For all Alien Force changed about Vilgax, I do like that his plan with the Omnitrix in The Final Battle is actually completely faithful to this episode.
Will give Alien Force that. As much as they get a bit wrong with Vilgax, seeing that part of his plan come to life while being faithful to the OG series was great to see.
@@jacobfoxfires9647 True. Like, I like Alien Force. Well, S1-2. Season 3 is when it started to go downhill, especially Vilgax. But the final episode at least is true to the OS, that I can agree with you on.
Don't worry, there wasn't anyone in the building, it was filled with explosives which is why it randomly blew up when Vilgax pile drove(pile drivered?) StinkFly into it
@gabrieldevoogel6225 for real ben 10 and justice league unlimited always comes to mind when I think of random people dying off screen because both have so much destruction
I love that Grandpa Max starts out as the type of character to whack a bad guy with a frying pan to knock them out, but he goes full murderhobo to absolutely slaughter Vilgax. It really does sell how dangerous Vilgax is
The original Vilgax was a classic. A force to be reckoned with that Ben couldn't beat, couldn't outsmart, couldn't escape. Blum's VA work was fantastic, and that villain monologue is honestly fantastic, even if it is the typical bad guy evil plan speech. Vilgax was this kind of cosmic horror-lite, representing a part of the world Ben didn't understand and couldn't beat on his own. (Also, the talking to ben in his sleep bit was kind of a Cthulhu thing to do. Also, anyone who's played D&D may recognize his alliance with Rojo to be a great old one warlock pact, complete with eldritch blast, a detail that makes this funnier is that Vilgax ends up on the other end of a similar relationship with Dagon later in the series.) Edit: that's not even getting into the fantastic character design, making unclear as to whether or not his arms are made of muscle or tentacles wrapped into an arm shape... or how the technology of his drones and ship are fantastic, being this techno-organic look that feels original and isn't derivative of HR Geiger.
The original Vilgax can't be topped. All major roles that Steve Blum performed in the classic series were just phenomenal. Heatblast, Ghostfreak/Zs'Skayr, and Vilgax. All just wonderfully done.
A very silly point: I love the way you title these videos. Instead of like “Series review Pt. 3” it’s just a genuinely interesting question or sentence
It's probably helpful for the algorithm as well, since people tend to be less willing to click on a part 2 if they haven't seen part 1, but names like these imply that you don't have to see the previous parts
The issue with the watch just sliding off had such an easy fic that it's honestly amazing that none of the writers thought of it. We see in Secrets of The Omnitrix that Azmith disables the self destruct by removing the dial but the actual band stays attached to Ben's wrist. When they go to Primus the dial could have just detached itself and flew off and then Azmith could have just had a spare band that he kept around just in case of emergencies and Vilgax could have stolen one of those spare bands and then just needed the dial itself, meaning that when Ben gave up the Omnitrix he only had to remove the dial and then he could have removed the dial from the ultimatrix and inserted it into the omnitrix and the omnitrix could then have changed to look like the ultimatrix, like how it changed when Ben first put it back on. It's an easy fix.
Yeah that could of been neat. Show case that the Omnitrix is the thing attached to Ben’s being. And the actual core of it is what changes the Omnitrix and have it be morphed and updated. Did find it a bit of a buzzkill that Ben can just slip it off with a passcode. I get that it kinda makes sense but still.
@@Waqas_Khan02 Albedo had already made the band for the Ultimatrix. We see it on his wrist when he inserts the core into it. The only thing that changed was the color of the dial xD
Kuro: now thats a wholesome image Vigax: and I took that personally. Vilgax seemed like this ultimate juggernaut of genetic and Machine augmentation in the first series, I really liked hid Future counterpart the most where he’d been edited to counter every single one of bens aliens! He looked and acted the coolest in the first series while having the neatest power set, Dagon augmented vilgax and malgax are pretty cool looks and amps but I don’t much care for Omniverse or alien force vilgax in retrospect.
