It's bizarre that Jeff and Brad are confused by the UI - this is what happens EVERY TIME a UI is redesigned from scratch. The first version is always missing features that the older UI had, this is to ease the work on the developers i.e. they focus on what is essential initially and then over time they will work on adding older features back in and improving the way everything works. The good thing about what they have done here is that it is a clean and simple UI, for most people that did not spend the past 7 years playing every damn game that came out on every console, this experience will be a pleasant one. Jeff and Brad often forget that they are in a unique position in terms of the way they access and play games, I don't think they realize that the issues they have are generally not issues that most people buying a PS5 will have (not saying that the issues are not worth pointing out but they make a bigger deal out of those issues than they ought to here).
I was excited for the PS5 (i have it pre-ordered) but this video made me feel disappointed by the UI :/ It's those "little things" that feel wrong, but they pile up. That side scrolling trophy list is horrible, a simple list on PS4 was more readable. There are no folders or themes, i wish the UI was more customizable. Of course with time the updates will improve the UI, so we will see.
What Jeff is complaining about, already happens on PS4. Beta's, Alphas or Demos, show up in your Library as if you own the game. On PS4 though you can Hide them so they don't show up in your Purchased game library.
It seems like Sony is taking two steps forward and one step back with the new UI/overhaul but also in Web PSN. On the video topic, the only thing that bugged me to see is the Trophy being Tiles instead of List....just WHY!? Didn’t react to this since in the new Phone App they are listed. People REALLY need to make a buzz about this stuff just so Sony would act on this as soon as posible. We all know how slow they are on fixing/rolling in new features

these problems didn't exist in the older consoles because we didn't care about playing old games on new consoles...we wanted new experiences on new consoles. But now, instead of selling us new awesome experiences, some companies are choosing to sell us the same old games to play on yet another console...and the competition is following that lead now that the public has bought into it. My Sega Saturn could only play Sega Saturn games....not Sega CD games. If I wanted to keep playing Sega CD games, I would not need to buy a Saturn. If I wanted to play newer games that were not possible on the previous platform, I would get a Saturn.
I don't see the problem since we are still getting new games. You would have a good point if they sold a new console that plays only the old games. Now you're just complaining about a free extra, which is people don't need to keep previous consoles.
@@donnyestee What new games are on the Xbox? You missed point of comment...they aren't selling backwards compatibility as a bonus, they are selling it INSTEAD of new games....once they have another Halo or whatever, that will be all they talk about...but until then....break out them old games!!!!

That's old news. You need to research the difference between ssd and hdd. It needs the SSD to utilize speeds to handle large amounts of data. It's the same thing with xbox. It would drastically effect play and completely negate the benefits of the powerful cpu to play games from an HDD. Might as well play it on ps4 at that point. That's why there's an expansion slot with plans for third party supported ssd in the future. You CAN play your ps4 games of an external HDD.
@@Rashimotosan I know that. What Jeff is saying is that you cannot "Store" or "Transfer" the PS5 games to an external SSD. I am not talking about playing them off the external Storage here.
@@Harveevideos it's not that you can't. It's that there's literally no external ssd that's supports the required speeds to match the console's. Externals are always slower than internal SSDs/HDDs. Plus there's barely any external SSDs on the market.
@@Rashimotosan at 13:54 in the video. At the moment, there is no way to "Store" and "Transfer" games to any External Hardrive ( SSD or HD ). Again, not talking about "Playing" off the External Drive. Talking about "Storing"... which is crazy.

I mean you can't expect peaches and cream right out of the gate. Look how vanilla and bland the PS4 dashboard was at launch compared to now. I am sure there will be huge changes coming within the first year or two.
Can't you though? Why isn't it just the ps4 dashboard but better? Why do we start from square one every generation? Having problems the PS4 already solved is just baffling. While most of these problems don't affect me, I also just wonder... why?
@@SkitsofRandom It is because with each Sony console the dashboard changes drastically. If it was the same dashboard with minor improvements then I am sure it probably would obtain a lot of the old improvements. That is the cost when it comes to Sony wanting to change things up every generation.
