Much appreciate it
i think hwei is deceptively simple.
maybe not “easy” but i feel like he’s fairly straightforward once you establish some basic combos with him.
the main issue with hwei is that some of his abilities feel, at best, very niche, while others feel extremely useful.
i don’t think hwei’s power is spread evenly throughout his kit, so he can feel clunky at times. his powerspikes are also relatively unclear at the moment, but that’s a given considering he’s a new champion. it will be interesting to watch this champion unfold as more people start to learn his intricacies.
another high-quality video from dobby as always.
I think that is mostly a problem with his w abilities. to me, his we looks like a way better ability than ww in any circumstance
@@karaneaagreed, although I did have one instance where i misclicked ww instead of we, but the shield ended up saving me xd
Yeah, hwei is actually simple to understand, he is not aphelios or invoker, as people hyped him up before release. He's good in late game and for teamfights, and his shield is kinda bad for those, feels like a shitty version of lux shield that applies less to teammates and only slowly applies over time in one little area. Using wq is way better and you probably be using ww only for the situations in lane where you cant outrun your opponent, preventing him fron poking you, or you can win a trade if you just stand still
Hwei is like Jayce but for mages
I don’t buy the “he is simple” argument, sure, his abilities are simple individually, but he has effectively 27 possible combos. Also, his abilities require 2 buttom presses, which can fuck you up if you panick during a fight. And the most importante thing, it doesn’t matter if you know what ability should be used in each situation, you still have to play enough for your brain to understand reflexively what it should do, because you won’t have time to think when you are getting dived by a jarvan
I have been waiting for this video since the character came out. You're the only person who does more than explaining the abilitys and combos of the champ, keep going Dobby you're amazing
15 minutes in practice tool would help you more
@@chrisbal4882 15 minutes in practice tool will never be the same as having someone explain what challenger players have figured to be the best way to play a champion, quit trying to be a smartass.
@@samuelcavalcanti3345 oh yea because challenger players came up with the brilliant idea to press Q W E right?you could not have figured that out for yourself?so you watched faker play zed that must be way more useful for you than trying it yourself in your silver games?
@@chrisbal4882 Sadly for you, i already played him at high elo and i play Invoker in Dota2 so Hwei is a lot easier for me :x
It's a lot better for the average player to see what high elo players are doing rather than testing for themselves, cause they'll just int their games; most of the playerbase is gold and below, and they can barely grasp Aphelios, you think they'll do good with this shit champion that has 9 skills? Youre either delusional or dumb lmao.
@@chrisbal4882 I agree. I watched a guy strip, powerwash, sand, stain and seal a deck on a UA-cam video. He made it seem so easy. I totally understood everything. Real life, nope. Nothing but cursing the guy in the video and back pain. The truth is, circumstances can always be different, and in his case, he had a crew of like 10 guys doing the work for him, meanwhile it was just me breaking my back. In the case of this video, he found 1 successful game and gave us a "play by play" "OOO i understand now"... no. Practice tool is the way, learn the muscle memory. I stopped this video once i read, "forget WQ and WW," WQ is one of Hwei's best abilites (there's a reason it was STOLEN from old galio!).... Using WQ to hit your own spells or dodge is the way - if you didn't know, you get the speed in any direction you run through it. So throwing it forward, running up to Q E and then using the remaining duration to disengage. EW is used when a jungler is in lane, it's follow up CC so it doesn't overlap. EW is also used when a target is in minions. EE is the easiest to land but does almost nothing. This video is trash, almost ALL of Dobby's videos are trash.
I always wait a week or two after a champion comes out:
1) Everyone loitering will get tired of playing on them
2) Dobby will tell you how to play correctly
This is the Hwei
Yeah, and I bloodly hate playing mirror matchups.
@@JeLomun briar still broken in right hands you have skill issues
@@user-ky1nx8sl6z besides druttut i don't think anybody on high elo can make her look decent. She has like 46% winrate on master + after a million nerfs which i don't even know why tbh. I guess low elo makes her look good where there are many better stat checker imo
This is probably the single best guide I've ever seen! Keep up the amazing work
He has a simple set of abilities. All the abilities can be written with 1 or 2 sentences. He isn't broken. But the items this season will be. For at least a month from now it's gonna be utter chaos.
agree the items look way more brokens then champions kits lol
Yeah.