I liked Vilgax in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, but he was decidedly weaker than in the original. The Original Vilgax was brute force and cunning intelligence that got undercut by his ego. Alien Force and Ultimate Alien Vilgax is pretty much the same one. I like that we got to see who he is to his people, that we get to see him at war with the galaxy. He's less of a mustache twirler and more of a personality. And while his new gadgets make him more interesting in combat, he lacks that same weight in his punches. He seemed genuinely unstoppable until Ben pulled up with Way Big. Ben thinks back on *that* Vilgax when he breaks the Omnitrix to try and get that form back
The og Ben 10,000 timeline vilgax is the coolest one for me, basically just the oc one but even more advanced! I use to like alien force more but then i realized they took too much ‘inspiration’ from darkseid and doomsday from the DCAU. His power set is weird and he cares his relation with space politics is weird. Although i still like the episode where he teams up with ben to stop ghost freak from invading his world. Shows theres a soft spot to him. I like how ultimate alien starts with vilgax stuck in his weakened true form and trapped in a glorified aquarium, its kinda a call back to when he was injured and stuck in a tube in the first series. Shows his scheming at his best.
I like how fast the transformation to XLR8 is when Vilgax tries to grab him. Some of those transformations lasted several frames but just like his transformation sequence XLR8s transformation is instantaneous. Very fitting for the fastest alien.
Og Vilgax was the best his design was just so dope and his voice was hype when he pulls up just his very steps destroy the ground. Alien Force Vilgax kinda tried to copy Darkseid they even gave him a dessad rip off that only became a villain in Omniverse.
I feel like I could do a whole essay on what makes Vilgax such an amazing villain. He's clearly heavily inspired by Cthulu, both in his appearance and the fact that Ben first meets him in visions and dreams. Seeing him here in his first battle with Ben, he inspires fear and defies understanding much like his Lovecraftian counterpart, albeit for different reasons. He arrives in a vehicle clearly alien in design and completely blatant in announcing his intent to destroy. The moment he steps out, his shear stature alone betrays his overwhelming confidence and power. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this first battle is that he doesn't actually use any gadgets for the majority of it, outside of the drones and his own mechanically augmented body. Ben prides himself on his wide skill set across all of his alien forms. Even so, Vilgax fights with brute strength, while Ben is unable to land a meaningful hit, as if Vilgax is boring a hole straight through all the experience he's managed to accumulate over the last season. It's all he can do to slow Vilgax down and get away. There's a certain sport to his movements, like a gladiator who's won countless battles. He doesn't necessarily take joy in combat, but he nevertheless seems to come alive as he breaks Ben down. He's a warlord through and through, single-minded in his ambition and ruthless in his means. In his mind, he's going to get the Omnitrix, and anything or anyone he breaks in the process is just dust in the wind. The moment he deactivates the Omnitrix with just a touch, it creates a huge rip in what we thought we knew about the watch up to this point. It's perhaps the first time when Ben has felt completely at the mercy of a villain. With everyone else, he just had to think on his feet until he could go hero or get bailed out by Max and Gwen. With Vilgax, though, he finds himself face-to-face with someone who truly knows what they're doing. On his ship, he finds himself restrained and vulnerable to a variety of alien tools and weapons meant to pry the Omnitrix off without any regard to his wellbeing, as well as an apocalyptic vision of Vilgax's Omnitrix army. Overall, his mere presence in the original series announces an extraordinary challenge for our heroes before it even begins, and like with many great villains, those battles are often less about actually beating Vilgax and more about keeping him back and surviving long enough to figure out how. Honestly, he's hands-down one of the best villains in animated media I've ever seen, and especially from Cartoon Network.
As a kid, Whenever Vilgax used to turn up,I literally used to pray and hope that Ben will quickly turn into Four Arms and defeat him. He was so terrifying!
The OG Vilgax intimidation factor could also be because Ben is at his most inexperienced. He only has access to 10 aliens, Doesn't have a ton of experience with those 10, hasn't been off planet yet so he's still unaware of the galaxy, no Plumbers experience, no alternate versions of himself, no real fighting skills as a human, still relatively new to being a superhero, and he's still a kid who is scared of aliens.
