Just a tip, if your silicone smells like vinegar then it is acidic and not great around metal or electronics. You might have trouble weeks, months or years later with corrosion from that if it is acidic. A safe sealant would be Permatex Ultra-Black RTV. There is also "The Right Stuff" but it is not said to be sensor safe. That Ultra-Black RTV is sensor and electronic safe, non-corrosive and re-workable (meaning you can remove it if necessary). You could even pot the back of your LEDs or circuit boards with a small amount and remove it later if you needed to. Test it out, it works.
@@arva1kes Well, I guess the weight of the transmission would be fine on the pan for some transmissions, but the number of transmission bolts doesn't even come into play here as it is the entire pan transferring the force directly. And some transmissions, like the NAG1/722.6, they don't use RTV, they have a rubber gasket that will be destroyed if you apply too much force on it. I think the clamping force of the 6 bolts is 8Nm... about 6ft/lbs... An older gasket certainly won't survive, especially if you distribute the 300lbs transmission weight unevenly. Maybe a newer one can but that is a lot of weight on a rubber gasket even if the load is distributed around the perimeter evenly.
I put on 2 MP8 pan today, 18ftlbs20°. I lace all corners, and the furst one got a thin 3/32Ish line all Round as it felt a BIT smoother than I prefer. But at 3-400$ each. They get reused until it takes a fat blade to remove, or get seriously injured otherwise.
@@arva1kes hey, I think I got mixed up on what the original post was so my last reply was probably not making any sense. The RTV that mechanics use is fine but you need to pay attention to its intended use. Any RTV or silicone sealant that has a vinegar smell is not safe around electronics. Some of them will start to smell as they set but Ultra-Black RTV is sensor safe and electronics safe.
They look awesome. Makes me want to go pull the tail lights off my parts car and tear them open and makes me wonder what I might be able to do to make the headlights match. So many ideas now lol.
This video was absolutely amazing and well executed and with awesome illustrations showing all the steps and techniques and supplies necessary for the project. Also you gave warnings of the dos and don’ts so that all the steps come out correctly without any issues. It is also quite obvious on a project like this especially if it is your first time at trying something like this that you should take your time and always double check before trimming or cutting or drilling holes make sure by double checking as you did so that you have a good outcome with the end product. Absolutely an incredible well thought out and executed video one of the best I have seen on UA-cam.
Everything looks so damn well made to a point I thought you made the new covers not sanding them down and the best part was seeing how it turned this amazing from old nostalgic reflector looking covers into completely smooth transparent cover
I have to tell you that was an amazing video. Your design process was extremely well thought out and looked amazing. The materials you use to create the tail lights were really well done I, especially like the stainless steel bowls. One thing I would have liked you to cover is how you made the turn signals sequential or did I miss that part? I really like that you took your time and you were very methodical with each process. Well done now as far as your problem. If you have a problem then I have a problem. I have three Subaru Vortex XT and the only reason I don’t have more is because I don’t have a longer driveway. And I will concede that you don’t have a problem if we can agree that I don’t have a problem!
I love using that hvac ducting tape whenever possible 😂 lights turned out awesome! I learned a quite a few things that i look forward to using down the road. Thanks for sharing such a great tutorial 🤙
I made the decision to open up, paint and frost my headlights on my Q50. I wasn't happy with the finished frosted look of the upper (eyebrow) DRL lens. The lens has a reeded texture that's acts as a light diffuser, so I sanded the lens by hand and made them smooth as a freshly shaven ball sack. All by hand. It's crazy what us car guys will do!
good day brother, those lights look great, I was browsing the internet and I came across your video, congratulations, good video, well explanatory and detailed, coincidentally I was looking for ideas since I am rebuilding a 2001 Nissan Tsuru or as we know it here in Panama Nissan Sentra b13 which He brought me some round sports style lights but they are a little damaged, I wanted to give them a personalized touch and reuse them since the ones that come with the factory car are a bit ugly😄 I think that using your example I could give a second life to those lights since they do sell them, but I haven't found one to my liking, only that in my case I will have to make a sequential circuit for each set since my car only flashes when activating the turn signals. Great video. I love seeing these 3000gt. Back in the day the GTO was my go to car for most races in Gran Turismo 1 and it holds a special place. Though I don’t ever see myself owning one.
That's sick!! 😊 I'm sure you get asked a lot where you got them? I wish I had more knowledge with wiring so I can make custom lights. Again, awesome job!

