Watching this scene I just realized that Harry IS, the master of death! He, possesses all three hallows, decides to die, isn't tempted to keep the wand or the resurrection stone. Harry is a the ultimate BOSS!
Dumbledore wanted the hallows but realized he wasn't the rightful owner, and he made sure that Harry would ultimately control them. -He kept the Cloak after Lily and James' deaths, and gave it to Harry during his first year at Hogwarts. -He discovered Gaunt's Ring (which was in fact the Stone) and decided that Harry would inherit it after his death -and of course, he was the owner of the Elder Wand. One of the single greatest scenes in the entire eight-film series occurs when Harry steps into Ollivander’s wand shop to buy his first wand. Fans of the book knew just how important this scene was, as Harry’s wand was the tool that would ultimately allow him to practice magic at Hogwarts, but they weren’t necessarily prepared for John Hurt’s master class in the role of Ollivander. In a single scene, he manages to encapsulate his character’s wisdom, sense of humor, and dark foreboding when he realizes that the perfect wand for Harry happens to be the brother of Voldemort’s. His monologue to Harry is now the stuff of legend, and when the actor passed away in 2017 at the age of 77, it became etched into the hearts of fans as the one he would be remembered by. Like Alan Rickman and Roger Lloyd Pack, Hurt passed away from pancreatic cancer.

This scene is a great callback to the first movie. When Harry first met Mr. Ollivander, he was scared and awkward around the wizarding world, including wands, and Ollivander kind of creeped him out. John Hurt is brilliant. He brings that character to life. Just the way he handles the wands; you’d 100% believe that the man had devoted his entire life to wand lore.
like they handed him the murder weapon XD but i think he was more scared because they asked if it's safe to use and that wand is Unyielding, meaning there is no way in hell that Wand will assist you in opposing anything it's master believed in or it's master itself, it's loyalty is absolute to bellatrix so it likely will resist if they try using it on Death Eaters, Voldemort or her.
Interesting how Bellatrix's wand is unyielding considering it has a dragon heart string, which according to the lore, is a core that usually chooses the stronger wizard...but Bellatrix, somehow has so much influence over her wand that it doesn't want anybody else to use it.
@@tylergregory200 The characteristics and materials that a wand is made of determines its behavior and its power level. One of these characteristics is how flexible it is. The less flexible it is, the more powerful it is. “Unyielding” means that it’s an insanely powerful dark wand.

This is how I always think of him. I never realized he was Ollivander, but the trailers for that particular special pounded it into everyone's head that the War Doctor was John Hurt, and that's how I've always associated him, even after I realized he also started as the fabled Wand-Maker.
want to say, John Hurt is an awesome actor! SOOOO DIFFERENT from, "The Doctor" this character is so.... powerful in his presentation. He always plays his character so..... powerfully real!
The fact to know that at beginning everyone thought now when Voldemort got the elder wand Harry has no chance, it's really adventurous and exciting to hear the words of Olivander when he warned Harry. Personally I always get goosebombs then
I remember in the deathly hallows part 1 Dobby says to Ron: “Master Weasley, so good to see you again”, which doesn’t make sense since they have never seen each other in the movies.
"if you won it from him" harry literally just grabbed the wand out of draco's hands. so much for _expelliarmus_, he just disarmed the poor boy the muggle way.
I assume when Malfoy gained ownership of the elder wand unknowingly, his old wand knew and felt betrayed, ready to change Allegiance to the next wizard who proved to be worthy after Malfoy. Olivander also says his wand is decently pliable, probably indicating that it’s more flexible with ownership, unlike Bellatrixs wand that was unyielding and he warned to use carefully
@@Ditto-js1or he never warns Harry about Bellatrix's wand in the book but assures him it is save to be used after winning it in battle. Same goes for Draco's. It shifted allegiance because Harry took it from Draco by force at Malfoy Manor. Same reason why the Elder Wand changed his allegiance to Harry. He sensed that his chosen master had been bested and disarmed by Harry.
“It was a rumor,” whispered Ollivander. “A rumor, years and years ago, long before you were born! I believe Gregorovitch himself started it. You can see how good it would be for business: that he was studying and duplicating the qualities of the Elder Wand!” “Yes, I can see that,” said Harry. He stood up. “Mr. Ollivander, one last thing, and then we’ll let you get some rest. What do you know about the Deathly Hallows?” “The - the what?” asked the wandmaker, looking utterly bewildered. “The Deathly Hallows.” “I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about. Is this still something to do with wands?”