Original Vilgax: Has an absolutely amazing fight with Ben that lasts almost the whole Episode... Dagon Powered Vilgax: Gets defeated by Ben less than 40 seconds into their fight...
@@legendlalo True, but at the same time Vilgax literally has the power of the Dagon, one of the most powerful beings in all of existence, you can't tell me you wouldn't want to see them fighting in space having an Ultimate Battle.
Vilgax is definitely the most intimidating in this Show, especially how he can defeat most of Ben’s aliens like Diamondhead instantaneously. Something Ben corrected later on when he mastered Diamondheads powers and defeated a supposedly more powerful Vilgax who had taken the power of warriors he challenged across the galaxy. All things considered I would say he is the best here. But I won’t deny the reboot didn’t take an interesting direction with Vilgax, it didn’t just make him a by the book villain, but rather a mentor improving his opponent’s capabilities, at least from what I remember, I haven’t seen the reboot in a while.
Also like the new abilities he gotten that we see with Ben’s transformation with Gax. Makes sense in my mind that he’s a mass of strong muscular tentacles that he can form into strong limbs.
Make the poll a “season wrap-up”, where we decide how we rank the first season of ben 10, from 1-5. You could do this for all the seasons, and see which season is considered the best season of each series.
One of the animation errors that drove me mad was when the heatblast kid (Alan Albright) in ‘Everybody Talks About the Weather’ had his badge taken off him by the police but it kept appearing during a chase scene.
When Ben is thrown in the pod, he was meant be scruffy and dirty, it was redone because it was too violent Edit: this episode was also meant be a LOT darker and meant to be longer than usual if I remember right
You know, the scene you talk about at 19 minutes kinda also displays a lot about his character. In many modern shows with a villian whenever the hero gives up and agrees to the bad guys deal, the bad guy normally just breaks the deal, kills the family then attacks the hero. Ive seen a lot of that lately. But in ben 10 Vilgax actually keeps his word and spares Bens family, and would of most likely not gone after them again (at least directly) as long as they don't go after him. Showing that Vilgax despite being evil, does have some form of warrior honor.
Adding onto that, it’s a great compliment to him being a worthy rival to Max Tennyson. He has technological prowess, great leadership and later on even fantastic quick thinking teamwork in a situation where he has to make a lot of compromises he knows he doesn’t like. Vilgax isn’t a brute. He only fights only when he needs to (evidenced by him initially sending henchman and bits through the whole 1st season). Lastly, zoning in on the 2nd season finale, his code of honour makes him a much stronger contrast to the boiling blooded child that Kevin 11 was, making their dynamic much more interesting.
And it contrasts with the opening, where Ben is indisputably at the top of his game. The way he’s silent comes off like this is becoming the norm, making Vilgax a big wake up call.
Yes, Vilgax after the OS was turned somewhat into a bumbling buffoon. The OS made it seem like Vilgax conquered a few galaxies or at least much of the Milky Way and was gearing up to conquer the rest of the universe hence why he wanted the Omnitrix. After the OS, they not only took away his knowledge of how the Omnitrix works but it is revealed that he only ever conquered 10 planets in his entire career as an intergalactic warlord. (Its important to note Vilgax according to Omniverse has been active since at least the 18th century AD.) It made me wonder why he was so feared that the mention of his name got everyone shook.
7:29 This scene right here, is testament to how awesome Steve Blum can get with his characters. Voicing both Heatblast and Vilgax in this scene, he succeeds in capturing Ben's shock and fear of Vilgax as well as making Vilgax sound as equally intimidating.
They destroyed him in alien force and ultimate alien... Vilgax was ruthless in the original and the dude never needed Ben's help with the omnitrix, the fact that waybig was the only alien who was able beat him in the original itself shows who he is
I thought Ben was excited for stink fly because as far as Ben knew vilgax had no way to reach or attack stinkfly who was his only flying alien with projectiles
Something I always enjoyed about Ben 10 battles, which I know we all love, is how brutal they let punches be. I feel the pain when Vilgax threw XLR8 against the rock. Or when Ben is fighting Kevin 4 Arms for the first time, and their strength is very well translated to the camera and audio.
