Wow, I love the tone very much. I had the area series decade ago, it didn't sound like yours, it was so thin, but lack of chime. Love the virtual vintage, it growls like a p90 ❤❤❤
Great comparison! I like the Virtual Vintage Blues in the bridge with an Area 58 in the middle and an Area 67 in the neck. The Injector Neck works very well in the bridge, perhaps better than the HB2 if you find the HB2 lacking in top end, especially in position 2.
VV54, Area58, Area61 is my preferred setup, together with blender and global tone pot. Really like that "woodiness" of the 54, but all those PUs are great.
I like both the 58 and 54 pro in the neck, I have a custom 50s pickup in there that I like. Right now I have a Injector Neck in bridge, it started in neck, but was too warm in this guitar. Right now I am considering, Injector Bridge in brodge, Injector Neck in middle and a 58. Possibly a 54 pro in middle and 58 in neck. The fun of being a guitarist.
Both sound great in all positions. I'd go with the gold guitar if I wanted all the vintage strat tones but I think the sunburst guitar is probably more versatile for a wider variety of styles and tones. Still stratty but overall fuller and thicker sounding and that bridge pickup had an almost humbucker toughness and middy crunch when you were digging in on those overdriven power chords. A more hard rock set. I've got a feeling that bridge pickup could shred if you cranked the gain.
I'm so glad I found this video... I think that for people going after SRV's tone, the Area 61 & 58 are what they're after. They have a more open sound. But, to my ears, for sitting down and playing general blues, I absolutely love the deep, smoothness of the 54 Pro & Heavy blues. They sound beautiful to my ears. Music Man is putting some Dimarzio single coils in their Cutlass models (or they were at some point) that sounded incredible, that remind me of the 54 Pro & Heavy Blues. This was the perfect demo for guys trying to decide which one. I've got a question.... If you had a guitar that was just an HS setup (H in bridge w/ one single coil in the neck, which of these would you put in that position? I'm having a custom Tele built, with that setup, and trying to figure out which pickup to use. GREAT video....thank you for sharing.
The set in the sunburst is far superior IMHO. Sounds like a blanket was taken off the guitar compared to the set in the gold strat…. And the heavy blues in the bridge kicks ass…
Great Demo! The VVHB2 has become my noiseless of choice. And.....It works GREAT with 500k pots. I have it in 2 HSH guitars and it sounds terrific with 500k pots. It is also a great neck pickup in an HS guitar because it has enough output to hang with a full size humbucker all the while retaining that single coil quality. It will soon be in my sss guitars as I have a G&L Legacy that is dying for some noiseless singles. Again, terrific demonstration and comparison to the 58/61 combo that is so popular (with good reason as they too sound great). And great playing. On another note, if you like neck pickup soloing under higher gain, the HB2 is great as it tracks quickly and doesn't mush out under gain. Really great pickup that can cover a lot of ground.
Thank you! I really appreciate that! That's what I like to do...make the videos that I want to see. I've been comparing these pickups in my heads for years but couldn't ever find a good comparison. Thank you for your kind words
Which do you think goes better with a DP 61 on the arm, a DP 67 or a DP 58? Thanks for the excellent video and the tips... A "Salve" from Laerte from Brazil!!
Good demo. Have to say to my ears the difference between the Area 58s,(I have them in my own Strat), and the VV 54s is subtle, the 58s having a touch more high end. Big difference between the Heavy Blues and Area 61 though, the former sounding a lot fuller.
First and foremost I like your guitar playing I have a fender 70s reissue Stratocaster Bond Ash body Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard it has area 61 in the bridge area 67 in the middle area 58 in the neck.
It would be cool to hear the Area 58 vs the HS-3 in the neck. Those are the two Dimarzio singles that sound the best to me. In the bridge I like a bucker...like the Super D-S or Duncan JB Jr. I LOVE a good neck single coil tone, though, as well as the quack in pos 2 (neck/middle). I just got given to me a (crappy) Squire Strat that I'm going to keep the body, but replace all the parts - Warmoth neck with reversed big 70s headstock, Super Vee Bladerunner bridge, locking tuners, Graphtech nut, and a pickguard loaded with Dimarzios...58, 67, and Super D-S. Should be killer!
The 54s sound more vintage and have that sound. I like the quack on sunburst. Bridge pickup is great more modern sound. Areas great too more Texas sound I think. How would these sound in a basswood guitar. Similar to swamp ash. Also try a series parallel switch on bridge and middle for super fat solo sound
I prefer'd the 54's to the 58's in this video, but I suspect that with minor height adjustments (eg. lower the bass side on the 54's a mm or 2... .) and tweaking the tone pot, we could make either sound so close to the other that 98% of players couldn't tell which you were using.
Hey man! Glad I ran across another one of your videos! How do you like the MJTs? I want to build another strat spec’d similar to my Lincoln Brewster but with a few tweaks and I’m on the fence between Warmoth and MJT. Curious what an MJT Strat runs cost wise to have them build it. I’m going to take another listen here in a bit with better speakers or headphones but the ‘54 pickups sound pretty darn good!
The 58 is my favorite single coil; I have 5 of them. The 61 has a harshness that I don't care for and the 67 is too zingy for my tastes. ....but man that 58 is perfect. I'm currently considering trying a VV 54 pro in the bridge slot.
@@thiagonogueira9363 I did for years. It's a great pickup. I've moved one of my strats to HS-2s wired single and that's underrated for both neck and bridge. ....but the areas are fantastic!
So I went the 58's and 61 BC that's what Lincoln Brewster uses (I'm a bit of a fan if you cant tell 😉) I have had the 67 in the middle and it sounds decent for a middle pickup. I do think I have a 67 in the neck of a little project guitar I'm working on. I'm pretty sure that's what that is and if it is it's a fantastic neck pickup!
@DH Music I have the DiMarzio area set. I want to say it's 58,67,61. 500k Volume and Tone. They sound so good they make me smile every time. Have to remember that they are extremely height sensitive.