Also, people saying Hwei is hard because he have 27 combos... just what.
Typical league players just talking without trying the champ@@sidradeave
Admit that his QW is actually broken. 1900 range. True sight. Crits. Comes from fog of war. Chases you with it. Procs passive or comet with it. Cooldown is 5s or less
@@Kyle-nm1kh Does negative damage to anything that isn't low health, negative damage to anything that isn't isolated, and its easy asf to dodge. That's not it being broken, that's you eating stuff with your face
This guide is goated !! I had already figured a few things from playing him a few games, but learnt so much here ! Thx !!
Ahhhh this is so helpful Dobby! He's my favorite champ they've ever made because I played Invoker before league. I appreciate this guide I feel like I can play 100x better now B)
Good job !!
Maybe Hwei is actually broken once figured out
Its not maybe, riot will need to make hwei a late game champ due to abundance of skill compared to others.
oh wonders, people couldn't figure out how to play this complex champ after 2 weeks and had an atrocious winrate. Reminds me of a few certain champs the last few times they came out. 2 penta kill machines to be exact. can't wait to see him in competitive and one shot anyone that dare to be close to him.
This might be the case. It's still too early to rule him out as useless or forgotten champ. People are still learning him.
@@thegreatotaku118he already is a late game champ
His kit is not that complicated but is very versatile and needs to have a lot of playtime before effectively utilizing him so yeah
So I can say I’ve figured out about half of these myself just by seeing what each ability does. However that e-e pulling into q-e combo is really dope. I figured his play style is to stack damage with his passive aka combos
The thing I never considered was ult into EW
@@the_last_balladew feels so clanky to me
@@Ainz_Oocuz its so short range compared to qw
I have been waiting all week for this vid. Thanks dobby
I struggled with him for a while, then yesterdsy I suddenly got a solo quadra kill with him after losing lane to Naafiri, he’s so versatile, when you know what spell to cast when, he’s great
I literally just bought him today and was confused by how he works. Thanks for the awesome vid now I can get kills with him
This is what happens when you give a champ 9 simple straightforward abilities that just work as intended, like wow an actually good champion for once good on you riot.
I love how the key to using him optimally is just...
"Play Hwei as Invoker from Dota", just like it was intended.
The problem I have with hweis existence is the power budget bullshit they talk about 😂
He’s cool af but they need to stop saying that when they nerf buff people then give certain champs literally everything.
CDR boots on hwei allow you to combo alot more effectively. CDR in general on hwei just feels really good. I think alot of people are going for burst but if you build towards CDR hes just alot better of a champ because you can just spam all your abilities
Yea but that's kind of the issue. He costs too much. I tried going syndra build (liandry cosmic) it felt awful because for one it wasnt very high dmg, but also even with w-e (which u cant press all the time, sometimes u need other W's too), you get oom so fast. He kinda needs mana efficiency, and having your spells do more less often is preferrable. 130 cost on Q hurts.
Idk, maybe if you go tear, but then he's even slower than now.
Also pen build is kinda op for just q-w random spam.
@@Craftee6 tbf ive never found mana issues when using liandries-CDR boots-horizon Focus. Like, as long as youre using W,E at the start of most combos you will only really struggle for mana if you spam all laning phase
@@gamingwalruslol7763 you have some mana issues in mid late when you have to wq a lot to navigate around the map. But at this point you should have blue buff up a lot of the time so I guess it evens out
Something I was wondering about hwei being in this weird spot gear wise is maybe he was just balanced around next season gear changes. Right now it's weird because you either have full damage or full cdr but no in-between but maybe s14 item changes let us be more flexible
Yea but blue dosnt have 100% uptime, and sometimes you need to press shield for example, and this is just disasterous for your mana.@@mawouel9606

Hwei is all about adaptability: choosing the right skill for the right situation. Also the muscle memory can be a bit difficult as every skill must be double tapped to use. Not to mention being able to cancel out if you pick the wrong one by tapping R. Emerald and below love to test out new champs, while higher elo are focusing on their mains and grinding MMR. Also not many people are familiar with artillery mages. So it's not weird that he has low win rate.