Vilgax was so freaking threatening! Even when Ben was switching from alien to alien, he could barely hold his own. Btw, I loved the way Ben swapped aliens in this episode. It really felt like he was morphing and abuse changing. It may be a pipe dream, but I dream of a version of master control where Ben doesn't just have a green flash, instead physics changing on screen.
THE WRITER FOR SECRETS IS THE SAME AS THE ONE WHO WROTE FOR THE ULTIMATE ENEMY?? I... I just... That explains so much! Wow. Love really _is_ in the details, I'm so glad I know that. Seriously though, I enjoy these reviews for both just Kuro's presence and style, but also, these type of informative tidbits are just great to have.
An animation error that I noticed in this episode: at 6:27 when rustbucket stops and heatblast opens it's door the door doesn't open and opens at the same time. Btw great vid as always, keep it up The Tank 😊.
I don't really like the Alien Force version of Vilgax. The episode, "Primus" just kinda ruins him. For those who don't know, he doesn't know how to use the Omnitrix in that episode. As shown here, he effortlessly switches Ben back to his human form. Or he claims that unlocking the master control is child's play in "Back with a vengeance". But in Alien Force he doesn't know how to turn into aliens. And the different omnitrix is not a fair argument because in the same season in the episode in which Ben gets his hand cut off, some random kids find his severed hand and instantly figure out how to use the Omnitrix.
And Vilgax also was no threat during this season First he got easily Deafeated by Diamondhead Then he got easily Deafeated by Way Big Then he got easily Deafeated by fucking jet Ray
I also agree with this due to one key thing he said in first season, he claimed he was a master of the omnitrix meaning he should know how to operate any kind of omnitrix, this is something I guess they expected us to forget
@@mouseinhouse4326 I think the reasoning behind it was that vilgax only knew how to operate the prototype version of the omnitrix and had no idea what to do with the recalibrated version
17:47 - 17:50 I always felt like this just showed how Vilgax punched SO hard that by the time Ben was even beginning to cover his face his hand would've gouged him if it weren't for the Omnitrix's instantaneous transformation.
Well if Ben had just used Ultimate Echo Echo it would have worked. And we had to forget that Ben can switch between Aliens for him to feel like a threat
@@sheikhalneri9883 I don’t think so. Remember Kevin only absorbed 10% of the Andromeda 5’s power while Greg was able to get all of their powers by converting them into energy. As such Greg is more durable
My favourite part of the classic series has to be how painful the transformations look. It's not slipping a suit on or gently morphing. It's a full on mutation into another creature. Love it
So glad to see you finally cover this episode! I've always felt that Vilgax's execution on the whole was immensely underrated. The level of authority he commands from this point in the series, as well as his perfect voice, perfect name, and truly perfect design makes him stand as Ben 10's official Darkside or Thanos.
I love this version of Vilgax, but I have to say the reboot Vilgax is my favorite. He’s was a recurring threat for a season, made an epic return, and his introduction was marvelous.
I've always taken it that Ben altered to the controls of functions somehow before Vilgax got it. Kinda as a last F-You to buy them some more time. You can't tell me that'd be out of character for Ben to do.
@Hooty HOOT HOOT except there are buttons. The two grey rectangles. And the dial and everything else are still the same function-wise. Vilgax literally just tells the Omnitrix to work and expects it to do something.