Man, great demo!!! I thought I was gonna like the 58/61 combo better, but the 54/Heavy Blues was way more to my tastes!!!
The gold guitar sounded best to me. The sunburst was awesome, but as you say, the gold was "home" - it just sat right where it should. Great demo!
VV54, Area58, Area61 is my preferred setup, together with blender and global tone pot.
Really like that "woodiness" of the 54, but all those PUs are great.
More playing, less talking 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the comparison. I still like the 58/61 combo better. It captures the chimey fender sound better and is brighter with more clarity.
Thanks for the demo! Great comparison, this is a tough decision

Finally someone with logic about it in all my time playing I’ve never used a neutral clean tone so it’s like why bother? That was good man.
i guess I am kinda off topic but do anybody know a good website to watch new tv shows online ?
@Eric Luis Flixportal :D
@Ari Martin thanks, I signed up and it seems to work =) I appreciate it !!

Good job. 54Pro sounds great in the neck. Thanks for demoing for us.

Excellent review...Gonna purchase the HB2

Try the Fast track 1 in the bridge of the sunburst. Much strattier than the Heavy Blues 2. And a bit louder.
Hey man, that's a great video. I loved the VV 54 Pro. I think I will buy a set with two of them and a Virtual Solo for the bridge position.
I may have missed it, what resistance pots did you use 250k or 500k?
Thanks for the demo

That squire will be lethal at that point! That sounds awesome! You should make a demo of it once you soup it up! I'd love to hear that.
4:57 is what you're here for.

I think the 54pro HB2 can use 500k pots, or as dimarzio says, 250k volume and 1Meg tone pots!!
1 meg may be a little much lol I have thought about going to 500k bc these pickups are on the dark side for sure
Great! Really helped me. Nice shirt.
Thanks man. Gold strat sounds more open to me. The burst strat seems to have a more rounded, lower output type tone
Agreed

What do you think about a HB2 in bridge and neck with Area 58 middle?
this is a very good video! but also not that helpful because both guitars sound great 😂 nice job!
I’m thinking of adding the heavy blues 2 with area 58 what do you think?

Do u use area 58 on the neck position ? Thx

@@BenBreard thanks for ur fb!
Have you tried the Area 67s? Just curious as to why you opted for two Area 58s, over the others. Great comparison, btw!
So I went the 58's and 61 BC that's what Lincoln Brewster uses (I'm a bit of a fan if you cant tell 😉) I have had the 67 in the middle and it sounds decent for a middle pickup. When you bought those what was the color name of the pickups? I know there is aged white and then cream on their site.
Which ones? there's six pickups in this video lol
From memory the area 58s and 61 were cream and the virtual vintage were aged white
Sorry lol I meant the Area 58 and 61. I have aged white knobs from Fender and I wasn’t sure if you chose the cream pickups or the aged white pickups.
Great demo! What kind of amp, drive pedal and mic did you use for this demo?
Watch it again... he tells you what he’s using. About a minute before he starts playing and explains why he’s playing that way...
What capacitor are you using?
what does he plays at 15:49?
John Mayer's "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room"
povedené video....
58\61 wins it all
@DH Music I have the DiMarzio area set. I want to say it's 58,67,61. 500k Volume and Tone. They sound so good they make me smile every time. Have to remember that they are extremely height sensitive.
Hey great tones man!! So using 250k pots all around??? The 54s and heavy blues combo sounds brighter than the area set!! Both great ofcourse!
Yes sir 250k for everything
@@dhmusic8461 Thanks for the reply man...great work!! How are the mjt strats!!
@@anmolatwal thanks bud. They're awesome man. I actually have a tele in the works with them right now
😁👍👍👍👍🙋🇦🇹🙋🎯
Not bad but I'd rather have Hot rails..
Great pickups...very different beast than these pickups though
Pro 54 Vs Area 58 very similar to me. Area 61 Vs Heavy Blues 2 , I prefer much more Area 61