Yes he CAN be broken on the right hands. Being able to adapt to almost any situation (versatility) is completely broken in pro play.
I learn the "combos" at 2-d try. He is "broken" in 1 sequence - do aoe spells to utilize passive on most enemy champs to create chaos. Other than that he is pretty useless. ofc if he didnt spam QW out of nowhere constantly.
hes absolutely broken. when i play midlane i hate fighting against him. hard to kite bc of insane range and crazy utility in teamfights.
People just aren't used to immobile champions these days ig.
He is like the more complicated version of Xerath
You have infinite poke, mana, range and then get oneshot by assassin champs
Really not. They play completely different.
Difference is Xerath outdamages, outranges and outscales hwei at every stage of the game.
@@bananalover721except xerath has 100 mana cost abilities and hwei gets free mana from W and 3 abilities level 1 and lower cooldown so he can shove lane
@@Kyle-nm1kh xerath doesnt get free mana?
@bananalover721 I believe his passive is a long cooldown and is only reduced if you kill minions so you're pretty much forced to use your abilities on the wave
Try a Xerath vs Hwei match-up and you'll see what I mean. Hwei shoved the lane super fast and his QE zones you away cuz it's actually really wide. Once he has you under tower he can poke with QW and take no turret aggro. He can QQ you once he cleared all his minions. Not a lot a level 1 xerath can do. Xerath level 2 isn't good either. Xerath can't do a lot until his level 3 combo. Which eats up a ton of mana to use 3 abilities together. With Hwei push being so hard you use all your mana on the minions just to cs and he's full health cuz you aren't poking him so even your full combo won't kill him.
Lower cooldowns and mana cost make a huge difference.
Edit: btw I recommend Ziggs when laning against Hwei. Ziggs can wave clear fast to keep up with Hweis push and he doesn't have the mana issues like xerath and he has low cooldowns on that Q so he can actually do more than just wave clear. He also has long enough range to hit him when he's playing defensive
Finally i was waiting on your video to try the champ 😂😂😂
I'd like to had that in some games, using W Q (speed) in team fight in the direction of your adc can be rly nice and boost their kiting abilities
Feels like Hwei gonna be the league version of Invoker but easier on most sides
Karma R E + Hwei W was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my games
I just realised the 8/2 hwei took everything to barely kill the 4/6 Quinn in the first clip. 😭
hwei looks so complicated but he has so many tools in his arsenal
Another Dobby W
Hwei infographics when?
thanks for the video
I love this channel, they put name song below the describe ❤
If you could do an updated Azir guide, that would be appreciated👍
Hwei is surprisingly easier than expected. Also he works as support too like any mage. Also playing him on botlane you dont have to face assasins or Yone/Yasuo lanes
yasuos play adc :)
@@commenthandler I'm low elo (plat) but I don't see that work well. Maybe because most yasuos here are bad.
That Jhin W + Hwei QW at 09:01 is just too satisfying
He actually have so much lane pressure. The way the spells are, there's no counter play. You just get perma harassed like something like Xerath but better. People in low elo just don't know how to lane I guess.
This ^
Not much lane pressure at all. He has very high mana costs and low base damage, it's like playing vs lux but more versatile
I disagree. I'm in high eme and panth OTP, Hwei is ez lane. I struggle a lot more vs syndra ori and vex.
the champ gets outranged by Zed. Like wtf are you supposed to do on hwei if you cant even get into QQ range? Everyone has higher range, base stats and damage than him.
30% WR in every rank - "People in low elo Just don't know how to lane"
T1 should really swap faker for dragonoyxd!
can’t wait for the next champ ifeng
2:53 ideal combo is W+E->auto->ee/eq->auto->qq/qe for double passive proc
2:56 is wrong, you use wq a lot in late game as it gives move speed which is crucial to engage, get into position or out of fight. At the same time ww is good for blocking passive damage such as brand's burn or cassiopea/fizz/talon dots.