this episode was perfection altough in the framed episode witch he hasnt rewived but will ı wish kevin only had the parts of the aliens like the episode he was interduced rather than having a bootleg master control
Just noticed this on a rewatch of the breakdowns but at 06:28 the rust bucket door gets opened twice, once just by itself and then again immediately after by Heatblast
Idk, Vilgax' characterization kinda goes downwards the further you go in the series, the first Vilgax was the most menacing and had the cooles design imo
This was absolutely the best version of Vilgax. He was an imposing presence that spoke with ruthless determination, you KNEW he was a big deal and this episode shows that he is every bit as formidable as he seemed. He isn't just strong either, he is strategic, he tracks Ben and lures him out, then overpowers him in battle and finally threatens his family to make him surrender. Vilgax represents the combined threat of a true equal in terms of physical power and the knowledge and experience that Ben does not have. He can tank almost anything thrown at him and dish it out with brutal force. That and he knows the Omnitrix inside and out means he is actually at a decisive advantage over Ben, he loses because he is overconfident and Ben and Max are resourceful enough to squeak out a win. Later versions water down Vilgax and it sucks, the warlord Vilgax in Alien Force isn't horrible, but it contrasts with this monster in the original series and he just lacks the villainous presence needed of an arch-villain. Instead it was the Highbreed that replaced Vilgax as the greatest threat in the universe and while they were certainly monstrous villains, their motivation was idiotic, obsessed with racial purity and dying out because of inbreeding... really...?
First season was so much fun to watch and there are so many things that deserved to be appreciated I am glad Kuro started this series so that's how we can appreciate the efforts of creators of Ben 10
Oh my gosh I absolutely love this series. Breaking down all the small nuances and details One one of my favorite shows of all time. And why I love it, I feel like you should at least for this year only focus on the classic series. As I saw from your process video on five years later, it takes a lot to make it. And I would rather you focus your time on that so the process isn’t grueling or exhausting like the last chapter rather than have you reviewing all the episodes. This this is actually really fun! Have a good day!
I started watching Ben 10 as a kid from about mid season 3 of AF onward. So I had no exposure to the classic series outside of SOTO and a rerun of Ken 10. So I was surprised to go back and watch the Original Series and see how genuinly scary Vilgax was. He is like a freight train on legs.
i always liked the idea that vilgax was always straight capping when he would talk about how he is a "master of the omnitrix" like someone on the internet who thinks they know everything because they seen a video or tweet about something
One thing I think people overlook in this episode is Ben's ability to think of ways to fight Vilgax on the fly, whilst the omnitrix is giving him random aliens and almost zero time to strategize. Ben's tactical skills and ability to come up with an attack plan on the spot, are some of his underrated skills.
Watching this Episode with my family and friends on a Saturday Morning Eating Breakfast before Playing Tag outside. Best Memories. So in Depth with this Episode now it only makes it more Special.
Loved this episode. The form swapping animations were something I never really appreciated, but now? That’s a beautiful episode. My ONE very small gripe is that I wish Fourarms fought Vilgax. It always stuck out in my head that Ben never got to use his strongest form on him outside of that one dream episode, and it would’ve been so dope to see Vilgax overpower him. (He might have been the only alien besides Wildmutt he didn’t actually fight? Which makes me think that Fourarms was planned to be Ben’s lifeline against Vilgax). But that’s a very minor thing. I love this episode, and I’m super appreciative that you felt like doing this review series!
I suspect Four Arms wasn't used because of the possible reasons: a) his voice actor may not have been available for that episode. Richard McGonagle's name wasn't listed in the credits for Four Arms for the episode. Or b) it was probably a production or story choice that Ben shouldn't use Four Arms that much to give Vilgax the spotlight. Even if Ben used Four Arms I think Vilgax would have still defeated him. Or there could be any other reason that I can't think of at the moment. Just thought of some reasons I thought made sense
@@zohebrafi B is kinda my point honestly; I think it would’ve been great to see Vilgax and Four Arms fight to really confirm whether Ben even stands a chance alone; but as it is now there’s not really a clear answer. As for the voice actor, it seems like they were fine with all the other aliens? They could have just kept him silent during his scuffle? (though I think I remember hearing him in this one anyway) I like to think Four Arms would be able to match Vilgax in strength somewhat, but the latter’s hundreds of years of experience let him utterly dominate their battles.