John Hurt, the best book character actor. He also played Winston in the film adaptation of the great 1984 by George Orwell. Can’t think of another actor who has done so many iconic book characters justice over several different novels/stories. Harry Potter, Alien, 1984, The Elephant Man. Truly a legend.
Canonically unicorn hair core wands are the hardest to turn to the dark arts are very loyal to their original owner usually unless your draco trying to force it to be bad
According to the filmmakers, the design of Bellatrix's wand was supposed to evoke the claw or talon of a bird of prey. Each wand was meant to visually represent their user.
This scene really illustrates the point that it is the character actors' delivering stunning performances in smaller roles that makes the Harry Potter films more than just special effects blockbusters. They are literature on film.
Interesting that a wand of Unicorn hair would change its allegiance. Typically the remain loyal to their original wizard even if they are disarmed. However the fact that Draco would pair with a unicorn hair core is indicative to how he does not aligned with the dark arts like his father.
Immagonko I don't know you but if I had lost every father figure in my life, friends by the tons, my pet and a psychopatic noseless creep with abnormally powerful magic did everything he could to murder the shit out of me, I would probably not be the most cheerful person in the planet. Just saying.
Immagonko He doesn't seem to hate Olivander, but rather I detect a certain anger at the fact that Olivander did try to lie to him in matters one shouldn't be lying about. Matters of life and death. So I understand Harry's anger, but I'm positive he doesn't hate Olivander.
+Immagonko In the book the wand maker always rubbed Harry the wrong way. He is very good at what he does, he condemns Voldemort and his actions. But in the book he also had an admiration for the Dark Lord and what he was abler to accomplish. If I remember correctly, Oliveander was musing on what great feats of magic Voldemort could accomplish with the Death Stick.
3:49 Kind of weird how this line from Mr. Ollivander was used in the promotional material for *_Deathly Hallows: Part 1_* multiple times when obviously, he didn't say it until this scene, at the beginning of *_Part 2._*
3:14 - 3:32 I love the background score when they talk about Voldemort having found the Elder Wand. It's eerie, dark, and mysterious and you can hear a history in those notes.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I enjoy it myself. I also enjoy how a wand can switch allegiance to wizard after being disarmed. I just wish I knew how it worked, since usually, being disarmed doesn't cost you your wand's allegiance.
They should do a spinoff regarding wandlore to further understand Ollivander's line of how the wand chooses the wizard. All we know from this is that allegiances change when a wand's owner is defeated in battle but little is told on HOW the wand chooses the wizard the very first time. The scenario is complicated with Harry as it is quite possible that the wand didn't choose Harry for who he was but rather because he had been "marked" by its brother. Could anyone else have claimed Harry's holly/phoenix feather wand had he not been marked by Voldemort?
Harry: I know he did terrible things to you, but--

oh for God's sake... Gallifrey Stands!
#gallifreystands
YAS
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Joseph Train At least a blast-ended skrewt didn't pop out of his chest
This is how I always think of him. I never realized he was Ollivander, but the trailers for that particular special pounded it into everyone's head that the War Doctor was John Hurt, and that's how I've always associated him, even after I realized he also started as the fabled Wand-Maker.
John hurt ALWAYS gives me asmr, and I am here for it :)
A video of Ollivander crafting some wands would be the Harry Potter universe counterpart of an ASMR video about wood carving.
i love john hurts voice
Drowsy19 listen to him as the dragon in bbc Merlin! It’s epic
He also voiced Aragorn in Ralph Bashki's Lord of the Rings
And he voiced Hazel in Watership Down. It bugs me how everybody forgets that one.
@@robertisham5279 He really made Aragorn seem king like
Who doesn’t, though?
want to say, John Hurt is an awesome actor!
John Hurt was a great actor, and was a very good election to play Ollivander. Amazing return he had to the saga
Where's wormtail's wand?
"if you won it from him" harry literally just grabbed the wand out of draco's hands. so much for _expelliarmus_, he just disarmed the poor boy the muggle way.
No one else think Radcliffe looks absolutely stunning in this scene? So handsome and with those big blue eyes staring into the camera...
I find it fascinating that Draco's wand shifted allegiance.
@@Ditto-js1or You make a good point there. And by disarming Malfoy, Harry owned two wands at the same time.
When you realize the actor of Ollivanders has died. RIP
For the Drarry fans 1:27, Harry handling Draco's wand with care (no pun intended).
Drarry
i love drarry
“It was a rumor,” whispered Ollivander. “A rumor, years and
years ago, long before you were born! I believe Gregorovitch himself
started it. You can see how good it would be for business: that he
was studying and duplicating the qualities of the Elder Wand!”