3:29 qe+ee is key only while enemies are not aware of this combo, later u need to mix in ew to block opponents options to move out of qe
3:34 ew+qw deals less damage than qe+ee to full hp opponent as qw damage scales from missing health, so its not the strongest combo, but strongest execute tool (which leads to mislead at 5:52)
4:47 is a good example where WW would be best option
5:01 its very incosistent to just throw R, u have to first limit opponents mobility by using qe/ee as shown in 5:12
6:39 while it worked if aatrox had reacted with flash or dash in time hwei would just die. Hwei's ability toolkit allows him to first limit mobility options of Aatrox and kill him without wasting flash as Aatrox just cant come close
8:06 this is good for poking out of team fights, but in them ur best option is qe+ee to hit multiple opponents. Each of them trigger ur passive dealing massive damage as result
You should make a guide, too.
also qq deals dmg % of max health, so if the enemy is tanky or has full hp bar it's better to cast qq, not qw
Hwei is sooo fun and good on the right hands
I'd recommend starting with E to poke at lvl1 with EE and then with W so u can proc the passive fast with EEWE
Best combo so far when u want to dmg is EQ+QQ (+WQ is u want to get away) but QQ can be changed with QW for the crit or if something stumbles into the way
The E spells all do the same damage, QQ does more against high max hp targets but also generally most solid poke for reliable burst, QW against isolated/low hp targets that you can only hit with that range or after you hit cc, and QE is just a go to when ur zoning/teamfighting, with liandries qe is nuts.
Finally, an outplay Oriana was 2 level ahead. WP :)
Its almost as of people need to first figure out how to play new champions
The abilities aren't actually that complicated. It's more of having to press two buttons per cast that takes awhile getting used to.
Hwei's complicated abilities were hyped up by the community, his designer actually worked to make sure they were straightforward and intuitive.
His high skill ceiling comes from the fact that a skill ceiling is measured by the room there is to make an error, and as every spell cast has an opportunity cost along with no mobility he has lots of room to make errors, both mechanically and decision wise.
he is that kind of champion when people know how to play it, it becomes extremely overpower. Perfect example are aphelios and yummi
I was playing Hwei since release cuz he fits my playstyle. He was extremly weak but after 50 games and hot fixes its hard to me to loose at lane.
update: after 100+ games I have 80% win rate and this Korean stuff is pretty easy to do.
As an ex mtg player, this champs for me is a "midrange" type, he can adapt vs any opponent but he is not really a specialist in anything, usually this decks are not the fastest early and can't go out of control wombo combo late but they have a very solid mid/late vs everyone bc of the many general use things the deck can do
As a supp main my eyes are pointed on how to use his more supportive spells the best way possible, i don't think as a supp his job is to hard poke, at that point take Xerath
Aint no Hwei
At 6:37 it s not r flash, but flash r or the ultimate has no casting time like for example jayce's q
Good video even if i was fine with the idea of everyone thinking Hwei was weak to not get perma ban 🙏
Most of the players dont know how to press buttons and can't reckon numbers. This is more complicated by the number of abilities to choose from. At the same time they lose to the store.
And yes, if ape cant one-shot opponent - he is weak by modern league standards.
He's honestly not that hard to figure out and fairly straight forward, he only got a lot of options, but kinda only one good option for any given situation. The premise was complicated, but with how high his cooldowns are, it simplifies him a lot.
that ult into QW is smart
He could just a bit of base protections and a buff to WQ (slow resist?) and maybe slightly more projectile speed on his EQ. But that’s honestly about it. IMO he doesn’t need dmg. He just needs survivability, a slightly faster fear and for his WQ to have a bit more utility
As for his shield I have seen a couple plays with it. You can bait people with it because it just keeps refilling your shield. Deceptively strong for prolonged trades (even if dmg+mana is preferred.
