) and then solder the new one that you have ordered (if it works), and close the encasement, hoping not to destroy everything in the process...who is going to do this for a 60 dollars device?
@@GreenHoleSun As long as you can open the device without destroying it, and if it is possible to order a battery with the same specs, battery replacement can be done either at home or by a smartphone service shop.

Thank you for sharing Andrey!
Yes, that's another interesting tool!
Hi, thank you for pointing it out...actually I have not yet check out the looper time and the nam feature....
No latency test?
Hi Alex, for a practicing tool so cheap, my impression is that we don't need a latency test...but let me see how many of you require the test...
Thanks!
on a $60 unit
@@LeoGibsonGtr Yes, please a latency test!
Hey Leo. Not to derail the comments on this, but I'm really hoping to see you do a video on the Mooer GS-1000. The feature set looks pretty great for the price. I'd be super interested to see how it stacks up technically vs Tonex / QC. Keep up the great work.

I think they just have to change teh file ext. to a licensed software version for Sonicake to be legal is all.
so that means I can load a NAM file in the amp section? but then no IR?
Hi, good point! I have uploaded the FW and load a nam file into the Pocket Master and yes...it works...Now I need to do some tests (for instance latency, null test)....and then I will let you know....thakns!
@@SCHNIERElektrostatik correct. I ordered a second one to use as an IR loader. They are only 65 bucks!!
@ They are also working on getting the Chocolate to work with it as well. This thing is going to be big.
@@LeoGibsonGtr So far Im in love with this thing. I do not think there is any file or software changes. I think people just cant accept that it can do this because its so cheap. When compared to my Tone X One to my ears it sounds every bit as good. It by far easier to use and is way more functional.
Quick question,
How long is the looper length?
Is the bass sound the same as first paddle
Hi, I'm sorry, what is "first paddle"?
Thanks!
Hi. Tx for the review. Just one question: Has the resolution changed with the latest update since all the Sonicake sites are listing it as 24 bit / 44.1 kHz ?
Hi the internal signal processing is at 24 bit , but the usb audio interface, as stated in the user manual is at 16. Thanks
@@LeoGibsonGtr lol. tx - totally expected both being the same .... like probably 90% of people reading it ... pretty sneaky ;-)
Yes, that's also one of the reason why I pointed out I the review
THanks!
Hello. I'm looking for a small gear to practice in my office with a steinberger guitar. This will be a god tool for me and the price is ridiculous. Thank's from France Léo !👍
You are welcome and thank you for sharing your findings!
I purchased the new mooer 150 pro
Very happy with my purchase
The fact that you can down load captures of other amps is great and they sound really good
Only complaint is that you can’t move blocks but for a basic good sounding multi effects it’s great
I have mx5 took me along to get a good sound but the mooer wins for easy use and sound set up
Quick question to someone with it, how long is the looper length?
@ 80s
@@manfredworner8528 interesting its 80 seconds for you. A few have replied to me and mentioned its 10 seconds on their unit. I wonder if its 10 seconds in "dry" mode and youve managed to change the mode -
What I mean by that is the 10 seconds is a straight recording, even if you change patch it wont change - which takes more memory to do. Others have said they dont know if you can change it, but if you've got it at 80 seconds record, maybe that is the mode where when you change patch, the loop changes, which takes less memory (and as such longer record time possible)
@ no I didn’t change anything on mode I can change patches with out any issues so far that’s with the 150 pro mooer
But I have ordered sonicake pocket master should be here next week
Good review!
I' ve just purchase it. I also own a Matribox II and I'm very satisfied.
The pocket master for the price is very good pratice modeler, better than my Nux Mighty Plug (not pro) and near to my Positive Grid Spark Go (The software bundle app of the spark is in a different league but the Spark cost 2/3 times the Pocket Master).
Cons:
-I've found some sporadic cracking noises with high gain amps like when you fiddle with an oxidized volume pot.
Thank you, I'm really happy that you appreciate the review!
Thank you also for sharing your experience!
Oh great, someone with it - I've got a question about the looper, how long is the recording length?
I am super interested in getting this, basically as a "replacement" for my NUX mighty plug myself - just for the tuner and looper option.
@@damianhannon1581
I don't remember how long the looper is, I will check an let you know.
@@damianhannon1581 The looper is just 10 seconds.
Thank you for sharing!
Ottima recensione come sempre Leo, ma ha lo streaming bluetooth per suonare su una backin track ? Se non ha questa funzionalità mi sembrerebbe una grave lacuna
in your opinion sir? can this be use in live Gigs and still Sound Good?
Well, yes, it can, but I would rather go with a Matribox...for instance in order to have foot switches
Hi Leo, does the pocket master allows you to change tunings? I noticed a pitch option on the fx block, if so, how good is it? Thanks
i bought it, and yes it does have drop tuning :)
Grazie Leo! Per colpa tua lo comprerò. Scherzi a parte .
does it have looper?
Hi, yes it have a looper
what about the latency?
I have to do another dedicated video...
Thanks!
On their new firmware, it can convert and load NAM profile. I can't paste the link here, it keep being deleted by youtube.
Really???
I have to check it out....
Yes, YT typically delete the links to external web sites....
@@LeoGibsonGtr could you please check this new nam firmware on the pocket master? how is the quality?
Ciao Enrico,
grazie per aver condiviso la tua esperienza!
Is it better than nux mighty plug pro?
Hi, it depends from your needs.
Ergonomically they are pretty different...in terms of sound they are boot good enough....and it depends on how you use it...just for practicing? for recording? etc.
Thanks
does it have a headphone out?
Hi, it has just one out, that can be used for headphones
It now supports nam holy moly!
Yes...
Nice tamagotchi
😀
Its really good for 60 bucks.
Thank you for sharing!
Workflow aside, it sounds damn good!
Hi, yes...it is similar to the matribox units....
Why lately you never reveal the latency of any unit sir?
Hi, I typically do separated videos with the latency, for instance I have just release a video about the latency of the Sonulab Stompstation. I try not to overload you with latency videos...and you know...the measurements take work and time. Furthermore, I thought that for a device like this, practicing oriented, latency was not such an important measurements.
Thank you!
cant be beat for this price;!
Thank you for sharing!
ne venderanno a palate!
credo anche io...
@@LeoGibsonGtr guarda che aspettiamo la tua recensione del nuovo pedalino MXR Rockman X100: di questo ne venderanno pure pochissimi pezzi 🙂
Hahaha that is cute Leo!! You should compare it to the Boss Pocket GT!
😀...yes, that would be an interesting comparison...
For this price you can't expect nothing more...nevertheless I think that the internal (non repleaceable) battery is just planned obscolescence: once exhausted, you know, everything is going to go to the dustbin...
i think you can replace it with one from aliexpress and such
@joaquin8637 maybe, but you have to open the device (if possible), then you have to locate the battery, remove it (if possible) and then solder the new one that you have ordered (if it works), and close the encasement, hoping not to destroy everything in the process...who is going to do this for a 60 dollars device?
@@GreenHoleSun As long as you can open the device without destroying it, and if it is possible to order a battery with the same specs, battery replacement can be done either at home or by a smartphone service shop.
@@Andrey.Balandin I have just answered to a similar post, just read what I have written.
Ciao Leo-love your groovy demo! I ordered one immediately. Much appreciation from Texas!
I’ve been using the Boss Pocket GT, GX-100, or Hotone Ampero II Stomp for practice.
Ciao Mark!
Thank you for sharing your practicing tool and I'm happy that you appreciate the demo!
