I think part of the reason the tune is so upbeat while the lyrics are so sad is to represent the mask a lot of depressed people wear. Sometimes the happiest looking people are the ones hurting the most.
A lot of ppl say this song is a very sad song but from what I understood Sungjin,Wonpil, Youngks intentions were not mean't to be sad their lyrics plus music to sound like a defiant anthem of a restless person who is not gonna sugar coat their own perceived fucked up reality but is merely shouting out all their insecurities and hurt feelings in a rebellious way like as if they are saying a big 'fuck you' to the crap that is their life. Like I feel the inner monologue goes like "yes I know my life sucks I do wish it was better every day but I also accept that I know that only I can change this situation, no one else can make it better but me." This song reminds me of what most self-help books explain 1. No one can make you feel a certain way unless you give them permission to. 2. No matter what, you can always choose a better feeling thought. 3 What you give power to has power over you. 4. What you keep telling yourself daily will manifest in your life experiences. 5. Your feelings are always an indicator of your thinking. If you change your thinking - you change your life. Ultimately thats what I feel the person in this song has realised about their life. Edit: lyrics talks about a person with so much self deprecation but also who is also self aware that their happiness can only start with loving themsleves.. This person is accepting and embracing all the flaws in their lives and trying to move forward seeking that happiness which they know they can only get when they start to love themself.

When I listened to infinite's paradise which is a sad song everybody said it was upbeat and even danced to it but I didn't!? I felt sth in my heart and cried even without understanding the lyrics.