“Yes, I can see that,” said Harry. He stood up. “Mr. Ollivander,
one last thing, and then we’ll let you get some rest. What do you
know about the Deathly Hallows?”
“The - the what?” asked the wandmaker, looking utterly
bewildered.
“The Deathly Hallows.”
“I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about. Is this still
something to do with wands?”
That’s the art and challenge of media adaptation for ya.
RIP John Hurt
3:53 the most baddas line of the series.
lol
lmaoo
I loved this scene
I'd love to learn more about Wand Lore myself
And when he tells Harry he doesn't stand a chance is so chilling
John Hurt, the best book character actor. He also played Winston in the film adaptation of the great 1984 by George Orwell. Can’t think of another actor who has done so many iconic book characters justice over several different novels/stories. Harry Potter, Alien, 1984, The Elephant Man. Truly a legend.
Was this the old guy who gave Harry 1st wand in the store? in the 1st movie?
Yeah he is, the actor is John Hurt.
LukeForever
Obviously.
LukeForever Yeah duh
LukeForever yeah
LukeForever my friend the actor John Hurt was a absolute legend in any movie he played sadly he passed away.
He only remembers this because he went back in time to check whose wand it belonged to.
1:05 Is the wand whispering something to him?
Mr. Ollivander: The Wand chooses the Wizard.
Me: I know, Mr. Ollivander. You told me that 6 years ago, when I bought my Wand from you.
Rest In Peace :(
“The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter…” 😎
I think that dracos wand ‘changed’ it’s allegiance because he was never really on voldemorts side
No the night before harry escaped from the Malfoy manor! In escaping Harry disarmed Draco and this is the reason why draco's wand now obeys Harry.
Canonically unicorn hair core wands are the hardest to turn to the dark arts are very loyal to their original owner usually unless your draco trying to force it to be bad
@@flamebreaker7318 *you're
When exactly did harry disarm draco? Does he do it magically
I think Bellatrix's wand is so cool she definitely has one of the best wands of any HP character
Malfoy has a nice wand
@Jasper: Hah! GAY!
Victor krum
According to the filmmakers, the design of Bellatrix's wand was supposed to evoke the claw or talon of a bird of prey. Each wand was meant to visually represent their user.
Deathly hollows
Elder wand=Dumbledore ((then Voldemort))
Cloak of invisibility=Harry Potter
The resurrection stone=Harry Potter

^ Nice👏🏼⚡️
Lowkey wish they would do a mini-series on Ollivander’s adventures with wand-lore.
RIP John Hurt. Thank you for the great roles you gave us in movie History.
Why the fuck Harry is so mad? Olivander is a good guy
Immagonko I don't know you but if I had lost every father figure in my life, friends by the tons, my pet and a psychopatic noseless creep with abnormally powerful magic did everything he could to murder the shit out of me, I would probably not be the most cheerful person in the planet. Just saying.
Karl Mart yeah, but why Harry hate Olivander? They tourched him. And he's quite old.
Companioncube 41 oh, thanks
3:49 Kind of weird how this line from Mr. Ollivander was used in the promotional material for *_Deathly Hallows: Part 1_* multiple times when obviously, he didn't say it until this scene, at the beginning of *_Part 2._*
"He HAS found it Sir."
".............."
"We'll let you rest."
Like anyone could rest after being told that 😂
3:14 - 3:32 I love the background score when they talk about Voldemort having found the Elder Wand. It's eerie, dark, and mysterious and you can hear a history in those notes.
God bless John hurt a tremendous actor RIP💔
One unyielding. One reasonably pliant. Says something.
Such an intense scene brilliantly executed by Dan and John and this is just another example as to why I love Harry Potter
I just love how Olivander's story arc came full circle, from the first movie to the last like this.
my favorite characters in HP died
Snape
Ollivander
I love that in this conversation Hermione remains next to Ronald, like in the dialogue between Harry and the goblin.
HARRY HAS THE INVISIBILITY CLOAK!!!! HE KNOWS THE DEATHLY HALLOWS IS REAL
It was awesome seeing Harry grow up from a sassy kid to a bad ass.
3:37 always gives me chills. The music is so intimidating
What's the track called ?
We miss you Richard Harris,Richard Griffiths,Alan Rickman,John Hurt,Robbie Coltrane,Michael Gambon and Maggie Smith 😭😭😭😭😭
Fact: He was in first and last harry potter film
Man idk why that it’s so satisfy to watch Olivander hold, observe and explain the wands😂
I liked this guy