@@travisscott9057 The features they're currently missing, such as folders for your games, are frankly embarrassing. This is a product which had 7 years to be conceived and created, and features like folders being missing are just silly to me. I prefer to expect more, not regression.
@@SkitsofRandom Well to each their own. I remember when the PS4 came out and we didn't get themes for the first 6 months when the PS3 had them at the end of it's life cycle. Sony has been doing this for years so it isn't anything new that there are features missing that was present on the previous console. I am sure if you let Sony know how upset you are about not having folders they will add them back in the first major update. Other than that there is really nothing we can do unless you want to make the jump over to Xbox..
@@travisscott9057 Such a dumb way to think about it. Of course this doesn't hurt the console at all, but isn't it a little pathetic I'm even able to level these criticisms at Sony? Like Jesus, sorry doing more than bare minimum on each iteration is too much to ask. Next time I won't ask for revolutionary features like themes, hiding games, and making folders. Those are clearly too hard to fit in.
Probably have all of the user names as anonymous so that someone doesn't accidentally get shown to have it. If someone could see that prelaunch you could figure out who had a kit. That might lead to people being harassed to show coverage/do a review, or it would show which developers are working on PS5 titles. It makes sense to me to hide them all until a day one launch patch to the firmware to show them.

Jeff and Brad often forget that they are in a unique position in terms of the way they access and play games, I don't think they realize that the issues they have are generally not issues that most people buying a PS5 will have (not saying that the issues are not worth pointing out but they make a bigger deal out of those issues than they ought to here).
this is like the XMB menu but... more complicated.
@Splash • 20 years ago yes
Finally a honest look and not this fanboy shit. Looks like the UI needs updates...
Bout time downloads and installs are fast the damn dial up modem in ps4 was crazy
Can you connect Bluetooth headsets without adapters?
The downside of a UI overhaul for a new generation is losing features you’re used to that may or may not ever be added back with updates.
How the PS4 handled your digital library was complete trash. Sad to see they didn't fix it.
What Jeff is complaining about, already happens on PS4. Beta's, Alphas or Demos, show up in your Library as if you own the game. On PS4 though you can Hide them so they don't show up in your Purchased game library.
Why is nobody showing the “media” part of the UI?
That's the store, so they can't show it.
They can’t show that they even said it in the video Sony would fuck em if they do show it so does the ps store.
@@BackwardsCombatable It’s not the store, they just can’t show the store as well as the media tab
Today I learned the PS4 displays patch notes.
The patch notes arent shown for PS5 because its not out yet
U can still gameshare right?
2:37 where can I find this music
Such a beautiful console.
We all know how slow they are on fixing/rolling in new features
how can i see friends activity because no what's new like ps4
Man..... what a oversight for ps5 games not being cold storage Jesus Sony
Yeah it's ridiculous!
@@dynamike549 tbh agree with giant bomb a lot of nice features for ps5 owners and some i wish was coming to xbox dashboard but it does feel like a quick put together (a lot of silly minor mistakes that will be fixed with patches) but if the ps4 os had them why was it stripped out??
is it to say hey we got this again in 2 weeks time etc and everyone goes YAY THEY LISTENING?
@@bravedwarf yeah it's very weird.. I really don't know what's going on.
Maybe PS5 games need a different type of formatting and partitioning to be able to coldstore PS5 games?
these problems didn't exist in the older consoles because we didn't care about playing old games on new consoles...we wanted new experiences on new consoles.
@@brodysdaddy that's because xbox is shit, not a real console
How long did the game download for
Sigh! What happened to the good ol days of Playstation home, Pulse, the tester and all of the other game shows! Can we at least get a music Visualizer
What about custom backgrounds ? How does that work
That's not available yet
@@Maya_k that sucks, it seemed like a fundamental feature to have at launch.
mans just said fuck it and bought a gamestop
There's a way to extend the amount of games on the homepage. It's a setting. It was on the ps4 pro too I just don't remember where.
PS5 is different, may not be implemented yet.
