Electric guitar really does something for this dang song!! Also it's amazing that Peter Hughes is perpetually like, 30 years old.
This is criminally underrated.
Goddamn this song is sooooo good. I don't care what anyone says, they still got it.
Wurster is a fucking champion here. They all are tbh.
look at these cool dads
I have been waiting for this show to be put online! I was in Seattle for a week, and as we were in the car headed out of town, I hear on KEXP that there are still tickets available to see this, and I was so bummed that I didn't have time to go!
I listen to this song to hear Peter Hughes
Same! I love Peter's singing. Kinda wish the other band members would take over the lead vocals more often. Don't get me wrong, I love John's singing, but it does sound really new and exciting!
John makes amazing music.
why the dislikes? this version's awesome!
Taste?
If I had to guess I'd say it's the vocals, probably not polished and boring enough for 'generation auto-tune' ; )
Anyways, it's very rude to give a dislike to music!
Never heard of this band, quite original, I like it, thanks KEXP!
exactly, for something so trivial as a song you don't like, to go the extra step of hitting dislike seems very strange to me.
I'm 'generation auto-tune' and i love tmg
could someone explain what this song is about please
The song is about a working goth musician who has reached a plateau in his career. His record label has presented him with a few options for how to move forward (partnering him up with another songwriter, putting him on tour with Trent Reznor as the bottom billed band on a three band show), but he doesn't find any of these options palatable. Faced with the choice between compromising his art and giving up his dream of being a professional musician, he decides to quit. In the last verse (sung by Peter Hughes, who co-wrote the song), the song's narrator imagines his future after he gives up music and starts a new life.
Edit: Should also add that when a band makes an album but their record label decides not to release it, this album has been "shelved."
MyBoatsTheyGo Thank you so much! long live the goats!!
Wurster has insanely satisfying feel and is invariably tasteful even though he has absurd chops.