I racked my brain on what I could use to give it a little bit of depth and trim and could figure it out until one day I saw the little cut holders being used in a couch arm rest and it hit me as that could work for my taillights. So now I have cup holders in my taillights 😄

I don't have a 3kgt but I have been looking everywhere for a way to do something like this for my starion and this video helped so much! I appreciate you taking the time to make this!!! Where did you get the 5mm LED's?
The wiring is a hand made controller. I'm working on one that people can get online and program. As for the brakes and turns. The turn signals have priority over the brakes. For example if the left signal was on the right brake would be lit when pressed and the left signal would keep sequence. Once signal goes off it acts as a brake again.
are these kind of mods road legal? I know for sure that in Europe this ones would not be considered legal but I have no idea anywhere else in the world. in any case, AMAZING job, they look amazing!
I thick it would look good and realy catch your eye if the three Xs would rotate when you hit the brake. Fill the centres with LEDs and use a light chaser to rotate the X.
It's a hand built controller using relays and controlled timers. I am working on a new controller that uses something people can buy online and download programs
I got paint stripper on and ruined my tail lights, so I took a chance, and cleaned it up with a beltsander and water (to cool the sanding) They came out remarkably well, considering how they looked with the paint stripper on them
I just wanted to say. I came across this video randomly. But coincidentally I own a Dodge Stealth TT. Sadly it spun a rod bearing shortly after I got it on the road and disassembly showed a shot transfer case coupler as well. I'm still planning to re-build it as the body is practically rust free. But this video made my chest hurt.
You definitely need to rebuild it. Could always throw in some more power while you are at it. rvengeperformance.com is a good place to get your transfer case rebuilt. Best of luck getting your car back on the road. Also what year Stealth?
I can do all the work myself no problem. Mostly I just haven't had the time. But I'm adding an extension to my shop this fall so I can work on it over the winter. I've also bean a bit torn as to what I should do to it. Fixing it would take a new output shaft at $1000, and re-building the engine for another $1500+ with re-grinding the crank and replacing the conrod. At that point it starts to make more sens to go to something I could abuse and blow up without consequences. So you'll likely not like this but I'm considering converting it to RWD with a CD09 transmission (T56's are stupid expensive here, and the CD09 can take nearly as much power). And maybe a vortec 4200? or a v8 such as a VK56, maybe an LS, but that feels a bit too boring (and it's already bean done in a 3000gt). Oh and it's a '93 but 6 speed swapped.
Just so you know, at least here in the US, a red reflector in required somewhere in the rear of the vehicle. I learned this way back in the day when cops started pulling people when those ugly frosted Euro taillights were a thing. I doubt that it is enforced anymore and It's something I'd do knowing the law.
It was just your standard 5mm pin diode LEDs www.amazon.com/100pcs-Ultra-Bright-Light-Emitting/dp/B01GDO9OZ8/ref=sr_1_20?crid=35RNDEV4BBFJD&keywords=5mm%2Bled%2Bred&qid=1683767398&sprefix=5mm%2Bled%2Bred%2Caps%2C104&sr=8-20&th=1

You would have to check with your local laws. In the US some states it's legal and other it isn't.
I thick it would look good and realy catch your eye if the three Xs would rotate when you hit the brake. Fill the centres with LEDs and use a light chaser to rotate the X.
nice lineup dude i got a red 92
Omg these look nice.
How did you wire them up???
It's a hand built controller using relays and controlled timers. I am working on a new controller that uses something people can buy online and download programs
Nice lights. But in Europe lots of tuning stuff is not always street legal. The cops had me several times in the past. And checking out my car i had
I got paint stripper on and ruined my tail lights, so I took a chance, and cleaned it up with a beltsander and water (to cool the sanding) They came out remarkably well, considering how they looked with the paint stripper on them
Ooh that's no good. I had stripper get on my lights as well and man it does a number on them. Glad you got them buffed out.
Oh and it's a '93 but 6 speed swapped.
super clean
Watched this whole video to find out you don't even show how its wired. What's controlling the sequentials? 555 Timer?
How do you have the sequential turn signals override the brakes?
I'd love to know because I plan on doing something like this to my own car.
They look sooo good😍
Just so you know, at least here in the US, a red reflector in required somewhere in the rear of the vehicle. I learned this way back in the day when cops started pulling people when those ugly frosted Euro taillights were a thing. I doubt that it is enforced anymore and It's something I'd do knowing the law.
Looks cool what lights did you use for the brake lights? I didn't see a link
It was just your standard 5mm pin diode LEDs

Thats badass!
please make a video doing this on a mercedes 190e tailight
you have 3 of my dream cars
You going to get one?
@@illusiveinu one day i will, one day
What LEDs did u use for the cups?
Well done!
