Something I really love about the Kingdom Hearts is it's characterization of Beast and how it differs from the film. In the original Movie, Beauty and The Beast, the Beast was a man in need a redemption after his anger and selfishness turned him into a literal monster. Eventually thanks to his interactions with Belle Beast learns to let go of his anger and selfishness in order to care for others, eventually breaking the curse. However in Kingdom Hearts can't use this same characterization and arc for Beast since in KH1 they already established that he was a better person who had not only gone through most of his development BUT had earned Belle affection. So rather than reset his character arc for the sake of His world Visit in KH2 they choose instead to focus in on another one of Beast's character flaws, his self loathing. Beast is a man who deeply hates himself, unable to see the good in himself despite all his progress, only seeing himself for the surface level image of a monster. Because Beast hates himself he ends up falling victim to Xaldin's manipulation, who bringing to words all the nasty things Beast thinks of himself, ironically making him more of a monster than he really is. Worst of all though it is exactly The Beast's self loathing that keeps him trapped in his curse, for one who cannot love themselves cannot accept love in return. Ultimately Beast's arc in the Kingdom Hearts series is not about him learning to become a more compassionate and loving person but rather to learn to love himself so that he can finally accept Belle's love. And the Boss at the end of this world reflects this with the Shadow Stalker being a literal animalistic monster that reflects how Beats sees himself, and that by defeating this Heartless the Beast proves to himself that he is not some abomination but a hero.
^^ THIS !!! I love going back to KH2 specifically for this development and how it directly parallels another character's arc through the series. Choosing to focus on this aspect of self-reflection and redemption really lends itself to exploring more of the original movie, this world, hollow bastion in kh1, and the overall underlying kh2 narrative all in one go. It's just so good
Lance Tug and Bat Cry are perfect examples of _why_ I love Reaction Commands so much. The idea of Sora hijacking an enemy attack and using it against them, or beating up other Heartless with it, is just so cool, and the implication is that he's making these tactics up on the fly, in the thick of it, as he's fighting! He's skilled! He's smart! He's creative! He's sick with it! And do I even need to explain why using Step Vault to grab and swing the ballroom chandelier around is cool??
Beast's Castle is one of my favorite worlds in Kingdom Hearts 2 thanks to it's strong characterization for The Beast, expansion on the supporting cast, cool as hell Heartless designs, interesting environments, and fantastic boss fights. However its strongest aspect is its use of the Organization XIII member, Xaldin. In Beast's Castle Xaldin is the main antagonist using Beast's own self loathing to torment and isolate him from his loved ones, ultimately feeding his most self destructive impulses. All of this is done in the pursuit of turning beats into a heartless for the Org's benefit. This is such a strong idea for Disney world in KH2 as it quickly establishes the threat Organization 13 posses to the other worlds. Not only can just one of them take over a world with minimum effort but they are even capable of manipulating and tormenting Sora's allies. After all Beasts was one of Sora's most powerful party members in KH1, saving him in what was Sora's darkest moment, and now here is is reduced to a pawn of Xaldin. It so effectively establishes the stakes of KH2 by showing how much they can damage a world as well as giving Sora a more personal drive to stop Organization XIII by directly showing how they can harm his friend. And that is not even the best part of Xaldin's role. You See Xaldin's actions in Beast's Castle draw a clear parallel to the actions of Ansem Seeker of Darkness in Kingdom Hearts 1. Both characters through manipulation of the Disney characters and Heartless spread chaos within the other worlds for no reason other than to further their own ambitions. By establishing these parallels between Xaldin and Ansem it shows the player that Organization XIII is intestinally a group made up of multiple Ansem level threats, and just how much the stakes have increased between games.
Fun Fact! Dark Thorn’s design is based on the Final Fantsy X version on Ifrit, and I believe they used the used the same movement animations as well. I've been forever obsessed with FFX so it was so cool seeing Dark Thorn for the first time and everytime after that 👀
Maybe Goofy is operating at a different level where he can see that actually Mulan identifies more as a girl and is just pretending to be a guy for now
as a kid i played on beginner mode, and got through the game with relative ease. my mind was BLOWN when i saw videos online of the mickey save mechanic, and instantly wanted to play it again on higher difficulty for the chance of seeing the mouse. god i love this game
I love watching these. I never really was interested in Kingdom Hearts, but now I've watched all the cutscenes from KH1 and Chain of Memories to get caught up lore-wise for this series. I'm so obsessed with the Roxas storyline, it hits so hard and its fuckin wonderful
Shit this is what I get for commenting before watching the video I should've said "None of this is good Ping, that's why it's called war" Mulan was way more worried about the war parts than Sora
Fun fact, that audio bug uses to be worse believe it or not. Instead of muting the audio slightly it used to amplify it for whatever reason. The version we have now is the slightly fixed one
Goofy out here clockin' like a town square.

Really good analysis.
Having that preview before "a little bit of Goofy" is genius😂.
goofy really got saved only because he was happening to be literally talking to mulan at that moment
Goofy saying that is truly an "Oh thats not-" moment

Goofy is indicative of the sad state of public education in the Mickey Mouse Kingdom.
in my entire playthrough I don't think I ever got mickey's help. Getting it twice in a row must just be the Snapcube difference
He's much more common in a Critical Mode playthrough :)

Goofy has Max taught you nothing...
Max is too busy with FFXIII stuff. No joke, Max’s VA plays Noel.

None of this is good, Ping. That's why it's called "war."
Shit this is what I get for commenting before watching the video I should've said "None of this is good Ping, that's why it's called war" Mulan was way more worried about the war parts than Sora
Goofy's audacity????
Fun fact, that audio bug uses to be worse believe it or not. Instead of muting the audio slightly it used to amplify it for whatever reason. The version we have now is the slightly fixed one
