I just *love* how Osgood is completely unfazed by Jerry/Daphne's final revelation.
    That guy's a keeper!!! 😉

One of my most cherished scene in movie history. This was a risky ending to the movie for it time too.

This scene would have trouble being released today, not because of the left, but because of the right, screaming and ranting about the guy being okay with his lover potentially being trans or the guy potentially being bi

    OSGOOD
I called Mama - she was so happy she
cried - she wants you to have her
wedding gown - it's white lace.
    JERRY
    (steeling himself)
    - I can't get married in your
mother's dress. She and I - we' not
    built the same way.
    OSGOOD
    We can have it altered.
    JERRY
    (firmly)
Oh, no you don't! Look, Osgood - I'm
going to level with you. We can't get
    married at all.
    OSGOOD
    Why not?
    JERRY
Well, to begin with, I'm not
    a natural blonde.
    OSGOOD
    (tolerantly)
    It doesn't matter.
    JERRY
And I smoke. I smoke all the time.
    OSGOOD
    I don't care.
    JERRY
And I have a terrible past. For three
years now, I've been living with a
    saxophone player.
    OSGOOD
    I forgive you.
    JERRY
    (with growing desperation)
    I can never have children.
    OSGOOD
    We can adopt some.
    JERRY
    But you don't understand!
    (he rips off his wig;
    in a male voice)
    I'm a MAN!
    OSGOOD
    (oblivious)
    Well - nobody's perfect.

0:32 I’m a terrible pass? What does that mean? Why is living with a saxophone player bad? Is that an allusion to black guys?

    • @tsumusicguy09
      @tsumusicguy09 3 роки тому +39

I think it’s I have a terrible past. And I think it has less to do with race and just a joke on saxophone players and the jazz lifestyle. Jazzers were definitely known for their more taboo club/nightlife scene.
I’m a saxophone player myself and couldn’t help but laugh when he said that. 😂

    • @clinton8421
      @clinton8421 Рік тому +8

@@tsumusicguy09 It's a recurring joke throughout the movie too, brought about by Sugar's (Marilyn Monroe) trend of falling for saxophone players and it not going well.

as a saxophone player, I can confirm it is bad

Jazz players in this point of history had a reputation similar to what people in the 80’s thought of for metal musicians. Jazz was seen as low-brow, crass, vulgar, and basically evil music.
