Pieter Straatman (1968) is a composer, pianist and orchestrator based in the Netherlands. His cinematic idiom is a refined synthesis of the epic, lyric and dramatic, with compositions reflecting psychological insights and natural phenomena in contradiction and symbiosis.
Straatman studied piano and composition at the Brabants Conservatory. His teachers were Ton Demmers (piano), Kees Schoonebeek (composition) and Ad van Sleeuwen (analysis and harmony). After this Straatman studied Musical Technology at HKU and followed lessons at the Utrecht conservatory from Henk Alkema (composition).
His work covers the combination of classical and contemporary influences, and is heard throughout all of his work. After his studies, Straatman composed many kinds of music for many years and found his signature sound in paradoxes inherent to humanity: serenity and heroism, euphoria and despair, vulnerability and power.

‘Love’ is a collection of different emotional and mental expressions that people and animals feel and share with each other. Love provides connection on the one hand, but it also has its dark sides. It can also cause people to become separated, or even resentful.
The ‘Ballet of Love’ is an album of 14 piano works, each symbolizing their own part of love. It concerns a time journey through the composer’s life over a period of 35 years in which the origins of these works lie at various times.