This is what I hate about the creators. Kids nowadays have seen way worse shit. I don't get their thinking process that scary monsters won't make us enjoy the show

I love that Grandpa Max starts out as the type of character to whack a bad guy with a frying pan to knock them out, but he goes full murderhobo to absolutely slaughter Vilgax. It really does sell how dangerous Vilgax is
What's funny about that phrasing is that in The Final Battle from Alien Force, Max still hits Albedo with an actual frying pan
@@unitds27-deltaGoes to show Albedo can't match Vilgax
The original Vilgax was a classic. A force to be reckoned with that Ben couldn't beat, couldn't outsmart, couldn't escape. Blum's VA work was fantastic, and that villain monologue is honestly fantastic, even if it is the typical bad guy evil plan speech. Vilgax was this kind of cosmic horror-lite, representing a part of the world Ben didn't understand and couldn't beat on his own.
(Also, the talking to ben in his sleep bit was kind of a Cthulhu thing to do. Also, anyone who's played D&D may recognize his alliance with Rojo to be a great old one warlock pact, complete with eldritch blast, a detail that makes this funnier is that Vilgax ends up on the other end of a similar relationship with Dagon later in the series.)
Edit: that's not even getting into the fantastic character design, making unclear as to whether or not his arms are made of muscle or tentacles wrapped into an arm shape... or how the technology of his drones and ship are fantastic, being this techno-organic look that feels original and isn't derivative of HR Geiger.

Your comment really make sense may be thats how Albedo created the Ultimatrix he just simply put the core and boom the band changes to ultimatrix.

OG and alien force
I like how fast the transformation to XLR8 is when Vilgax tries to grab him. Some of those transformations lasted several frames but just like his transformation sequence XLR8s transformation is instantaneous. Very fitting for the fastest alien.
Og Vilgax was the best his design was just so dope and his voice was hype when he pulls up just his very steps destroy the ground. Alien Force Vilgax kinda tried to copy Darkseid they even gave him a dessad rip off that only became a villain in Omniverse.

Vilgax hates cats, that's canon.
My feelings exactly

Wonderfully said!

If you pay close attention, you can see the rust bucket having two doors when it opens.
This episode it felt like Ben was genuinely in over his head. It was so awesome seeing vilgax basically take out Ben's aliens one by one
Yeah I have no idea why Omniverse would put him at 18 century.
I loved ben ten as a kid but Kuro and the Ink Tank made me truly appreciate the series at a marvel multiversal level, almost ten years later.
7:29 This scene right here, is testament to how awesome Steve Blum can get with his characters. Voicing both Heatblast and Vilgax in this scene, he succeeds in capturing Ben's shock and fear of Vilgax as well as making Vilgax sound as equally intimidating.
Resect for Steve Blum
They destroyed him in alien force and ultimate alien... Vilgax was ruthless in the original and the dude never needed Ben's help with the omnitrix, the fact that waybig was the only alien who was able beat him in the original itself shows who he is
I actually remember having a nightmare as a kid where I was Ben and in that situation where Ben is strapped to that machine that removed the omnitrix
Vilgax “you’re not my real Dad” might be the funniest thing Kuro has ever said

@@RidleyKraid187 But it wasn't a screen door or anything like that, it was the exact same as the main door.
I thought Ben was excited for stink fly because as far as Ben knew vilgax had no way to reach or attack stinkfly who was his only flying alien with projectiles
This is the best version of Vilgax
Totally agree
And Vilgax also was no threat during this season
First he got easily Deafeated by Diamondhead
Then he got easily Deafeated by Way Big
Then he got easily Deafeated by fucking jet Ray
I also agree with this due to one key thing he said in first season, he claimed he was a master of the omnitrix meaning he should know how to operate any kind of omnitrix, this is something I guess they expected us to forget

Instead it was the Highbreed that replaced Vilgax as the greatest threat in the universe and while they were certainly monstrous villains, their motivation was idiotic, obsessed with racial purity and dying out because of inbreeding... really...?
The official omnitrix made sense as to why Ben could take it off so easily

(though I think I remember hearing him in this one anyway)
I like to think Four Arms would be able to match Vilgax in strength somewhat, but the latter’s hundreds of years of experience let him utterly dominate their battles.
Vilgax is so terrifying in this episode later series really let the character down.
Well they don't want the kids getting spooked by the big scary monster guy.
