I understand this is one room/space but a slow video walk-through with multiple perspectives would be very helpful in getting a better feel for the space. Nothing overproduced, just another layer to the presentation. Loved the result.
Well designed. Some close ups of some of the finishes would have been great to see the textures and styles you used. Especially in the kitchen area. Nice, clean, proper and professional looking.
I always lean toward this style for myself personally. I am glad that you noticed that creativity and personality need to be prevalent vs what social norms dictate. 🙂
I'm a fellow Arch Designer and I would like to provide a heart felt complement. Nice work! It's been a while since I saw something inspiring. Thank you. Just Subscribed.
I am seriously impressed. While I'm sure it was not cheap, it also looks like it did not cost a fortune to achieve the look. I'm really impressed with how well you brought everything together.
Soon I'll be moving into the basement in the house that belongs to my family. And as I am currently unemployed, I can't afford a treatment like this, but I appreciate what you did to that room. Looks fantastic! When I find a job, I will come back to your channel for more inspiration mate!
"That rug really tied the room together." - The Dude Sorry, I'm a child and can't help myself. The room looks great! Makes me want to slide into one of the chairs and drink a really good Bourbon. Cheers!
I really enjoyed this video. I found it, because I am looking to style my basement office with this kind of gentlemanly sophisticated style. I am an Engineer and I spend a lot of time in my office that I hate! I also work with people in my Church and would like a nice comfortable and cozy atmosphere to make others feel at home. The problem I have is that my basement has low ceilings and limited natural lighting. Approximately 7 feet from the joist to the floor with plenums I have to duck my head under. I am 6'3" tall. The other obstacle is using dark heavy tones like you used in this video in such a confining space. I am sure there is a way to accomplish this, but I am at a complete loss. on how to do it. If you have more content that might send me in the right direction or some personal tips, I would love to hear what you have to say about it. Great job on this project it is fantastically handsome and masculine!

Great Video, I love the explanation of the what, where and why you designed something, looking at this it most certainly was/is a case of "Finally a designer for a masculine space" I have always had a natural attraction to the cigar lounge/dark academia side of things, and think that this design is just great, I am now going to proceed to go through your back-catalogue and see what else you have
Just a tip, and no offense intended, but you should just do voiceovers and not show yourself so much in the video. People want to see the designs, not you speaking. Just saying….
I marvel at what people like you can do! Architecture, decor, space, lighting, etc. is something to be truly proud of! I tried to build a box and it exploded.
That looks great. I'm in the middle of a basement man cave build now. Flooring is going in now. I'm going for more of a sport bar theme with a pool table, Granboard, and bar area to start.
I love videos on architecture and room and house interior and exterior designs. You did an excellent job. The dark academia of the bookcase was a smart choice by your client.
As much as I like the black/grey look, I think I would use a dark brown for the trim and hang a few more artworks. I would also restrict the recessed lighting to said works of art and focus more on desk lamps for specific spots like the reading chair or the office desk. I do like the hanging lights over the island but I would prefer direct lighting over the cooking area.
Your designs never cease to amaze me! It serves as great inspiration in motivating me to finish my spaces, as I’m doing it all myself. As a fellow designer, I appreciate your eye, style sense and flawless execution. Bravo!
Looks great! That painting was an excellent choice. A frame TV with a brass or gold custom frame would have fit the vibe, especially flush with the wall.
There are many elements here to get inspired by. I especially like the pecan ceiling planks in the kitchenette. Combined with the beams and what looks like a 2nd color of planks? Set off with the 3 small pendants. I've been vaguely unhappy with my small kitchen and this ceiling treatment will make me happy. Copying it.
I just happen tocome a cross your UA-cam videos of this gentleman lounge. I like what you have done. As for me i have a basement that I would love to turn into a english themed billard room. I am a avid photographer that would love to include that as part of my theme.😂
It looks really nice, with class. The only thing I don't like is that desk - it is very small and by sitting at it you're looking at the wall. Also the trick here is making pictures "before" and "after" from a different angle, so the differences will be even bigger. I really like it, it's one of the most gentelmanly basement I've ever seen, good job.
My finished basement was just gutted due to a water main break. I love what you did here. I don't think it's just for gentlemen. As a woman, I love the permanence, warmth and tradition of it. You mentioned that this basement did not have high ceilings. Neither does mine. I worry that if I paint my ceiling a darker color, it will visually feel like a cave. Can you offer some suggestions to offset that? Thank you!
Of course! 1) Be mindful of the furniture you choose and it's height. Make sure the furniture is assisting in giving the appearance of traditional sized ceilings by being smaller in stature 2) Vertical patterned accent walls through paneling or wallpaper will help to elongate walls 3) Placing curtain/drape rods high up, close to the ceiling, and having your drapes fall a further distance to the floor 4) If you're going to use lighting on the ceiling, generally recessed or flush mounted lights will work best. 5) Floor to ceiling bookshelves 6) Taller, more thin organization of decor items. (i.e. setting up a gallery wall to be a vertical rectangle as opposed to hanging your photos horizontally across a span of space)

I am trying to do something similar. However, I and not able to add a wood burning fireplace. Complicated to get the necessary ventting, etc. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations on an electric fireplace, perhaps with a mantle. The ones I see are appear to be mounted, and modern
It’s nice & safe. But A little stiff. It’s a typical European/UK Gentlemen’s Private (cigar smoking, library) club vibe. Which is great for some people. It would’ve been Cool if they thrown in a fabric couch & cheers from the 70s or something,,, give it a little pop. But it’s nice. I like the color, palette and the kitchen.
There are a few ways and we've done it in various ways for different designs - It really depends on the look you're after! Sometimes you embrace the column... Sometimes you make it into something else as if it were there on purpose.
you are absolutely ridiculous. I love everything about this. It is so hard to believe this is the same room. Would love for you to design my 1869 “living room”. You have an eye. How did you end up in my feed? Definitely will be checking out more.
Very well done. Dan had a specific point of view, and then went with it. (Small quibble: table lamps are too traditional. Something clean and modern would have elevated the entire room. )
Love your content, you're going to do really well if you keep at it! One piece of constructive criticism: please consider getting a pop filter for your mic. Hey where are you based? I am interested in your services. I'm based in London looking to get my apartment a makeover and love the dark masculine theme throughout.
Ive tried out the iron ore by sherwyn Williams, but it gives of more of a plain dark grey color than a grey brownish color like in the video, any help?
Ah yes.... The factor that is missing here is light warmth. The video is giving the appearance of a warmer tint as that signifies the warm bulbs/light bouncing of the walls. You can either add warm bulb light to the room or adjust the paint color altogether.
might be an aim for getting a job in the future..as well as digging through the floor as i don't have a basement..mh how much dynamite is needed in your opinion?
Good point out - No reason, really. Just a visual effect of trying to use the space on the screen correctly in the video edit. Maybe I should expand the images as large as possible in the video.

😂
He probably Has a good reason.
Please add a few hundred more for his vented fireplace because ventless is just screaming for carbon dioxide
I was considering this exact idea myself. Basements are generally dark, so lean into it. Don't do sports bar, think cigar lounge instead.
Exactly 👏
Cigar Lounge/Home Gym would be my dream basement.

This isn't just a Gentleman's Retreat, it is a classy and elegant multipurpose room for anyone that loves the appeal of it...including women like me.
I love the look, the only thing I would have done different personally, was opted for a built in fridge/freezer with panels to match the cabinetry.
Keep it for the kitchen
