  • Using Fusion360 to make an Archtop guitar Shape, work is done primarily in the sculpt environment. This is the way I make Complex shapes in the sculpt environment used to CNC parts for making musical instruments.

      Two Cherries Instruments aside from doing the model for me I should be alright. Follow along and I’ll do my own video and give you a shoutout.
      What screen capture method are you using??

      I use OBS , it's not that easy to set up but it works well.

    Excellent, thanks. I’m trying to make violin top by making a series of stacked, Offset Planes, with contours lines on each, and then lofting between them. I don’t know how it will turn out as I am new to Fusion. But your method might be a better way to do it? any disadvantage to using Loft of an arched top?

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  6 років тому +1

      Guy Booth the disadvantage of trying to do it with lofts is there is a lot more work involved, and it's never quite they way you want it to be. Try this way and see if it works for you...

      @@TwoCherriesIns Did you use this method for the violin you’re making now? It seems to me with this method, you’re pulling the contours around until you are happy with them, rather than pinning them to an exact, pre-defined contour pattern? Maybe with an arched top guitar, there is considerable scope for variation in arching parameters, but with the violin, I’m trying to draw the arch to fairly strict dimensions...so I'm curious if you arched your violin plates with the same method? thanks again!

      @@guybooth20 arch top instruments both violins and guitars are not parametric shapes. You will never be able to define them that way as they were originally carved by hand to a shape the was pleasing to the eye. This kind continuity is only possible in the sculpt environment, you probably notice that when you enter suclp you are outside the parametric timeline until you finish form.

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  5 років тому

      Since every peice of wood is different carving to an exact shape will not reproduce an exact tone, this must be refined by hand and enough wood left in the form to accommodate it.

    super great info. I saw that post on facebook too, to me the most impressive thing was the neck and the headstock transition. Any chance to see your process on that matter? thanks!

      I have a few videos on this technique, I think some of them cover it in more detail. The problem is that this process takes a lot of time, these videos get very long and they don't get many views.

      I think I know what you are talking about. If it is how I pull the edges around the arched surface, it's as easy as selecting modify, then the edges you want to add to and holding the Alt key, and moving the edge.

    Hey man, how did you manage to get that contour line at the beginning? I have an svg with all the lines but i can't find how to rotate my arching profile 90 degrees from the body plane..

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  4 роки тому +1

      You would import the SVG to the plain you need it on, in fusion360 everything is done on a plane. It's a simple contour so I just draw is using the spline tool and line it up with the attached canvas.

    Could you please explain why triangles should be avoided?

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  4 роки тому +1

      They are usually when the G2 continuity is pinched closer to G1, in other words it a notably sharp point, your surface will be much smoother without them or as few as possible.

      You should take the time to learn fusion, checkout the tutorials on nyccnc and lars Christensen. Fusion has the tendency to jam up when you don't do things in the correct order.