Yes the shield is actually one of his most broken spells but people downplay it
@@Yoogoproduction ain't no way its his broken spell when QW, QQ,QE, EE exists. Its definitely the shittiest one out of all of his kit, doesn't mean its completely useless ofc
i have played around 50 games with him now and i never had the feeling he was hard.
i struggled with activating and deactivating and at one point it turned into muscle memory and very rarely i missclick and press R.
oh and the random double clicks you got used to after playing for years
he seems to be buggy tho. whenever you press a spell once and use an item you cant deactive the skill but its actually deactived only the visuals dont match up.
its weird.
QQ and QE seem to be the same dmg dealt differently. i tend to use QE more often due to the wider range. QQ almost always only use in melee range or people being fast enough to run out before the 'QE animation finishes.
i wish the WW had more usages and EW feels bad to use in most situations.
also i always thought EW aims champs only but it seems to also being able to hit minions...it sometimes happens, it looks like a skillshot hitting the first thing it hits
very interesting champ
9:00 Master Jhin being proud of Hwei😌
Dobby can you do a Kayn video pls? I have trouble figuring him out
Sure !
Why against low hp targets you recommended eq qq instead of eq qw? W still deals more dmg to feared enemies than qq
I feel like I just watched a xerath guide. Use abilities when you can hit champ and wave. If they take to much poke you get free back or kill.
The only unique part with way is that when you poke you want two abilities at once not just a q like on xerath
the fact that WE can detonate at any point during a combo (if your R or QE is already hitting something) if you buff yourself while performing said combo is another deceptive part of his power.
I suspect that kind of "lack" of clarity will probably get shafted by riot as they do not tend to like that lmao.
I have feeling riot will nerf qw and make its cast range scale with points in ability..I snipe too many people under tower at lvl 3
From what I can tell, Hwei Q-E is essentially a Rumble ult on 4 seconds CD
much much less damage tho
More like velkoz W
Nah rumble R is devastating, hwei QE is tickling at best, is best for wave clear or zoning people's out
@@anargument1192
It's
70 / 140 / 210 / 280 / 415 (+ 112.5% AP)
For Hwei (with E)
Compared to
700 / 1050 / 1400 (+ 175% AP)
For Rumble.
Sure, Rumble R deals more damage (anything else would be weird, wtf is that base DMG btw), but it has 20× the cooldown. A good placed QE might not kill enemies instantly like a Rumble ult does, but it sure will win a teamfight in a chokepoint. Especially since Hwei can keep shooting other AOE stuff to proc his passive
there are 2 hard things abt hwei
1) doing combos fast
2) unlike many mages hwei need to go just little close to enemy champ to do his main combos so he should be abel to dodge atleast some of enemy's poke or find perfect opening to walk up .
hwei is not weak but he doesn't scale too hard . he is more good into melle mid laners and asol( :-) ).
glad to see im not the only one abusing his orbs, that shit is broken
damn i figured out all of these myself but i still panic mash whenever i get dived by an assassin 🤧
try cosmic drive 2nd aswell, feels amazing and makes up for his horrible base MS
from what i could gather u need flash every time to live an encounter or make a pog play...
w-q and w-w is not useless actually is very useful to help your team in a tf (w-q with fast reposition and run from a pick off and w-w for saving your carry).... but i mostly play Hwei sup so I'm not only concern about damage and cc but also peel. That's my tip!❤
It's Invoker playstyle gameplay in dota 2 it takes a lot of games to master invo
I have been doing everything shown in this video since his release and my winrate is still an abysmal 20% on 18-20games. Every game i play on this champ my team just finds a way to run it down and I genuinely think this champ is cursed.
I spammed hwei last week, he is good actually
It's the old Aphe and combo Ryze problem again when that was a thing.
You overload player with information and they don't know what to use, how to use and when to use it.
He has every tools in his disposal other than a dash: Poke with QQ, wave clear with QE, burt combo with QW, cc with EQ and good to counter all in, reliable longrange disruption with EW and EE, roaming tool with WQ, even more burst and poke tool with WE. The ult is just the cherry on top ngl.
He deals disgusting amount of damage if he goes even and be a straight up long range assassin when aheads.
Really had hope that Riot would give people more time with him before over buff and later has to re-nerf him again.
A few things I thought playing the champion:
-Q's cooldown is way too low at level 9. It should be increased a bit.
-QW's cast time should be a bit higher, as to make sniping a bit more unreliable.
