@richardformisano7381 Hi and sorry to hear that they denied you! i am 57 and i just file a week ago. i did the phone interview with SSA and hired an attorney 2 days later. Did you use an attorney? The reason i got an attorney is because i see that there are judges involved in this process. And the government has set a 25% max pay for the attorneys. That kinda said to me in an unwritten way that you need to get one to play ball. So i did. It is very disappointing that you have to go through judges and lawyers to get something you paid into your whole working life! And Thanks for sharing your story! All The Best!

Age is truly just one factor that could improve your chances. If you are old enough that could help you with your claim. Maybe it could help you win on a claim that you were not approved for because you were under 50. You just have to speak with an attorney and get their opinions on how likely you are to be approved. Also where you live may help a lot. Some places have ALJs that have a high denial rate. If you are lucky you will not have to see the ALJ but not all of them are so terrible.

What if someone overcomes their disability when they're 64, and then has to work for the remaining years while losing a lot of past credit for being on disability for a long time. It would seem to be devastating if that happens since you're monthly amount will be substantially diminished when you reach retirement age. A very cruel way to spend your life trying to get better and then to be penalized for getting better. Makes life most unpleasant

This requires a long answer I will do my best to answer but you can always call us, 865-566-0800.
One you should try to remain on disability if you can unless you condition substantially improves it’s hard to see a scenario where you will be FORCED to return to work. If you do return to work a lot of it will be how much your PIA (monthly income that affects benefit amount) is during that time. If it is more than it was prior to you getting on disability your benefit should remain the same or be higher. I hope this helps!!!

I don't get how it's never said that these "benefits" are actually the money people pay into Social Security for their retirement. Only difference is, they get it sooner due to their disability....?

Side effects can be really harsh. Sometimes they sound like they are worse than what they are supposed to treat. It is ironic since it only makes people feel worse.

I'm surprised young age range is all the way up to 49 instead of 39. Because 40 is when they start to discriminate and 40 isn't considered young people. Plus some women start going through perimenopause in their early 40s.

      Perimenopause isn't a disability qualifier😄
