I grew to really like Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, but he wasn't as good as Terrence Howard imo. Terrence felt like a legit experienced airforce pilot/colonel, a guy who respected the air, he also felt a legit best friend to RDJ's Tony Stark like they had history.. He had that respectful, honorable, serious militant aspect to him, but then had a cool, down to earth side... "next time baby" he had swag that would've made War Machine feel like he's ripped out of the comics, he felt like he grounded Tony... Don Cheadle just felt robotic, and bland by comparison, and he was just there as a voice of reason. Again, I really like Don Cheadle, but by comparison I wish they kept Terrence. I was excited to see him suit up after IM1, and when Don Cheadle did it, it just wasn't as thrilling as it should have been.
The re-casting of terrence howard and ed norton had a very big negative impact on the MCU movies for me, both always bothered me when watching films after

I wish Iron Man 2 was Iron man vs Hulk with Edward Norton with Red Hulk as the villain. That would have been a better setup to the avengers.