-QQ/QE seem too strong, but as long as the cooldown is increased a bit that could fix it.
-WQ is pretty niche, but I give it a lot more of love than the video shows.
-WW is currently weak, it should have either a higher area or a higher shield-over-time.
-WE is fine, it's the lack of consistency in the other W spells that make it seem like the only viable options.
-EQ is straightforward (no pun intended) and quite reliable.
-EW is too high-risk high-reward currently. Maybe lowering cast time, range and root duration would make it more standard to initiate ignoring minion blocks.
-EE is great.
-R is also great, although 3 seconds of slow and zoning feels a bit much, maybe the overall duration of the spell could be shorter?
Overall - Nerfing a bit of Q spells and buffing WW would help the champ a bit, I feel like Riot was too scared of it having better odds as support than as midlaner and made WW too weak. I feel like the ideal spot for the champion would be whenever it manages to have it's skill order be a matter of debate.
It was always a matter of figuring out the efficient ability combos. Long cooldowns don’t help.
playing hwei feels like playing wildrift karma, swain and brand at the same time
So this new champion is LOL's Invoker?
Other counters, Irel. You get stunned, you die
If you understand his button then he literally is just another fun artillery mage
one thing that i dont see mentioned enough, maybe its so obvious that its not worth talking about, but i havent seen anyone say it, is how broken horizon focus is on him. legit the best item and i always take it second now. the extra dmg from the range is one thing, the cdr is also cool, but the bit that nobody mentions is your abilities also reveal enemies, meaning you can check bushes with qw when your team is too braindead to think about vision, you can more easily chain multiple abilities just bc you have this item vs trying the same without it
Especially with qw, the duration is 6 seconds and Hwei's q gets down to a base of 6 at rank 5, so it can chain qw repeatedly
8:11 why is someone throwing up in audio after it says "lets wrap up with a montage,"?

I played a bit of Hwei, and i feel like he needs both buffs and nerfs, mainly nerf his QW scaling because with AH its cd is low af, and buff his W skills CD because 15-12 seconds for some mediocre buffs is very shit, only WE is worth it because it restores mana and procs on other skills.
Overrall i really like him, i even thought i was playing Invoker once and threw my R randomly lmao
I played only Hwei at arena. At start he feels really weak I lose almost every game. But after I figure out how to play him he is really strong. He can do dmg to tank, burst carry, zone them. Win like every fight even 1vs2. Only weakness is Zed :))
my guy has free rumble ultis every few secs
I think hwei wr will skyrocket, but i guess he has a longer learning curve
How was he close to be forgotten, bro got released 2 days ago
I think people should probably give the players some time (maybe a week or two) to figure out the champion before actual judgement
Hwai Qw is Swain E with higher damage and shorter cooldown
Every single play in the montage involves flash
he's either really fast with each skill or at 10hp. he's definitely not easy to use
"This is Hwei, a champion with 10 spells 🧙♂️. QWE act as a spellbook. Q is for Damage 🔥, W is for utility 🛡️, E is for control 🕹️. QR/WR/ER washes your brush 🖌️, Combining QQ produces devastating fire 🔥, QW severing bolt ⚡, QE produces molten fissure 🌋, WQ produces fleeting current that enhances your/allied movement speed 🌊, WW generates a shield 🛡️, WE enhances your 3 auto attacks ⚔️, EQ fears your enemy 😱, EW grants vision in an area 👁️, EE pulls your enemy in the center 🎯. R stacks despair 😢."
Except there are no more mythic so what to build on Hwei now? 🥺
I don't think Hwei is a 200iq champ but on paper it may seem that way. He has an answer for multiple scenarios and figuring out how to use them efficiently, its the only aspect that will take time. I don't think his combos are mechanically hard at all. You've got damage, support utility, and cc line of spells between Q,W,E, it's that simple. Invoker is much more difficult to learn imo, which he is compared to often.
I think the reason why he is under performing is that he's been designed for the new season items, not for the current ones.
Cant wait till riot releases the next champion so i can play hwei
WQ and WW feel so bad, it's like WE isn't even a choice.