@@DauntlessDamian I'm thinking they just don't know where the setting is. It wasn't exactly an easy find on the Pro either. And pretty sure I saw other UI vids where ppl were scrolling longer. I think it's there. Would be odd to remove.
What's the actual size of the storage in the settings?
I hope we have an option to get rid of the wallpapers filling up your screen everytime you scroll through your games. Looks super tacky and over the top.
Why did they make turning it off harder!?
Can we play together,i mean not a PVP or play together using wifi, playing together using two controller
At 02:25 it shows an option for organizing ps3 games too? Will we eventually get ps3 compatibility or what is the point of that if not?
Its for ps3 titles in available on psnow
@@user-kk4es3li1p That makes sense. Hope they can get that feature working better this next generation.
@@ryanharvey4303 but you can't download games from ps now in your library
@@tomjerry3548 I know that, but I think you can launch them from the home screen if you have Ps Now on ps4.
@@ryanharvey4303 correct
two times the bugsnax can't be wrong.
Huh, some of the horizontal scrolling tiles remind me of the Metro UI / late Xbox 360 UI.
Not a good thing.
Addiction centered design; made to be frustrating and random and slow, and then rewarding at just the right intervals to keep people trying to use it.
astros playroom platinum confirmed thanks
WHY would they not make the Library card the FIRST one in the list. Scrolling is annoying AF.
Pressing R1 takes you all the way to the right on the game library card.
It makes sense to put recent games at the start.
Or like ps4, there should be a dedicated library button
Honestly a lot of the complaints they have for the UI and system are problems most users are not going to experience. Because of their jobs and everything they need to do will cause some annoyance, but yeah most average consumers will not have any issues
No patch notes on ps5 games ?
This ui blowss, u should also check out how they literally came out and they said theyre anti japanese. It's also stupid as shit how they dont give you a free upgrade to the ps4 version of spiderman so youd have to buy it twice if you wanted to play the ps5 version
Some disappointing backward steps here compared to the PS4 UI design. Poor uses of space all round.
downloads might be slower once more people have these consoles and there's more load on the servers
Um the ps5 uses the same servers as the PS4.
Literally the same servers as the ps4
Quick Look = 32 minutes lol wtf
New to Giant Bomb?
Wait wait wait. You can't store PS5 games in an external Storage? WTF
@@Harveevideos not really if you know how SSDs work and I just explained why it wouldn't be supported and the whole thing about speeds. But go off..
Whats the add on for Astros playroom is it free
@Enid Mendoza I know the game is free I'm talking about the add-ons when he went to trophies for Astros playroom it also showed Astros playroom add-ons do you have to purchase the add-ons or are they free
The tv I have for my ps4 should I keep it or buy another new tv for the ps5.
yes
Couple things ;
1. What
Kind of TV is it? FHD (1080P)
or is it a 4k TV?
If it's a 4k TV then your golden if it's a 1080P TV you're ALSO golden.
So just one thing in 2 parts, lol
So don't need to buy another new tv right. Thank you
Wait till next year after Christmas. The updates for hdmi 2.1 should be on most tvs and costs will drop as the 2021 models come in.
Throw your old TV in the garbage, if you don't have the LG CX you might as well cancel your PS5 pre order.
I look at this video and I'm thinking I hope Sony execs are watching your video with all these tips being discovered for them to improve upon.
Hell yeah, WebM!
Anonymous means the person is appearing offline I believe
Hey guys do it got folders
I really wish the games applications are at the very bottom than on the top so we can clearly see the great artwork without them being covered
How big is 40 minutes recorded but in 4K format? I noticed the 6GB screencast you had is 1080p. ;)
The apps are so small its annoying me
I mean you can't expect peaches and cream right out of the gate.
PlayStation need a new UX designer
Probably have all of the user names as anonymous so that someone doesn't accidentally get shown to have it. If someone could see that prelaunch you could figure out who had a kit. That might lead to people being harassed to show coverage/do a review, or it would show which developers are working on PS5 titles. It makes sense to me to hide them all until a day one launch patch to the firmware to show them.
