I really enjoyed this video. I found it, because I am looking to style my basement office with this kind of gentlemanly sophisticated style. I am an Engineer and I spend a lot of time in my office that I hate! I also work with people in my Church and would like a nice comfortable and cozy atmosphere to make others feel at home. The problem I have is that my basement has low ceilings and limited natural lighting. Approximately 7 feet from the joist to the floor with plenums I have to duck my head under. I am 6'3" tall. The other obstacle is using dark heavy tones like you used in this video in such a confining space. I am sure there is a way to accomplish this, but I am at a complete loss. on how to do it. If you have more content that might send me in the right direction or some personal tips, I would love to hear what you have to say about it. Great job on this project it is fantastically handsome and masculine!

Also the trick here is making pictures "before" and "after" from a different angle, so the differences will be even bigger. I really like it, it's one of the most gentelmanly basement I've ever seen, good job.

There are many elements here to get inspired by. I especially like the pecan ceiling planks in the kitchenette. Combined with the beams and what looks like a 2nd color of planks? Set off with the 3 small pendants. I've been vaguely unhappy with my small kitchen and this ceiling treatment will make me happy. Copying it.

Good point out - No reason, really. Just a visual effect of trying to use the space on the screen correctly in the video edit. Maybe I should expand the images as large as possible in the video.
There are a few ways and we've done it in various ways for different designs - It really depends on the look you're after! Sometimes you embrace the column... Sometimes you make it into something else as if it were there on purpose.
I personally would've went with a darker yet warmer tone wood flooring to give it that true Dark Academia type of style. However, this isn't bad at all. I just feel the flooring is a bit too light for the overall design. The client wanted it that way, though. So I get why it wasn't switched out.
Just a tip, and no offense intended, but you should just do voiceovers and not show yourself so much in the video. People want to see the designs, not you speaking. Just saying….
I’m part of the rare few who hates cookie cutter houses and rooms….which is why I will build my house someday. I can’t wait. What sucks but also I hoping fun is, the house I want doesn’t exist anywhere and will be completely from scratch….this should be interesting.
Wow. I would like to see some less than professional pictures or videos as well. I want this in my house so bad. Man caves are often just fun things displayed around a central tv. This looks relaxing and miles away from the noisy kids upstairs.
I wouldn't see any problem with having a nice leather chair with some small wheels. I just wouldn't be incline to put a big gaming/ergonomic chair that would make it look to "corporate"
Bigger rug, and you're spot-on. (Too small and it looks like "a postage stamp in the center of a sheet of paper" or you run the risk of it looking like a lifeboat in the center of the ocean, with all the furniture drifting away. If appropriate sizes aren't available for the rug you select, there are many excellent choices with binding carpet with a bold design, or a good binder will be able to join two rugs together for a larger size if the patterns match, or add banding to the existing rug. Choose a reputable local flooring store and they can point you in the right direction. EXCELLENT color choice, --SW7069 is a personal favorite-- and the bookcases are brilliant. I was considering this exact idea myself. Basements are generally dark, so lean into it. Don't do sports bar, think cigar lounge instead.

I love the look, the only thing I would have done different personally, was opted for a built in fridge/freezer with panels to match the cabinetry.

Looks good, but I wouldn't use LVP for the flooring. The room is not that big and reclaimed wood would look more rustique and masculine.
Agreed that a change of flooring would enhance the room; However the customer requested to keep the flooring, so we worked around it 👏
